I guess it depends on what you want from it.... I bought one of those recently, the NTSC version. I haven't used it for skydiving (yet), as my 2KC & PC105 do a fine job on their own, but I used it while snowboarding yesterday and while rock-climbing a week or two ago. Look around for price, I payed $188 USD or so... it shipped with a 4.3mm lens and that's a fairly wide angle - looks wider than a 0.3 on my PC105. lowlight sensitivity is impressive... cheers soon to be gone

I'm going to venture to say that on a terminal BASE jump it would behave much the same as on a terminal skydive, so you could always just do some skydives with one to find out. You could do balloon jumps too if you're interested in what it does sub-terminal. but that's just this low-time skydiver's opinion.... soon to be gone

bullet cams: IR illumination and low light filming
whatever replied to whatever's topic in Photography and Video
anyone have any knowledge and/or experience regarding using a bullet cam with lowlight and IR sensitivity in low-light to complete dark situations? I have a Sony 21CWSHRX (with EXVIEW and HAD for the acronym junkies) and was wondering about the best way to illuminate the subject matter in IR for this purpose? Would a LED flashlight be the ideal thing if I just replaced the white LEDs with IR LEDs? Also, I'm using a PC105 camcorder (and will be with the bulletcam) - any hints on how to get max picture quality from the bulletcam with this setup? While I'm here: does the nightshot mode on my 105 do anything other that illuminate with IR light? thanks sam soon to be gone -
Buying the PC-105 is a pain in the A$$
whatever replied to Cornholio's topic in Photography and Video
man, that's cheap, especially for a Sony store... the one I went to here in Toronto wanted $1200 CAD and that's before the damn 15% sales tax! soon to be gone -

Green Truck with skydivers painted on side in Canada...
whatever replied to whatever's topic in The Bonfire
Hey Just wondering who I past this Saturday morning (going North on the 400) in a green truck that had one guy under a square and one guy under a round painted on the side in white? and I don't mean pick-up truck.... later soon to be gone -
Hi there. Just wondering if anyone knows if the S.A. BASE Association still exists in some form and if they do, if you could PM me some contact info, it would be much appreciated. I remember them having a website a year or two ago, but I cannot find it now.... thanks soon to be gone

I change it a lot, but right now it's from a Prodigy song. I like it because it's not what it seems to be. soon to be gone

When they finally build it, that thing's going to have some very 'interesting' airflow around it.... considering you're using the 7km diameter glass surface to heat the air under it and 'channel' the flow of hot air up the central tunnel, where the airflow drives some fans/turbines and then finally this hot air comes out the top of the tunnel, right where your highest exit would be.... now you have hot air from above the glass surface too and then something interesting is bound to happen outside the edge of the glass area too due to the colder surface surrounding the whole structure.... I thought someone was looking at building one of these in the desert in South Africa some time ago. I wonder what the airflow up that central tunnel will be like.... with any luck it would be enough to blow a jumper upwards if they're under some sort of ZP round that's almost the size of the tunnel.... soon to be gone

the trains? screw the trains... they have to be practically the worst way ever to get around your part of the UK and especially London get a motorbike... I did and it was cheaper, faster and about ten million times more enjoyable than the trains. for comparison, from where I lived to your home DZ (which used to be mine too): Billericay/Brentwood to Headcorn by train: 2:45 to 3:30 and it'd cost me at leat 11 squids either way... same journey by Kawasaki: 45 to 60 minutes and it'd cost me under 3 pounds for the petrol... and it was a very similar situation when I went to visit my brother in SW15 like I said, screw the trains, get a bike, the weather in England allows you to motorbike all year round... cheers sam soon to be gone

*that's* the one my colleague (when I was living in the UK) told me when he found out I skydive! hilarious, especially when told by someone who can do a proper Irish accent! soon to be gone

safe operating temperatures for Sony camcorders
whatever replied to whatever's topic in Photography and Video
hi there my PC 105 and 2KComposites FF2 will be ready to go in the next few weeks and since I'm in Canada, my question is: what is the safe temperature range to jump this set-up in? (it's pretty cold here right now, between -6 and -22 degrees Celsius on the ground) also, I believe I'll have a little space around the camera in the box, will insulating it with something like neoprene (or using one of the camera condoms) make a big difference? also, since I go back to South Africa every once in a while, what is maximum safe operating temperature? (one of the DZ's I go to there regularly gets 40+ degrees Celsius in the summer) thanks sam soon to be gone
