  1. Hi Arno. Welcome to CF! I saw Nico's report of your first jump on Futurenet. Good stuff. Also nice seeing CF above Nylstroom again with those particular canopies. Keep on going for it & say "hi" to my friends at Skydive Xtreme. Cheers Andre le Roux
  2. Hi Tonto Not much CRW going on here at all. Put out a post to that effect a while ago and got a reply from a Brit serviceman based in Iraq! I haven't touched another canopy in midair since I came to the Middle East. Sucks. Forced to waste all that air on RW. Cheers A
  3. Agree with Tonto. Happens pretty often. More common with non-CRW canopies. Bottom guy flares the canopy open. Hi Tonto: happened quite a bit when we used to jump together! Cheers Andre
  4. Reading through this forum for the first time: certainly brings back memories. Jumped a Strato Star a few times in the late 70s at a DZ 5000' above sea level. Didn't land particularly well, but better than my regular canopy: a Strato Flyer. Now who remembers that horrible parachute? My first one bought by my Dad for my 21st. Also from Para-Flite, it was billed as an "RW parachute" as it packed smaller. Packed smaller as it was a 160 sq ft 5-cell monster. At my high DZ, it was the worst thing to jump. I later sold it and bought a GQ Security Unit. MUCH nicer! Cheers Andre
  5. You've probably got your hands quite full over there currently! Do you get to do any jumps there?
  6. Hi Alan Looked through your posts after reading your review of Skydive Xtreme (my home DZ). Pity about your rough experience there. I've had some really good times there and rate the DZ highly. I've recently relocated to Saudi and have jumped at UAQ a few times. Also a nice DZ, but a bit quiet now in summer. Are you still in Kuwait? How did you find UAQ? Cheers Andre le Roux
  7. Any CReWDogs out here? I've just been posted to Saudi Arabia from South Africa. While the move has forced me to increase my freefall time, I'm lusting after a CRW jump or many. I get to Dubai quite often and jump at UAQ. Cheers Andre
  8. Hi there. Interesting thread. I'm an old CReW jumper and damaged my knees with a combination of: 5000ft DZs, experimental CReW parachutes and landing rounds as a student many years ago. I find that, post-trauma, a light hinged knee brace is the best. Difficult to wear under jeans, better with some kind of stretch material. Keep on jumping!

    Vortex

Just bought my second Vortex 2 (I bought one in 1998 and a Vortex 1 in 1996). I've always been impressed with Parachute Systems' (previously Chute Shop) products. This latest has some great new features such as full riser covers. It's build quality is the best so far and fit perfectly first time.
  10. I've bought containers and canopies from Chute Shop for many years. I currently have a Vortex 2 for my CRW parachute and a Vortex for my RW parachute. They are both of excellent quality, comfort and durability. Chris and Mari Dales have a relatively small operation and perhaps sometimes slip up on some customer issues. This is more than made up for in the innovation evident in all their designs as well as the qualities I've mentioned above. I would certainly recommend the purchase. I suggest you order the rig through Icarus, an excellent local dealership, and let Manny chase up Chute Shop's production on your behalf. Details on www.icarus.co.za. Cheers Andre le Roux

    Skydive Xtreme

My team has jumped at many DZs in SA. This is the only one that can (and is willing to) give us six loads before 11h00 daily. The club is very geared to its members and vistors. Nice to find a place that puts its customers first! Saturday night parties are awesome.
