  3. Holy cow... I just googled that. I had no idea materials like that existed. This is like Batman stuff. Very cool. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  4. How's this for specific? http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/canon_printers/Canon_ProMKII_Printer_MIR.2009.9.30.pdf You have to click on "mail in rebate" link on the item page. I cannot guarantee that this (or any) rebate will work... but I do MIR deals like this ALL the time from Slickdeals.net. It's how I got my $500 PS3 for $300 last year. It's how I got 3x 8GB SDHC and 3x CF cards (all 6 Sandisk Extreme III) for less than $30 total (like $200+ retail). It's how I just built my PC for about $800 instead of $1100 (I had about 9 different MIR's there and they all got processed correctly). It's how I just got a $800 retail laptop for $520. I have never been burned by a rebate, especially from a reputable reseller like Amazon or a reputable manufacturer like Canon. There are always horror stories about rebates not going through... but the form is there for you to read now, and in my experience if you meet all the terms, fill out the form and dot your i's and cross your t's, you will get your $$$ back as promised. And as long as I'm bragging on my slickdeals, I just got a license to Windows 7 Ultimate for free.
  5. Yeh, you can get the body brand new for $700 on Amazon, no strings attached. And if you are so inclined to do a rebate, you can get a $450 printer with $400 back, so you spend $750 and have the printer AND camera. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  6. T1i at Amazon for $800 (or less without the kit lens) If you buy a Pro9000MkII printer in the same order ($450), you get a $400 mail in rebate, so basically $50 for that kickass printer. Then, you can either keep the printer and use it, or sell it for $300 or so on eBay, which puts you at $800-$250=$550 out or pocket for the camera. I am doing that, and selling my old XTi for probably $400 on eBay, so basically $150 out of pocket in the end for a really nice upgrade and a kit lens (last kits lens I had was 350D which wasn't as good)... or less than $100 out of pocket for just a body upgrade. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  7. I don't get the Q. This is off of teh Hypoxic page of compatable units for the D-mini http://www.gethypoxic.com/support/useful-topics/50-hypeye-d-pro-a-hypeye-d-min-compatible-camcorders.html High Definition on Memory Stick (AVCHD) HDR-CX7 HDR-CX12 HDR-TG1* HDR-CX100 HYPEYE D MINI not recommended HDR-CX100B HYPEYE D MINI not recommended That was the reason for the question... Scott I think the "mini" is an indicator only, i.e. it has no control unit that can power the camera on and off. The CX100 has no external power button, you have to mess with the LCD screen opening. So the "pro" (rather than the mini) with the control unit seems the best logical choice. That's my guess. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  8. an evil clone? so you're implying that jsho is inherently good... no evil in there whatsoever... all innocent and pure... That was exactly what I thought when I that. Just say "clone"... evil is redundant. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  9. Unfortunately I put somebody else in harm's way there. I got a good video of his face giving me a WTF look as I went by though. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  10. So true. This gem was taken a fraction of a second before I nearly collided with the leader of that formation. I had my body in a REALLY weird tweaked position to try to get this certain angle with the flock and the sunset both in frame, while still flying in the right direction myself. I got fixated on my shot and didn't realize the flock started changing heading, and ended up passing by at way too high a rate of speed, way too close. One of the stupidest things I've done in a long time, and one of the nicest shots I've got in a long time. I'm pretty sure the tongue switch was activated by panic as I realized what was happening. But this is the shot I was after... I guess it wasn't entirely an accident then. But still stupid. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

  13. I think Laszlo has told me he jumps one. Myself, I never understood how you could do it without hindering motion in some way. In freefall I need to crane my neck in some very strange directions to get the shots I want. I've been told that a brace will still allow you to do that, but provide protection when you need it, but that makes no sense to me. It either will stop your neck from moving, or not. If you can overcome its resistance with your own neck muscles (looking around in freefall), then a strong opening shock would certainly overcome it. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

  15. Clicky for the Facebook photos from the OP: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/album.php?aid=33477&id=1527095635 It took you less than a year... you beat me. I've probably had half a dozen people in the past 2 years tell me they were starting a CCM. You are the first one who has actually finished. Congrats! You definitely look like a monster flying through the air. Scary. No ringsight? How does if fit/feel/fly? What still camera do you have on there? I just got a CX100 like you have, but haven't mounted/flown it yet. Cya soon Bart. I am contemplating starting my next one soon. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  16. Jesus, that wingsuit pass looked way crazier than the canopy one. Very small window he must pass through... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  17. Here ya go... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3662764 Less than 2 weeks old. The nice thing about the search function is you can sort results by date, if you end up reading threads from 2000 then it's your own fault. But even more obvious than reading the info already at your fingertips... you can try just looking up and reading the brand name off of the camera on top of the head of the next skydiving photographer you see. 9 out of 10 of them will be wearing Canons. Have you seriously never noticed that? I have whuffo friends who come to the DZ once or twice and take notice of all the Canon cameras. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  18. Lurch, when I teach (it has been a while) I only explain how to ball up. Flying out works sometimes, sure... but they can figure that out on their own one day. Balling up is the prescribed failsafe as far as I'm concerned, and the only thing they need to be taught. I have had a few "big name" instructors tell me they only teach "tracking out" of it, which I think is a horrible idea. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  19. Might be true. I've been watching people getting burbled and tumbling for a long time, since I'm usually above the flock filming. One thing I've noticed is that more often in the past (and still with inexperienced flyers) people would go into dozens of tumbles just from getting burbled. More often these days (and with more experienced flyers) you will see only a single tumble from a burble... or sometimes even NO tumbles... just a body check, push away, and keep flying. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  20. I'm not sure that backflying skills would help this situation. Certainly not after it gets "bad" (at that point it may indeed be too late) and before it gets "bad" the best choice is still to ball up. Trying to fly out of it, either on your back or belly, can just lead to a faster spin. I've flown out of many tumbles myself (but never on my back, even though I can backfly)... but at some point you have to decide the tumble is fast enough that you stop trying to fly and start balling up, and fast. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  21. Yeh, I installed CoreAVC and now it seems to run a lot better, thanks. But now I can't tell whether or not my K-Lite Codec pack or the CoreAVC is taking precedence in certain situations. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  22. I believe it. That's scary. I think, for the same reason curling to fetal is a "stronger" move than squeezing legs together... as far as the arms are concerned, "curling" to reserve handle is probably a "stronger" move than pinching back for BOC. The goal is to never get in a situation like that... but if you have to fight a massive force with your arms, there is one way they are going to be much stronger to move in. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  23. I count at least 4-5 seconds at the beginning where the spin is still relatively slow (compared to how fast it gets later on) and see no serious "ballup" position, just a couple cases where the legs are bent slightly. Certainly nothing like this: Now, if this suit is indeed so pressurized that you physically can't ballup (not what the OP said, but I know somebody will suggest it) even at a low "tumble speed," then I wouldn't fly one. But I'd wager it is very possible to ballup in that suit, and challenge somebody to get a photo of themselves balled up tightly just to prove it.
  24. Not sure. I'm gonna go with the first one though, my guess it that heavy compression is a harder hit than high bandwidth, but not sure by what margin. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
