Contemplating buying my first rig
Kramer replied to bluewaterstream's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's weird man, I'm going through the EXACT same deal right now. I have 14 jumps, weigh 175, and am buying a rig with a 210 main in it. The best advice I can hand to you that my instructors and others have given me, is this: Downsize slowly, only jump what you can handle, and don't be afraid to ask questions. I am buying a rig with a 210 for sure. But instead of just jumping it right away, I am going to rent some gear with a 250 in it, then a 230 for a few jumps, THEN go down to my own gear and with the 210. Just be smart, you'll be fine. -Kramer The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!! -
You're gorgeous. I say keep it as is. -Kramer The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!

Umm...we can get ourselves videoed? Hehe...I have no video of myself in freefall, I'd pay someone $1,000 right now that had video of my first AFF jump. So if anyone's out there reading this that's about to go through AFF, get video. You'll be glad you did. I'll get video soon, I wanna see if my face flaps real bad. -Kramer The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!

Stephanie, nice post. I have a lot less jumps than you, so take my advice as a grain of salt. Don't be afraid or nervous about having a malfunction or cutting away. It's part of the sport. I have had moments in time where I thought I was going to have to cutaway, but I stayed calm, examined my situation, and dealt with it how I had been trained to deal with it. It's no biggy. Cutting away isn't the end of the world, most anyone with over 500 jumps or so has probably cut away at least once. Odds are, it's going to happen to you someday. Just look up, realize you have a problem, look at your handles, and pull em like you were trained to do. Piece a cake. -Kramer The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!

Bush is my huckleberry. 100% on him, which actually surprised me, because while I like him, I don't like him that much. Edwards led the Democrats on my list. 76% -Kramer The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!

Arlo, while I can't be there for the fundraiser, I'd love to help. Let me know how much a raffle ticket is for tunnel time or something. Unless you have to be there to win, I'd be willing to help you guys out. I'll be back down in March, I could use it then. Thanks for doin this Arlo, while I don't know Stan, I'm guessing he'll appreciate it. -
I'm excited for ya, you're gonna have a great time down there. That'd be sweet if you moved there! Good luck with the interview. -Kramer The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!

Oh I still think your gonna kill yourself....But it will not be the canopies fault. Somehow I knew when I typed that sentence, that Ron would be quoting it. -Kramer The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!

Thanks everyone for the advice. I think I am going to buy the rig, get it inspected by my rigger, and then start jumping the F-111. If I don't like it, shell out a few hundred for a used Sabre2 of the same size, or just do that right from the get-go. Either way, I appreciate knowing that I probably won't kill myself if I do jump it. Thanks again guys. (Feel free to keep adding stuff, I'm listening). -Kramer The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!

That's not a bad idea at all, one that I had never really thought of. A lot of people who I've asked about this have said "yada-yada-yada...but that's just my opinion, ask your rigger" I guess that's why I'm seeking out a rigger's advice. If you really do call PD tomorrow to ask them about that chart, it would be awesome if you could PM me, or reply in here and tell me what they said. I really appreciate that. Your post was a big help. -Kramer The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!

A friend has offered to sell me his used rig. It is a Vector 3 with a PD 193 reserve, all that works great for me. However, the main is a 210 sq/ft PD 9-Cell. I have heard several things from several different people. Some have told me that there wouldn't be a problem if I jumped this, others have told me I shouldn't touch it. I have 14 jumps, probably wouldn't be jumping this rig until I have my A. I weigh 175. I have never displayed any problems with my canopy control, I feel very confident (fyi: not too confident enough to do something stupid) under canopy. But the main thing that bothers me is PD's website wingloading chart for this canopy (found here). If you'll notice, they say that a Novice jumper jumping a 210sq/ft shouldn't weigh more than 136. I have gotten opinions from quite a broad range of people, most of whom I trust quite a lot...yet they're all telling me different things. If there's anyone on here who is a rigger...particularly a Master Rigger, would you please let me know that you are a rigger in your reply to this...your opinion carries more weight in my mind. Thanks guys!!! -Kramer The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about that right click-open in new window stuff. But if you just left click, and drag it into your web-browser's address bar, it should work. -Kramer The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!

trip to florida, what will we need?
Kramer replied to Jumpmunki's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Umm, everything you own, so when you decide that you're not going to leave, you won't have to go all the way back to Europe to get your stuff. -Kramer The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!
