35 mph steady or gusting from 0 - 35?
-
I've jumped when it was that damn cold and that is when I came down and said - I'm moving to Florida!! When your hands are inside gloves and still hurt and don't want to work enough to even release the toggles - it definitely takes away some of the fun. But I love skydiving more too - so I just packed it in and followed the warmer air currents.
-
low 50's???? We had 30's for two days last year! Where were you?
-
It gets chilly but chilly for us is nothing compared to the northern dzs. There is a two or three week period usually around new year's that I boycott jumping just because I'm so spoiled I don't want to bother with heavier clothes and gloves. Spoiled Rotten - you will be too!
-
no good news yet. I spoke with rtp and he said the otter is promised to Atlanta that weekend for the Freefly Festival. I'm still working on at least a second aircraft - if not a bigger one.
-
It's never too cold until you become a licensed skydiver and you start going to warmer places and you realize, hey I don't have to have frozen snot on your face, cracked lips and fingers, and all this pain. Then you start traveling or move, jump like crazy for a few years get completely spoiled and get to the point where you walk outside in your tank and shorts and say..."hmmm... I don't know, I'd probably have to put on a longsleeve shirt to jump today - I'll wait until noon and give it some time to warm up or wait until tomorrow - yeah, it's going to be in the 90's tomorrow.."

wow, i think i might be the one who said to you that it was common - if it was in a different forum. Don't get too worried about it. It is common. You are a new girl on a dz. Anytime you walk onto a new dz - you are the fresh new mystery girl. There are a lot more girls everyday in the sport but the new chick on the dz is always a hot new item. I travel a lot in this sport and experience it all the time. It feels great but pretty soon you realize it's just the way things are. Those of us who take up the sport and stick with it - who go beyond a year or two and a couple hundred jumps - are almost always "cool chicks" - the guys at our own dz finally become used and give us space but when we go somewhere new - it's sometimes ridiculous how they flock around. Instructors sleeping with their students is very common! It doesn't mean he doesn't care for you! It's just a very common theme. He is exciting and new because he is teaching you something so different and exciting from anything you've ever done before. He's saving your life and giving everything you do a new special feel. He is whether you want to admit godlike to you. As for you - you are fresh, new and excited to be a part of this entirely new experience of skydiving. It may not be that he is just out for the "pussy pass" but your excitement and enthusiasm for your new passion in life is very attractive and exciting. If he were smart he would have at least waited until you got off AFF status but... what can you do. It might work, it might not and either way it's yet another life experience. It's too late now anyways, you're already in so go with it and stop worrying about it.

thanks - I knew someone would do that to me. Good thing I'm never going to do anything in politics - they would have such a field day digging up dirt on me - it would be very entertaining, though.

You may have spelled it correctly but did you print it clearly?? I fax in forms to the USPA for people all the time and I'm amazed at some of the junk they send in. They could all be Doctors from what I've seen of the way they fill out forms. Or then again, someone could have made a typo - either way I'd fix it.
-
Yeah, back when I first started I used to ride my little red Honda to the DZ too. When the ex-husband tried to dissuade me from AFF and gave me the choice of the bike or the course (thinking, of course, that I wouldn't give up the bike) I sold it that day. Next time he gave me an ultimatum, I sold him... actually I didn't sell him - he cost me A LOT!!!

Without agreeing with someone or something you can still admire the fact that they pulled something off and I think as usual, the comments were probably taken out of context. If you study history at first some of the things Hitler did were pretty good - that's how he started to suck in a nation. Then he warped it all and became a blood sucking evil tyrant bent on genocide and trying to take over the world. It was horrible but how the hell did he manage to do it? We need someone with his leadership skills who is bent on good instead of evil - don't anyone dare take that out of context and try to imply that I mean we need a Hitler!

not to get into anything technical but DVD is more complicated than CD. Your DVD player can run the simpler CD's but if you want something to play a DVD - you've got to go with a DVD player. DVD's are just more advanced.

I used to jump a spectre and I wouldn't laugh at you swooping under a spectre - it can swoop. A few years ago there were actually a couple of people still competing on them. I switched to the Crossfire 2. I loved both canopies. I went from a 120 to an 89 - but I am a small female. The Crossfire 2 is nice and responsive and you can get a nice swoop from it. I do love PD though and I've demoed the Velocity. I think the C2 is a sweet inbetween canopy.

You could possibly be related to my ex-husband. I kept the name but ditched him. I've seen your name in the system at sebastian or maybe it was xkeys or maybe both... My ex-s name was Matthew and I know he had grandparents in Winter Garden, a brother in Daytona, relatives in Ohio, Texas, Virginia and the rest of them are in Massachusettes. Sorry, for sidetracking the thread.

you'd better be spreading stories about me. I've been slowing down lately - I have an image to uphold. If I'm not careful people start saying crap like - oh yeah, I know her she's really nice. (then you know they don't know me!!)
-
I think there is a big difference about talking about someone who doesn't happen to be present if you are just telling some story or if you are just being nasty. Are we not supposed to ever tell true stories if it might not cast the person in the best light or might embarrass them when they aren't around. I do all kinds of dumb shit and I fully expect it to be repeated whether I'm present or not. And when I'm a shithead if someone shares that story - so what I was a twit. I will walk away from people who are just nasty and jealous and spreading crap but don't take all the fun out of sharing experiences because of the whole 'I can't say it because they aren't here rule'. I pretty much figure if I say something - I expect that it will be repeated - probably not only repeated but twisted and completely distorted by the time it gets back around. So I use the rule of thumb - would I say it in front of that person if they were here? whether it is something funny, nasty or nice. Or maybe I just like being in trouble anyways. I'd rather someone be honest with me than be nice any day. (NOT spitefully mean but honest.)

I can't believe that this many people respond to a posting about how much we all love our office supplies. When we aren't in the air we are either dangerous to ourselves and others or so bored that we are almost pathetic. And I'm jealous beause all my office supplies are just functional - they aren't special at all.

Are you telling me that you haven't met any EXTreamly immature skydivers who get off on the whole EXTream thing. Who jump just so they can prove and brag about how EXTream they are? And I've got to tell you I'll probably get a lot more banged up trying to catch five feet of air on a skateboard than catching 13,500 any day. I know how to land my parachute but how do you land on a piece of wood with wheels on the bottom that isn't even strapped on. That's beyond me. EXTream is in the eye of the beholder, I guess. Actually, I'm just playing devil's advocate - the whole extreme thing bugs the crap out of me too!

Ok, I need a DJ for the Keys Boogie. Last year we had some guy lined up who supposedly broke down on the way and never showed up for the party. I need a DJ to spin on Saturday night, November 8th in the Keys for us. How about some of you awesome skydivers who can spin? Place to sleep, free registration - maybe a nice trade for jumps - we can talk about it. Any ideas?
-
Not necessarily bad - just very, very common in this sport.
-
oh yeah, although I haven't visited the site recently - it is great!
-
Charge it and get both!!

Always happy to see people making changes for the better in their lives but don't go all sicky sweet and pacifist like on me - I've always liked you just the way you are. A person can be blunt and honest and still be a good person. You don't have to always turn the other cheek and there are people who are super annoying out there that you just have to throw up your arms and walk away from sometimes. Last time I talked to you, you were pretty happy - that's it I'm going to call you.

DO NOT BRING MEZCAL TO MY HOME!!! That was the most foul, god-awful thing I have ever put in my mouth - really and I've had some bad things in there!! I promise to hurt you if you bring it and not in a good way.

So start seeing skydiving chicks who jump their own 79 velocity! Some of us do know how to fly a canopy.
