Why do some people have more mal's than others
Zep replied to Zep's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm not a believer in luck, good or bad but I'd be interested to hear about the stuck toggle, an why it stuck. Gone fishing -
I'm going to agree with leg staps an pocket rockets, as I can see that uneven body inputs can make the flight erratic I'm going to disagree with not cuttingaway as years ago we lost some to the sea because they did'nt cutaway The ones who survived had cutaway, Gone fishing

Perth Autum 12500ft agl above 0º I think this is called door fear, Take a deep breath an relax, 90% of skydivers at onetime or another have had it. Secret to over coming door fear , You'll find it within yourself by relaxing, Gone fishing

Why do some people have more mal's than others
Zep replied to Zep's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
BINGO, I think we have a winner, I so totally agree. My last comment was in the style of irony. I said I was a trashy packer, this is true, but I know from experience where my lines are. and exactly how the canopy fall into shape. I think some mal's are caused at pull time, people get nervous rush the wave off an pull to energetically, thus not having a good body postion I prefer to to take it down a few hundred feet if I'm not in a good postion, Some mals are indeed caused by complacency, the lazy pull, which can cause pilotchute hesitation or eaisly put the bridle line round your arm. A worn out elastic on the pilotchute pouch an you've got a horseshoe an so the list goes on. I'll answer my own question, I haven't had a mal because at pull time I'm stable an relaxed and my container although old is well maintained. and by curtesy of the staff at Netheravon so many years ago, I took the time to learn exactly how a parachute works. Why do some people have more mal's than others
Zep replied to Zep's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Somebodys answer in another thread got me thinking, "Why are some people more prone to mal's than others." I am one of the trashiest packers around,All I do is a line check, give it a couple of shakes stuff the nose in the center bring the tail round, roll it up tight an S it straight into the bag I always double bite the stows changing any bands that look suspect. I've had twists, snivells an I've been slammed, I've had cutaways from CRW but I've never had a mal I can't help but wonder why. Gone fishing -
How often statistically does the parachute not open?
Zep replied to Addicks's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Guess I'm on borrowed time, My parachutes have always opened, some times it's been interesting an I've hade to shout at them but they've always listened, Then again I only buy Male parachutes Ahhhh, you're the reason I've have a dozen reserve rides. The laws of statistics must be obeyed. You know their is a whole new thread their, You can have my share of mal's, I wont even charge Gone fishing -
So that when you surface you don't come up under the canopy, cutting away the canopy will normally carry it a few meters from where you enter the water, of course their are exeptions, A fast flowing river, or strong surface currents in the sea. Gone fishing

If you are going to land in water weather it be planned or by accident, loosen legstraps, undo chest strap and cutaway when your feet touch the water and NOT before. As you start to come up you will be able to swin out of the container with relative ease, Swim away from the canopy to avoid the risk of getting tangled in the lines Wear a flotation device And remember your gear can be replaced, YOU can't Gone fishing

If Michellin can't come up with a tyre, thats their problem, I don't think a track should be changed just for them What is bad is the throwing of objects on to the track by angry spectators, Gone fishing

You mean you actually saw a patch of blue sky. Anyway as we all know British summer is the last Thursday in July I was at Empuria all day, left the kids in the swimming pool (supervised) They ended up like little red lobsters. An I jumped the Kingair all day Oh an two European freefly records where made today But I'll let the guys who did it explain ( I don't want to steal their glory ) Gone fishing

Do you jump with an AAD when not on bigways? Only on tandems currently. My original statment was typed too fast...it should read "For the most part people who say they suck it below that for saftey reasons are delusional." Sorry for the confusion. I'm curious to know why you don't use an AAD when not doing tandems, I was very opposed to the mandatory use of AAd's here in Spain firstly, because we did'nt get to vote on it Secondly, I really do belive it should be a personal choice for experienced skydivers Gone fishing

Just curious as to why you would think that? I don't know, Something to do with international treaties, Maybe I was thinking along the lines of if NATO has a standard round perhaps police forces do too, Gone fishing

>Are you suggesting that the police should use something less effective< No, For some reason I thought they used the standard hardball. Gone fishing

I was working in the police station the other day, an ran into a drinking buddy (who's a police officer) Anyway we where chatting an he showed me his new service pistol, Lama M-82 (well new for him) He took out the mag let me look at it, it was ok but a bit on the heavy side, What surprised me was the load, it was loaded with 9x21 JHP's In other countries is this normal I thought it was a bit over the top. Thats OK for the bigger contracters they can getaway with it. I'm a small company an I find it better to charge repairs by the hour. The customer asks "will it take long" answer Oh 4 hours, get it done in 3 an charge 3, Customer is happy an calls again New installations are fixed price according to KW (tons) Gone fishing

Glad someone noticed, Empuria has a good rule, You get caught going out to the flight line with your chest strap undone an your grounded for the day. A good rule. Gone fishing -
