It affected me by proxy: one of my more talkative co-workers forgot to set his clock back and showed up in the quiet wee hours when I get most of my catching up done. He proceeded to tell me anything and everything he was reading on the Internet at that exact moment, ensuring I would get nothing done until he began attacking his own workload. Shutting the door to my office seems a bit rude, but I'm leaning in that direction more and more here. It seems like they're wussing out on maintaining the story arcs that require some maintenance. The jungle monster, for instance. I'm not satisfied with the smoke critter abduction device. But I think it was becoming more trouble than it was worth to the crew to keep that one alive. Same goes for characters who have complications like asthma or "gifts" that are going to take a while to explain without being too terribly cheesy about it. It's almost as if the third season is the beginning of the cop-out. I still love the show, but things are being tidied up in a very slipshod manner, in my estimation. Didn't Ben(ry) say something along the lines of "I've lived on this island my whole life"? As in, maybe he was born there to the people who DID start it? I mean, there's a whole lot of research project across both(!) islands for the amount of people in the "Others" camp. In perusing the season 2 DVDs, did you see the Dharma logo on the shark's tail in the episode where Michael and James (Sawyer) are floating back on the remains of their raft? And isn't Jack being held captive in an old aquarium? As an aside, I take it that we've dispensed with the whole "monster in the jungle" thing with the revelation of the smoke-based "security system"? That was resolution for that question like the word "magic" was when you asked your parents how certain things worked as a kid. I'm sorry to say that from my limited experience, this is more prevalent than some of us would like to believe. Every time I travel, I'm doing my best to blend into the background and absorb as much of the culture I'm visiting as possible, generally speaking only when absolutely necessary and at reasonable volume levels. I watched a Rotunda The Hun American woman berate an adorable Irish woman at the Book of Kells museum because the lady couldn't be bothered to remember where her hotel was or how to get back there. I was appalled. I've seen it in every country I've visited and it never fails to make me cringe. I almost want to tell them myself to shut the hell up and go back home. Don't get me wrong, the curse on my balls was formidable, but the moment I registered, the curse became as belly-button lint in the shower. Hmm, I'm sure we can scare up another critter to surf. Another female critter, preferably, to even things out a bit. As I mentioned, I'd be willing to loan my camera set-up to an appropriately skilled freeflyer. Heck, I'll even clean my tongue-thingy. Oh man, this is going to rock! I forgot that Kitty was going. Since Clint isn't working this one, we should be able to get a jump or two out of him. Maybe a hybrid with The Turtle and The Duck as the base and The Kitty as the hanger. Or a totem pole with The Kitty on top. If Iwan was going to be there we could get great video. As it is, I suppose I could lend my camera setup to some equally pumpkin-headed, yet appropriately skilled, freeflyer.
