Hey, it's my first full-length video! (i.e. more than 15 seconds) That said, feedback/criticism/etc is more than welcome - please let me know what you think. I used Sony Vegas on Omar's advice, having only used Pinnacle in the past, to screw around with short stuff. It probably took me 12 hours for a 3 minute product , but I'm fairly happy with the result. VIDEO! Footage from wingsuit dives in the Florida Keys, a couple weeks ago. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

That is VERY cool, Jarno. Gives me some ideas for next time I get a video made. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Welcome to my world. GUK included. Something to Write Home About is still my fav. As an example (one of many), I would have NEVER guessed the Mars Volta could become popular in the mainstream. I would have been wrong. Same goes for Death Cab For Cutie. And Bright Eyes. And many more. Many bands that I saw play years ago, in a room with literally fifty people listening, and me talking to, and drinking with, the bandmembers afterwards - many of these same bands today, if I go see them, are playing in huge arenas where I can't even see their faces. And the funniest part of all? I liked their music better years ago. That comment is NOT music snobbery nor does it imply I automatically like music less if it's popular. I'm just dead serious that old Bright Eyes, or Mars Volta, or Death Cab, is better than the stuff the kids are flocking to hear today (which is still good). www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Oops. I told Perry I'd post about this but it slipped my mind. There will for sure be a lot of birds at Zhills this weekend (more than normal). People from South FL coming, people from North FL coming, locals, fall boogiers, etc. So if you were thinking of coming out but weren't sure, consider this post a sign. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Have you ever heard of a generation (in the past several decades at least) where popular music wasn't misunderstood and vilified by adults? The comments about suicide, often made even by emo kids themselves, are an attempt to poke fun at those poking fun at them. Sort of intentionally repeated misconceptions for the sake of humor. Kids will always kill themselves no matter what they're listening to. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

There've only been 7 so far... I have the last 3 on my HDD and honestly I can't even remember a thing about them but that I loved them, better than anything I've seen in the past several years (which I will admit have been weak). I have always watched every single new episode, no matter how poor the quality was getting, and that is one reason this season was such a pleasant surprise. Again, either that or my sense of humor changed with age. Since I can't remember, I will link to SNPP - Season 17 guide. None of the episodes sound funny in summary (Simpsons has never relied on excellent plots), but there were tons of little things that had me dying in several of these episodes. The one with Homer buying a dumbell and doing several thousand curls with one arm was priceless. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Last reply, I promise. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo Also, if you know the bands featured in this game (or maybe even if you don't), The Emogame is hilarious. I played it a long time ago; apparently there are a bunch of sequels on the site now. I have only played version 1, but it has Aerosmith in it and is very funny (again, this coming from someone who knows all the bands... I guess jokes like those making fun of Tim and Connor for being lushes just aren't as funny if you haven't seen these bands play). www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Even after I just got done saying labels are debatable, I can say with confidence that is not true. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
-
Like anything other "label", it is debatable, and often is debated heavily by pseudo music geeks. Many of these music geeks would say that the bands you listed are not emo, that true emo is more along the lines of Sunny Day Real Estate, Fugazi, or Cursive. If you ask me? I will defer my answer to a quote by the Mars Volta, regarding music labels. "We are really tired of those labels and questions," says guitarist, co-founder and producer Rodriguez-Lopez. "Concept album? How can any huge project that takes up most of your life for a year not have a concept? Prog? How can any innovative, forward-thinking art or music not be progressive? It reminds me of when I first heard the label "Emo," which was the most ridiculous label ever. How can anything you put your heart and soul into not be emotional?" www.WingsuitPhotos.com

And the question was... "Is The Simpsons still funny?" What does controversy have to do with humor? I'm pretty sure I haven't used the word "grownup" since I was a kid. To me, humor which relies on controversy (or references to pop culture) is inherently more immature (that means it's not for thems grownups), as is ranking two different things against each other, as if everything is a contest. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Any Atlanta area DZs going to be open over Christmas?
The111 replied to labrys's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I'm pretty sure all DZ's shut down for Christmas, so the jumpers can go home and knit quilts. At least that's what I heard. Seriously, I don't know about Atlanta for sure, but I'll bet you'll be able to find something, www.WingsuitPhotos.com -

Very cool idea! I'm mad I didn't think of it first! EDIT: How about we get all BM and PF flyers to form two groups and fly straight at each other, and take a pre-impact picture and call it the brandwar dive? Sorry, I can't resist making jokes about the brandwars... www.WingsuitPhotos.com

I'm a fairly new BMI, so my response to your criticism will naturally seem biased. But try to take this post objectively. While working a BIRD-MAN tent at a very large boogie (WFFC), during the week I had SEVERAL (not one, but SEVERAL) people come to the tent asking if I could put their used wingsuits up for sale, because they were done with wingsuit jumping. When I asked several questions, I found the situation was invariably the same for all of them. They had 10-20 wingsuit jumps They were still scared of the suit They were still unsure of certain things about wingsuit flight (things they should know very well by now, that should have been covered in a FFC) They had nobody in the air to give them feedback on their peformance One guy was actually complaining that his deployments were hurting him, and he thought this was normal! He was surprised when we explained a proper deployment sequence to him, and that it should not hurt when done right. He agreed to keep his wingsuit and try our tips. The response was the same with the other people - the solutions to their problems were things we would have covered with them in a FFC, but these things were mysteries to these people. All were very interested in holding onto their suits and flying again. That example aside, at large boogies in various places, even when I am not working as a BMI, I often meet people who describe wingsuit jumping as SCARY instead of FUN. And when I get to the root of it, it was always their first WS jump which was SCARY (and rightfully so when they describe the instruction they received, and the actual jump itself). First impressions are lasting. Say what you want about the money I charge for a FFC, but the bottom line is I like wingsuits and I want more people to jump wingsuits with - I want our sport to grow. If I can give someone a FUN, SAFE first impression of the sport, chances are they'll be back for more. I am sick of seeing people who wet their feet in the wingsuit world and never return. It takes time to cover all the bases on a first flight and I charge for my time (a fairly normal practice in this sport, and not a very strange concept). Those who want free instruction can always find it, but in this sport you get what you pay for, usually. What does general experience have to do with a newbie's understanding of the sport? www.WingsuitPhotos.com

For the past few years they've been hit and miss, but I swear the first 7 episodes of season 17 have all cracked me up. So either they are doing something right again, or my sense of humor is dulling with age. I don't have cable either - I download every episode, each week. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
