  1. WOW, this ones already made the rounds. Sorry bout the DBL post. I just got it as an email about a half hour ago There's no truer sense of flying than sky diving," Scott Cowan
  2. On Saturday afternoon, I was sitting in my lawn chair, drinking beer and watching my wife mow the lawn. he neighbor lady from across the street was so outraged at this that she came over and shouted at me,"You should be hung!!" I took a drink from my can of Budweiser, wiped the cold foam from my lips, lifted my darkened Ray ban Sunglasses and stared directly at this nosey neighbor and then calmly replied, "I am, that's why she cuts the grass." Thought this one was funny KAI There's no truer sense of flying than sky diving," Scott Cowan

  4. CASH, Just to let you know, in June of '01 I was 5'8 and weighed 250. Today i got on the scale and weighed in at 174. I did it with my own variation of the Atkins diet. Ive always been a meat eater so that wasnt the hard part, but i always ate potatoes with every meal. First i eliminated all the carbs out of my diet for 6 days, on the 7th you can eat whatever you want, but in moderation. Im glad to see that you quit drinking soda, but if you have the craving, drink diet (Diet DR. Pepper is the closest to a "loaded" soda i have found). Keep walking and increase the speed until you get down to a comfortable weight to run at. These things worked for me. Good luck KAI There's no truer sense of flying than sky diving," Scott Cowan
  5. Here's the Official Copy I have The Beer Rules An unwritten law, one as immutable and irrefutable as gravity and backed by history, states that skydivers enjoy the drinking of beer almost as much as flight itself. A manifestation of this fact is the tradition of the buying by an individual skydiver a case of beer (that being twenty-four cans or bottles holding twelve or more ounces of beer, ale, or some similar such substance) for his or her fellow jumpers to celebrate the accomplishment of a particular feat or milestone in one's jump career. It is generally recognized that the buying and drinking of such beer enhances that common bond shared by skydivers and contributes greatly to the body of knowledge concerning parachuting and its related activities. It is a sad fact that some skydivers are ignorant of what constitutes a significant achievement (usually and henceforth referred to as a "first"). Equally sad is the fact that some unscrupulously thirsty jumpers will shamelessly try to "weasel" a case of beer out of a jumper for an inauspicious event. Recognizing this, the following happenings are to be regarded as suitable occasions for buying beer. This list is not to be construed as exhaustive. First jump (It is not required of students. They are simply encouraged to participate). If more than one first is accomplished on a single jump, only one case of beer is required. Participation is voluntary. If a skydiver chooses not to participate by buying, neither shall the skydiver enjoy the fruits of the accomplishments of others. Non-drinkers may buy sodas and buyers may make up any part or whole of their purchase in soda for the enjoyment of those non-drinkers. It is generally recognized that using a reserve parachute for the purpose of saving one's worthless, non-packing self from a gory death requires him to buy the saving rigger dinner or the bottle of liquor of his choice. These articles are ironclad and binding. For the price of an additional six-pack, a sniveling skydiver may enlist the services of an S & TA to represent him or her in a hearing where the committee will rule against that skydiver a second time. Completing the student course of instruction First four way First eight way First CRW First time in the peas First night jump First kiss pass First competition First water jump First naked jump First jump on your own pack job First dead center (measured by a judge or electronic scoring pad on a three or five cm disc) First jump on a new main or new rig (purchased, not borrowed) Any license, award, rating, or badge Getting your name or photo in "Parachutist" Magazine Gross safety violations not resulting in serious injury or death Any jump ending in "00" First cutaway/reserve ride First jump from an aircraft not normally used at home drop zone First jump at a new drop zone First demo jump First save (you riggers thought you were getting off easy) Vomiting in the airplane or on another skydiver First round canopy jump (Geez, used to be the other way around) First broken bone First camera jump There's no truer sense of flying than sky diving," Scott Cowan

  7. Atsaubrey, Two years ago i was in the same predicament you are right now. I'm 5'8" and used to weigh 250 For my 30th birthday (im 31 now) my SO bought me a gift certificate for a Tandem. I worked my ass off for a year to lose the weight i needed to. I went from 250 to 180 which is where im at now. Skydiving is definetly a motivating factor. First, get on the Atkins diet! Second, Start walking working out (you dont need a gym) pushups and situps work wonders, Walk at least 1 mile a day for your first week and increase it by a half mile per week. You will start noticing a change. The first step is gto get up off the couch or the PC and start doing something. If i can lose the wight that I did, anyone can do it. Good luck and Blue Skies KAI There's no truer sense of flying than sky diving," Scott Cowan

Friday rolls around and the skies start darkening up.The rain couldnt possible last till Sunday could it?? OK Saturday morning its still raining, time to start praying to the skygods and the local meterologist to let the skies open up by Sunday. Wake up Sunday morning and its still raining!! Call the DZ, theres no chance of getting it done, reschedule for Monday. Monday morning comes and you'll never guess what happened! More god damned rain. Call the DZ again no chance!! OK now im getting pissed, Reschedule for Today at 1100. I wake up at 0700 to the sound of rain AGAIN!!! Call the DZ, theyre closed and just as pissed off as I am!! The otter never left the hangar all weekend!! Now im on a short week and not a lot of $$ (house payment just came in the mail). Now im just sitting here thinking if ill ever get my AFF done. Its been 2 weeks since my last jump and im just getting more pissed off by the minute and im afraid of becoming non-current. I just saw the forecast for the rest of the week and its going to be sunny every damn day for the rest of the week! Sorry I just wanted to rant and rave a bit. Hope theres Blue Skies where you're at. 24. Dont feel bad, I made my first tandem on JUL 5th. did 2 more tandems after that, and made my first AFF jump 2 weeks ago, Am i scared?? YES but probably for the wrong reasons. I dont want to fail a jump. I started this with a time table to get it done and if i happen to fail a level it just pushes me that far back. Not to mention that in order for me to afford this, I work about 60 hours in a normal week and 70-75 hours every other week, but i will have the satisfaction of knowing that i earned it. Its nice to see someone else with the same fears. I also dream about skydiving every free minute of the day. I f you ever want to " compare notes" im in the forums or just shoot me a message P.S im scared shitless everytime i get in the otter Blue Skies KAI There's no truer sense of flying than sky diving," Scott Cowan
