Texel Freefly Extravaganza ~ 19th - 21st August 2005 On Friday the 19th August 2005 we will be flying from Old Buckenham, Norfolk in Cessena Caravans accross to the beautiful island of Texel in Holland and arriving like VIP's by jumping in to the DZ. Here's what Caz sent to us on the group: Hi there guys This is a quick note to let you all know that the next drinks evening will be on the 28th July. However, we have decided to change venue this month to give somewhere else a trial run, and then we'll hold a vote to see whether people would prefer to stay at the new place or to go back to the Montagu Pyke. Alex Vrettos (who is a member of this group) has kindly offererd us a venue just around the corner from the MP. He is one of the managers from the Curzon Cinema in Soho and they have a bar there that sits 250-300 people which is obviously more than enough for our needs. The cinema is on Shaftesbury Avenue and here is a little map showing the location: http://www.curzoncinemas.com/curzonsoho.htm You will just need to mention at the door that you're with the London Skydivers and they'll let you through to the bar area. There will be a projector there, so we can bring our own dvds along to play if we so wish, and there is also a cafe on the floor above if anyone feels like cheating and eating! Anyway, I'll send out another notice nearer the time as usual, but in the mean time if you know anyone who usually comes along who doesn't use this group please can you let them know of the change of venue. Well, The 2012 Olympics are being held in London, A few people have mentioned getting Skydiving as part of the Olympics, i'm just curious as to what people think!? The Criteria is this: Acceptance of a sport into the Olympic Games Program For a sport to be included in the Olympic Games, the sport must first be recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) under the conditions that it has an International Federation (IF), and that this Federation has held a World Championship competition. The sport may then be included initially as a demonstration sport, and the sport's International Federation may make an application to the IOC for consideration as an Olympic Sport. This application process must take place a minimum of six years before a scheduled Olympic Games. In Atlanta, only one new sport was added to the program - women's softball, however, there were three new disciplines introduced - women's soccer, mountain bike racing and beach volleyball. Heathrow had a terminal evacuated earlier, Both are still on full alert, Gatwick was crawling with Police earlier with the Helicopter overhead most of the day, the service tunnel under the south (not the A23, the one next to it) was closed, and the guy guarding one side even had to phone to get permission to let us through, and we were in a damn Fire Engine! I'm good, I'm a firefighter in West Sussex, i work right next to Gatwick Airport and we were on standby for that as there were fears that other transport would be targeted, we were also told that we were probably going to London and were getting ready to send 24 vehicles and over 100 personnel.
