  6. Don't ask me, ask Drew. He's expert. You realize you're allowed to think for yourself, right? You keep deferring to this mystery instructor's opinion as if it is infallible. You realize experienced people can be wrong, right? That is exactly WHY you need to be able to apply logic on your own. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

  12. So I have observed within the skydiving community that Sony cameras are regarded as long-lasting and durable. I see a lot of people jumping 7-year old cameras. I bought an HC-90 new less than 2 years ago. Last month, the LCD stopped accepting inputs unless it was swiveled out "completely" and backed up against the body. Tonight it stopped lighting up entirely, except again, when up against the body. The camera is not unusable obviously, but this is incredibly annoying. I have taken VERY good care of this camera. Is it possible this is in any way related to the freefall environment (only 200 jumps on it), or is the "flip" screen just a poor idea to begin with, that is destined to have a short occur at the swivel connection point? Is there any simple fix to this? If it is just a poor design, well that really sucks. My camera was $800 new. It would suck a whole lot more if I spent $2000 on a top of the line model and was still stuck with the same cheap flip screen that died after 2 years. Not happy. If I shot tandems or something that paid for the camera, it would be one thing. But I don't view this as a disposable expense. I only shoot wingsuit videos for fun, and $800/200 jumps = $4/jump. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Mine has a bigger Reynolds number than yours. My wingsuit, I mean! www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  14. You're so dramatic, Tony. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  15. Man, that is weird. Which connectors are behind the door? If you have access to some high-speed air (get in the tunnel or drive really fast ) it would be interesting to have your fingers over all the ports and remove them one by one and see which one, when hit with airstream, turns the camera off. Still doesn't make any sense to me. I wonder if it's the HC5 in general or something specific to your unit. Anybody else use HC-5 + Cameye? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  16. 75 jumps on my GTi and 400 jumps on my S3... no problems. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  17. Why not try a jump without the Cameye, but taping the door open? That way you are isolating variables rather than changing two at a time. I still cannot think of an explanation why air hitting the open connectors could somehow power the camera off. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  18. Those right-angle stereo connectors (and even the straight ones) are notorious for developing weird shorts. I had a mouth switch that I thought was broken but it was just the stereo connector. Think about every single pair of headphones you've ever owned... after a while they start going out in one ear, and if you flex the wire back and forth where it goes into the connector base, you can sometimes get the signal to come back in both channels (for a limited time). I'm actually really curious what causes this, it amazes me nobody can make a stereo connector that does not suffer this fate. I actually have a few old pairs of headphones that I've been meaning to pull apart at the connector and try to figure it out. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  19. Scott, I don't buy the "leaving the door open" thing... I've jumped my DVcam in dozens of environments (including Eloy) and the door is completely ripped off. I can't think of a logical reason why air touching an electronic connection would cause the camera to shut off. Have you jumped that specific Cameye before, or is it brand new? I was thinking the Cameye could be malfunctioning, but that would be pretty easy to test on the ground though. I don't know... this is a stumper. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

    Cheaters

I'll bite. Jealousy, plain and simple. I'm speaking for myself and nobody else, so nobody accuse me of calling you jealous. I've read enough Heinlein to appreciate the beauty (on paper) of the polyamory you're suggesting. But I'm also certain it would not work with 99% of the people in most modern societies, and I'm not sure, but I probably fall in that 99% myself. Now, does my own pre-disposition toward potential jealousy stem from nature or nurture? Every psychological discussion possible always reverts to that one question, and it's not easily answered. Regardless of its source, our capability for jealousy probably has a lot to do with the development of the ideas of "monogamy" and "cheating". I really can't say because I've never been in a society where anything else is embraced, and you really can't judge a practice's viability (or source) without observing it in action, in real life. I've never been cheated on (that I know), and sometimes I picture it happening and picture myself not being jealous. But I know I probably would be, and if I ask myself why, it is because I know the "cheating party" is also monogamously-minded (it doesn't matter why, just that she is), and if she has begun loving somebody else, she will probably shortly stop loving me, if she hasn't already. I have a lot of sports I am interested in but skydiving is pretty much the only one I've practiced regularly for years. Most people are "focused" in many other areas than their relationships. Many people pick up one sport and drop the previous. Get into BASE, drop skydiving. Sure it's possible to do both, but there's almost always an undeniable focal point. So if I allowed my dearest SO to love others, I would be opening myself to the possibility that she would have very little time for me in the future. Sure, she may split her time 50/50 between me and the new guy, but maybe it would be 10/90 and I'd only see her a few times a year, and then I'd get lonely. The bottom line is that while true love should supposedly be selfless, love is also a very selfish thing (as is any human endeavor, if we are honest with ourselves). Selfishness is a virtue: maybe you know who said that. And with selfishness comes jealousy. Both of those words have such negative connotations to them that most people treat them as sins. Well, I'll be the first to admit that I selfishly (and proudly) love my girlfriend, and desire as much time with her as I can get, and that if polyamory (while intriguing in concept) could open the door to losing 90% of my time with her to somebody else, I would undoubtedly become jealous. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

    Holy Smoke!

My chest started hurting really bad last night and I thought I was coming down with another respiratory infection... but my girlfriend convinced me it was the smoke I'd been breathing all day. Anybody else have burning lungs or throat? As of this morning I can't even smell the smoke because I've gotten used to it... but I can still see it. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

  24. Yes, good deal. Too bad I bought a couple Ultra II 4GB's a few months ago. They were $40 at the time, pretty good deal too but not quite this good. But in my camera Ultra II and Extreme III have near identical data rate, from Rob Galbraith's tests. Prices are coming DOWN! www.WingsuitPhotos.com
