So now your list would read 1 - More and Better 2 - More or Better 3 - More = Better 4 - More and Butter I think we're getting closer to a solution :) Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

You agree with Lefty; every economist on the planet agrees with me. Then there's the old - "When it affects you, it's a return to sanity. When it affects me, it's a crisis." I stand by my assessment. You all can run around and cry about a "crisis". I see this as an opportunity for many people to finally get the house they've been wanting. If they're dumb and get themselves locked into a loan they can't make payments on, whose fault is that? Let's run down the checklist to see: a) Government's: No b) Mine: No c) The bank's: No d) Their own: YES! Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

Just in case this post isn't a joke, I'll respond. The government has a hand in the current "mortgage crisis" (why do they call it a crisis, anyway? This is a great time to buy a home). It lowered interest rates and got people who were on the fence to purchase a home. It also encouraged the banks to loan them money even if their credit was not "prime". So there is regulation (if indirectly) in the housing market already through the Fed. About the food, well, the government seems to be failing in your opinion. So you want more government to fix the problem? Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

My Recent Fox News and CNN Appearances (Guns on College Campuses)
Lefty replied to Douva's topic in Speakers Corner
I refer you back to Douva's video for the answers to those questions. Indeed? Well, you run along and figure out the way to eliminate crime itself. I'm going skiing right now. Exaggeration, in other words. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin -

See, that's exactly what I was talking about. Hyperbole. No one is saying that, yet you use it in your argument. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin -

I was referring to the "arm them all" part. Your side of the argument isn't exactly supported by common sense, so I'd consider for a while before playing that card. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin -

Why do you have to rely on hyperbole to support your argument? It doesn't work, fyi. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin -

I did you a favor by missing your point the first time. I'll play your game for now, though. "You people think nothing of picking up a gun and shooting anyone because [insert you favorite reason here]." Here's the reason I'll insert: "CanuckInUSA is about to get shot by a crazed criminal with a handgun". Now, what about that reason is uncaring, selfish, or detrimental to society? You say crime is part of the real world, but you also seem to live in your own world where crime won't happen to you. If you get into a situation like one of these school shootings, I'd bet my next paycheck you'd think the good guys with guns could not get on the scene fast enough. Your analysis of the amount people care about each other is ridiculous. People with concealed carry permits protect others as well as themselves, merely through the presence of a gun in responsible hands. Now, as far as "caring" about a criminal with violent intent getting shot...well, I'll be sure to send violent criminals I meet to you if they need a hug. Possibly, but not necessarily. Liberty itself can be its own dichotomy. A free market implies property rights and freedom from government intervention in the market. Those things, however, do not imply freedom of opportunity or a level playing field. Many believe the latter two characteristics are more important to ensure the blessings of liberty than are the former two characteristics. Others have the opposite opinion. Personally, I believe that in order to "ensure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity," freedom of opportunity must be preserved. That cannot always be done in a free market. I don't think anyone is arguing that equal opportunity is not a good thing. Equality of opportunity, however, does not mean equality of results. That is a big sticking point between the left, the right, and us libertarians in the middle. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

I often wonder about that. The interpretation of religious text. I don’t get why there are always people who take the Justice, forgiveness, and generlly good things, and other focus on Hate hate hate fear fear fear. It happens in every religion. Because it gives the religious leaders power and influence. That's honestly the only reason I can think of. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

This is a barbaric story. But people on this side of the world really need to keep their opinions in check (not said in reference to anything specific Darius said) because I think it is equally barbaric the way mass shootings seems to occur almost on a monthly basis here. And it is not just school shootings. There is no shortage of domestic violence on this side of the world where one spouse (usually the husband but sometimes the wife) kills the other spouse and kills their children. No I am sorry we are nothing more than hypocrites to be calling certain nations barbaric when similar crap is happening on this side of the world. Pfft. First of all, I denounce violent crimes on this side of the world, too. Second, who said anything about calling nations barbaric? I'm calling the interpretation of Islam that seems to encourage and even institutionalize behavior like this stoning crap barbaric. Sounds like Bush is willing to try. If he wants to frame it as a blessing, well, I guess it's to be expected. As long as the embargo gets lifted, I can look past semantics. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

Although, to be fair, maybe she was raped. Or maybe she was seen in public with a man who was not related to her. Which Branch of Federal Government Passes the Budget?
Lefty replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
The President recently PROPOSED and sent to Congress his 2009 budget. It has a HUGE deficit. Are you trying to claim that the President has nothing to do with deficits? And who was in charge of Congress during the years when the deficit set records? Pretty lame stuff, counselor. That's not at all what he is claiming and you know it. Bravo, man. Bravo. Keep it up! EDIT: Furthermore, they really should not have had your CNN opposing guest on the show. He was far too emotionally close to the argument, and thus didn't offer anything to the debate. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin -

Not if you were taught to proofread your own material before turning it in for a grade. This is not a term paper, so who gives a fuck other than people w/o an argument. The point of my assertion was that lawrocket, a guy who, like me, makes plenty of errors, but he decides to cell me on em. Again, who gives a fuck if wto (intentional) letters are flipped or one is mising (intentional)? Please don't make it a habit to write "(intentional)" after all of your mistakes. Your posts will be twice as long. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin -
