only if I do my 100th while there.... soon to be gone

that's Canada in the winter for you, and it's not even properly winter yet! If you thought that story was a good deterrent to jumping when it's cold, maybe I should mention the one a few weeks earlier, when we show up at one of our favourite towers and the WHOLE thing is covered in a 1/4" of ice.... The climb was WAY scarier than the 240ft jump! soon to be gone

Your Skydiving Goals for 2005?
whatever replied to Dumpster's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
hey there, I'm not picking on you specifically, I just noticed quite a few people posted that they wanted to start BASE jumping in 2005... anyone considering trying even one BASE jump should have a look at the videoclips in this thread and read the thread too: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1379574#1379574 I started BASE jumping with 243 skydives (30 with a 252 Parafoil) and let me tell you that I now realise how ill-prepared I was at that point... (500 would be a sensible number) don't do what I did, even though I got away with it, do some more skydives first, learn to fly a big F111 7 Cell and learn to land it VERY accurately in varying wind conditions... BASE isn't going away and rushing into it only gets you to the scene of the accident sooner. now that I've said that, my goals for 2005 are: -learn to flock well in my S3 -do a 3 minute flight in my S3 (I can do 2:30) -get a 135 sq ft canopy -get canopy coaching -get my riggers ticket -get an instructors rating -start doing video for slots -reach 500 skydives (I'm on 414 now) -reach 200 BASE jumps (I'm on 87 now) hope you all reach your goals SAFELY (even if that means some won't happen in 2005) soon to be gone -
hey hey getting pretty tired of all the mud slinging and bitching happening here lately... so I thought I'd try and start a fun thread where we can share some BASE experiences that makes us smile, or think, or cringe....

Flockers in Eloy on Christmas day - balloon time!
whatever replied to whatever's topic in Wing Suit Flying
thanks for the heads up, but I kinda assumed that would be the situation anyway I'm not trying to get an 8 way flock out the balloon at once, rather just have the whole load filled with wingsuiters. and while we're on that, where are the wingsuiters that will be in Eloy on the 25th? soon to be gone -
no problem! always a pleasure to be able to help a fellow birdperson out us nylon-crack addicts have to stand together... soon to be gone

OK, let me see if I have this straight: the hypothesis is (supported by some observations apparently) that smaller canopies inflate quicker. this makes total sense from a purely applied mathematics point of view, since: -surface area is a 2nd order function of linear size -volume is 3rd order function of linear size SO, the bigger the canopy, the smaller the surface area to volume ratio, and since all the canopies' volume has to be filled through the surface areas of it's openings, it's easy to see why a smaller canopy, assuming an exactly scaled down version of the larger design, will inflate quicker cheers sam soon to be gone

[ZegeunerLeben] I vote for that too. and big thank you to Tom, not only for the time spent here and on BLiNC, but also the many other ways he gives to BASE thanks Tom soon to be gone

read it liked it, as I have all of Hunter S's stuff, since the time I was handed a copy of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - which I read in one sitting, couldn't put it down - too funny! that was the 1st Hunter S book I read and I believe I've read just about everything he's written that I could get my hands on. he's my favourite author, which is weird to some, as I don't do any drugs... soon to be gone

doh! typo. I meant to type 119, it's not like I'm quite capable of exceeding 199 secs from 14 500 ft in my S3 yet.... thanks for the catch soon to be gone

3rd Annual Dropzone.com Skydive Arizona Holiday Boogie

yo Nick you forgot the X6 - alot like the S6, just not geared toward skiing. I have an X6, it logs freefall data, the smallest intervals it will log are 2 seconds, so it's OK for my wingsuit flights as a secondary data logger, as it does not time out at 199sec like my ProTrack does. I don't generally use it as a primary alti, the refresh and sample rate on most Suuntos are to slow for my liking for that. It supposed to be 3ft accurate on altitude, which comes in handy for me. don't bother getting any of the -HRM models, the heart rate monitors on these things are really primitive and WILL pick up all kinds of radio waves and think they're from the HRM transmitter. And since your in my area, check EuropeBound as well as the MEC, each have better prices than teh other on varied models. my 2 cents cya sam soon to be gone

way to go, guy... only a 103 jumps and you're already the most annoying poster on dropzone.com by far and by the way, you might want to tone down the SHOUTING, it's bad netiquette soon to be gone

no reason not to do that from a plane, except that you do not need to, as you should have plenty of altitude, so why bother? in my limited experience (57 wingsuit jumps), pulling in full flight in my S3 has a couple of drawbacks: -you will swing forward rather impressively and be looking at the sky on deployment, followed by that swing back... -you are way more susceptible to linetwists from any assymetry before during and after pull.... -the openings might feel harder I generally pull in full flight now, as I do not find the openings particularly hard (personal opinion varies), and I have done this with my ZP155, a Spectre135 and my BlackJack260 (large mesh slider and on a skydive), I like the fact that I get a flying canopy in 200-250 feet this way and I like consistency, so I pull this way on skydives because one day in the future I might BASE my wingsuit and I'd like to be familiar with this kind of deployment. If you're not planning to BASE jump a wingsuit one day, I don't think it's worth it to be pulling in full flight. my 2 cents. soon to be gone

You need a BASE specific canopy for BASE jumps, it's that simple. get hold of the Bridge Day 2003 DVD ( www.bridgeday.info if you don't know anyone who has a copy) watch that a few times (all 6 hours) and you'll see why you want a BASE specific canopy over anything that skydiving has to offer... edited to add clicky, and while you are at it, get the 'Official Bridge Day Safety and Malfunctions' video - it's really worth it and will give you an idea of what can and does happen, even off a relatively easy object. soon to be gone
-
now that sounds interesting! I'd really like to see that canopy, but with the added features of airlocks (so it will stay inflated and hopefully somewhat pressurized while flying backwards) and an airfoil section that's designed to fly backwards fairly well, while on the rear risers with the brakes stowed..... soon to be gone

hey LULUfox Imagine seeing you on here! Nice post, sister. I hope the man sees or hears about this post, I know all our crew feel that way about him, even though we seem to have been doing some things lately that would make it hard for him to see how much we respect him, respect and believe in his ethics and value him as a friend. As far as I'm concerned he's the prime contender for the title of this thread, if there was only one.... later, cobra soon to be gone

hi see here for where I bought mine, if you're even a little adept at sticking a few components together, this is the best way to go: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1046495;search_string=bullet%20camera;#1046495 I'm very happy with the quality, very impressed with the lowlight sensitivity. soon to be gone
