Yeah, if it wasn't for all the great teams and support there, the meet wouldn't have happened. Congratulations to everyone who competed, especially if you had to endure less than ideal sleeping conditions the night prior. We're looking forward to a grand time at CSS! In the words of Focker Casey, "It's ON!" And was that Ryan who hadn't jumped at another DZ before? Very cool, I'm having all sorts oftrouble trying to stay head down. Same here, which is why I was so impressed with his stability on his first two attempts. I think I need to lose the camera helmet while I'm still learning. We were at Chester for the CaSL Meet #2, and the experience is one I'll treasure for a good long while. The staff were all courteous and helpful, the facilities were excellent and the landing area was enormous. They've got camp sites available, as well as RV hookups (call ahead). We truly enjoyed our brief stay at Skydive Carolina. It's just too bad it's so far away, or we'd visit more often. Thanks to the staff and jumpers of Skydive Carolina for a wonderful visit! Good to hear from you, Kev. Maybe by the time you get back, I'll have my Firebird (and actually know how to fly it) so we can get in some BM jumps together. Stay safe and know that you're in everyone's thoughts. Thanks for doing your part, my friend. You, my dear, are absolutely adorable! We love seeing you at these events, and while the weather wasn't quite the best all day long, at least it didn't drive you and the rest of the beautiful and talented Foxes away from the meet. We got to see and hang out with you the whole day, so that was a bonus.

This past weekend was quite an interesting and ulitmately rewarding experience for myself and team "Luckiest Guy at Raeford". It started out with Friday night's Armageddon display, with lightning bolts striking all around the DZ, accompanied by thunder loud and strong enough to rock cars and trailers alike. After a bit of a slow start Saturday morning due to lingering weather, the competitors set out to have fun and give their respective videographers something to hand off to the judges for later bragging rights. I mean, you can make fun jumps at any DZ on any given weekend. This was for second round accolades. First of all, I would like to thank the staff and regular up-jumpers for their hospitality and tolerance of our invasion of their demesne. The DZ itself, including the facilities, was immaculate, the landing area huge and there was no shortage of offers of help to competitors. Thank you very much to all the staff at Skydive Carolina. Rookie class was a close race, as the winnners of the previous meet, The Fast Fockers, went toe to toe with Luckiest Guy and Team Pffffft. Everyone seemed to be feeling the effects of the previous night's storm, but none more so than the Fockers, since they had been sleeping in tents during the torrential downpour that ensued that evening. From what I understand, everything they brought with them was completely soaked, with the expection of their skydiving gear. However, they shrugged off their frustrating night of no sleep and stepped up to the plate with the rest of us. Thanks for giving us the kind of competition we need. We enjoy jumping with you guys. Team Pfffft (Raeford) took third place, Fast Fockers took Second and Luckiest Guy took first place in the rookie class. No more video busts for Luckeist Guy, I promise. In the Intermediate class, The Crazy Ivans (CSS) took third, the lovely ladies of Fox Force Four took second and Raeford Fury took first place. Carolina Ice were the Meet Champions, while Jake Conrad won the best video award. Congratulations to all the competitors and their respective videographers! We enjoy spending time getting to know all of you and learning from each meet with all of you. We'll certainly miss Keith and Tater as they move to Florida soon, but hopefully we'll see them again in the near future. The next meet promises to bring some spirited competition in the rookie class, and we can't wait to laugh and jump with all of you again soon. Again, thank you to all of the staff, competitors, regular up-jumpers and judges for a wonderful experience at Skydive Carolina. See you all soon! I figured it wouldn't be able to live up to the expecations the book may or may not have set for people. I enjoyed the book as a work of fun and fiction, but the theatre of the mind is a place that few filmmakers can adequately capture. Yeah, I've noticed that I have a tendency to carve when I square up for a dock. That's something I need to rectify before I proceed further. Thanks for the tips, Chris. Spot-on as always. Patience is a virtue...and I'm far from being virtuous. I'm not impatient (much) over my suit delivery, I'm just trying to narrow down the range of time estimates I've gotten here. Yeah, I was hoping to have the suit before any of my scheduled trips towards the end of summer, but if I don't get it by then I'll survive. Quick question for my own personal edification: even with a good, solid head-up position, does there still need to be equal and opposite compensation for a dock with your hand? I wouldn't entirely discount the original hypothesis regarding an aware bird. I was an apprentice falconer for about two years, and I have never been more amazed than by how well those birds can see just about everything going on around them. I had a red-tailed hawk nail a small rabbit that was about two feet away from me on the other side of a rock about the size of my head, and the hawk had been no less than 600 yards away on a low branch of a tree that put me between it and the hawk. They are fairly observant, these raptors, as it tends to go hand in hand with whether or not they get to eat on any given day. Raptors may go on soar and ride thermals, but I've seen several ride the same thermal at different altitudes and not clash. It's a bit of a stretch to think that an animal that relies heavily on its vision would not have seen the big flying body in its general vicinity. I'd post something supportive and nurturing, but Clay pretty much covered it...plus, I like Steve's idea quite a bit as well. It was great meeting you too, Darien! Sorry things were a bit chaotic, but hopefully we'll be able to chat more the next time you're at Raeford, which I hope will be soon. And Arvel, no worries on that paperwork. I know you had to get Autumn going, so I figured I'd see you out there again in the very near future. Feel free to send me that stuff here and I'll make sure it gets seen. Excellent pictures, Arvel. I'm really impressed with how well Autumn was flying. Her transitions were great, and she wasn't backsliding in her sit at all. Based on what I've read about it, that movie was based on a true story about a family in the mid 1800s that was being terrorized by a "presence". I know what you mean. Even "Stay" was disconcertingly predictable on the major story points. I was disappointed to see that my perceptions of what was REALLY transpiring in that movie were correct in the end. I'm hoping Aronofsky's "The Fountain" will bring back a sense of wonder and amazement for me with regard to movies. That's pretty darn cool of you to take care of that Cardinal. I had a formula for food that I used when I raised a magpie that had fallen out of a nest near my house in WA, and it sure made the little guy grow FAST. It was a blended mixture of oatmeal, hard-boiled egg, beef-heart and milk. I mixed it in a blender until it had the consistency of wet paste, and then I would use a pair of tweezers to feed it globs of the stuff. This was only until he was old enough for me to start buying grubs and worms to place under leaves and such. Then I would put him on the ground and flick the leaves with my finger to expose the grubs so he could see how to find food. I had to feed the grubs to him a few times before he understood that he could find and eat the bugs himsef. Good luck on raising the little critter. Remember, you're not raising him/her to be part of YOUR species, you're raising it to be a part IT'S OWN species. I have been looking forward to "American Haunting" for a long while, but I'll probably have to see it by myself since Cora doesn't like scary movies. As for "Silent Hill", I read some reviews from hard-core movie fans and the reactions were mixed. The whole "portal to another dimension" thing was lost on some, and the correlation between the evil girl and the adopted girl was a bit convoluted and difficult to follow. That's only what I gathered from reading the reviews. I still want to see both movies, however. I'll probably enjoy SH more now that I've had my expectations lowered by those reviews.
