Upsizing - evolution or the new trend?
frost replied to frost's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I keep noticing the new "selling my very small heavily loaded fast falling canopy to upsize ads all over the place. When I was in Perris a few years back, heard JC Coclasure say that he was jumping a 120 now to get longer swoops. I think I see that trend followed at my local DZ too. Not saying good or bad, trying to be like the big boys or what... just curious if anyone else has noted it. SoFPiDaRF - School of Fast Progress in Downsizing and Radical Flying. Me and two of my skydiving buddies are going to DR in a couple of days. I see there is one DZ there - prices are 25-30 bucks per jump. gear rental - 25 bucks. Wondering if anyone has been there, jumped or at least saw their equipment. I dont plan on bringing my gear for 2 or 3 jumps (at those prices). Any other feedback? Thnanks SoFPiDaRF - School of Fast Progress in Downsizing and Radical Flying. Because nobody knows your skills better than you.

Need some info on this canopy. Where it was designed, where it's made (USA, China or Germany), best prices, reviews etc. Alternatives to that anopy? Like Classic may be? Also is it true that there were some issues with it and American team switched to a different canopy? Which one? Help is much appreciated. Please if possible email replies to sixfrost@yahoo.com THANKS! Mike

----------------------- Poster: FallDown Subject: Re: BASE jumping a wingsuit zennie i virtually garantee someone will land a wingsuit with in my life time. i know that jari and adrian are both working on the idea and i believe that the latest version of the birdman suit, the skyflyer has been tracked with a vertical speed of just 18mph, which is BLOODY slow. i also heard about a month back that apparently the skyflyer and the VX46 have been flown side by side for a short period, only a few seconds but it was apparently a totally controlled thing. Now thats would make for some awesome footage! jeff ------------------- Yes, they were able to slow down to 18mph vertical for a short period of time, true. But they were also tracking at speeds of 100-120 mph horizontally. One can certainly land in a wing suit w/out opening a chute, but he will just as certainly will be dead. But it would be fun bouncing like a pebble on the water.

>>One of my mates did a 50 jump freefly coach package with them. He absolutely raved about the DZ and the freefly coaches (he got coached by Rat as well)>> WHo's yer bud, scream? Is it Andreas? Or Steve may be?

>> Why did they steal the word Gay anyway? Straight people used to be happy and gay. Now you can only Be Happy! >> You can still be gay. Just do it on yer own time and dont tell anyone.

>>There are gay skydivers. I've jumped with a couple of male ones. Not only are they great fun to jump with, they're even more fun to guy watch with! >> And when the day is over you can swap recepie secrets, too!! Fabulous!

Yeah, I loved it! It was funny as hell. "DONT GO -- GO ON", that was priceless. The pilot in that one was the funniest part

Pleasure to make your acquaintance. I did some time in 82nd at 307th Eng and 1/504th. Right on, man

Hehe, I think I heard that one. He probably got a lot of crap, eh? Hey guess what was the name of the CSM of JFKSWCS? CSM Rambo! How many jokes did he get I wonder. Hey, where were you there?
-
And may I say it is a good one indeed, lol

The "deuce" is at it again. I wonder, why this was reported at all. Was it because it was a high publicity international excersize? I served in the 82nd and dont recall reading many articles about paratroopers getting hurt. It happens on a daily basis, practically on every jump. 800 feet, static line round T-10C's, 35-100 pounds of extra equipment, new "cherries" in the air... Add darkness and fatique (night combat jumps take place between 11pm-3am) to the mix and someone is bound to get hurt. Reaching with your toes is a big no-no, but many new jumpers do it anyway. Fun fact: Did you know that to attend a military jumpmaster school all you need is 9 jumps?! To stay current you need to jump once every 3 (three) months. You are considered Senior Parachutist after 35 jumps and Master after 60 or 65. Here is "fun" story that really happened: A rigger with a "good" sense of humor packed a reserve and signed it "Mickey Mouse". A jumper reported this after performing a gear check before a jump. As result the jumps were scratched, thousands of good reserves had to be repacked. I guess he (rigger) meant to say: "If it doesnt work, try and try again!"

Well, actually I wasnt talking about the 5 minute free fall time. If you consider that there was 5 of them then one can strech it and say it was OK. It was great skydiving cinematography though, no doubt. I was talking about jumping from 4K without a rig and catching the other guy, talking in free fall etc. "Pull! No, you pull! No, You first!" Gimme a break! Haha! That was a good comedy sketch that made me laugh.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What is the deal???? Is there a problem with being a Newbie?? It is sorta like getting your A license I guess...you're officially a skydiver be it A or D so I would think you are part of the group be you a Newbie or an addict. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The DZ.com status is really not a reflection of your skydiving skills/time in sport/license etc. You'll see newbies with C and D licenses and Enthusiasts and Old Hands with just 3 tandems. I guess it's just one big happy family talking about toothpaste, lol!

OK, I guess many of you folks have jumped more then just your home DZ. I wanna know which ones you think are the most beautiful to jump? So far my personal favorites are Sebastian and Eloy.
-
Just saw it again on cable. OK, we all know how realistic the skydiving scenes were in that movie. However, the location was beautiful. I did some research and it seems to be Lake Powel, UT. Anyone been to or going to Skyventure Tunnel in FL? There is a pic from the movie across the door to the wind chamber. When I was there it seemed it had a different name for that lake on it. Does anyone know for sure where the 5-way footage was shot? I know some of the other footage was filmed at the Ranch (my home DZ) and the TM was also from here. The plane is a King Air that is now in Perris, I think.
