Hi Sparky We remember reading about the poor guy at perris who landed and then got hit by the dust devil, picked him up and slammed him down I'm guessing it happened about 15 yr's ago. Soon after that incident we were jumping at a boogie AT dillingham field with some people from perris. they were cocking their cutaway pillow prior to landing and then cutting away as soon as they landed to prevent getting slammed after landing.. If you've already landed and a dust devil starts to head your way or mess with your canopy cutaway!, don't have a clue about a RSL R.I.P.

Fact: All Skydivers Have Hard Landings
slug replied to Sled14's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hi Sled You can sprain/break you ankle landing on uneven ground, plowed field, walking into a gopher hole, landing off the DZ (bad spot), winds pick up after TO, get cut off on final etc. Shit happens If you can't afford to pay, don't play . R.I.P. R.I.P. -
Am I just (ummm) sniveling about sniveling?
slug replied to labrys's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hi Labrys Some F111 canopies used to have a reputation for sniveling after "X" number of jumps. We bought our cruise light brand new rolled the nose and had nice openings, around 500 jumps the SOB started to snivel real bad so we packed it nose fully exposed, pumped the brakes on opening like our lives depended on it, and cut a big hole (coffee can size) in the slider. Nothing helpedpeople were telling us it wasn't a snivel it waas a mal When we finally gave up on the snivelly pos we got a new Sabre 170 and the first time we packed it we left the nose fully exposed . Oops different canopy roll the shit out of the nose. Talk with the riggers and other people that jump the sme canopy, find out how their packing if it works for them it should work for you, Unless you got a ragged out canopy or it's out of trim. A slow opening is better than fast unless you have to pull/go out low R.I.P. -
We made some jumps one weekend at Bragg from a Huey in the late 60's. The price was right but the altitude was less than we would have liked. For the last lift of the day the pilot took us up to altitude 7500' maybe a little more.

Can you identify these Kapowsin and Perris jumpers?
slug replied to sundevil777's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Hi Sundevil Scratch head, scratch butt, Scratch head, scratch butt I'm gonna guess that the photo was taken at kapow due to the waterski track at the bottom left of the pic and it was taken by a dude named Harry from perris. Jumpers? Looks like cheeto with the racer container at about 10 oclock and maybe jesse at 3 oclock holding onto the right leg of some guy named cliff (in the nothern light container). Was that jump out of the porter? R.I.P. -
How do you feel when you see a new thread pop up in Incidents
slug replied to Amazon's topic in The Bonfire
Hi Amazon That the downside of doing the boogie ciruit and knowing a lot of people. You end up knowing a lot of people that got hurt. Incident reports are good for letting people know what not to do. They suck because they give a specific location and eventually a name. The downside of instant media. R.I.P. BTW got a chuckle from goggles and teeth bitchin about the 182 and tandems up north of seattle. Dude !!!! whats wrong with you -
But...But.... Gotta ask is the second pic Amazons Butt R.I.P.

Hi Laughing stock You asked why not a hooker? I think that's what he's advertising for but he she does have to meet certain mimimum stds, skydiver, under 30. Last but not least she has to be a perfect 10 iow a 3 that says yes R.I.P.
-
I'm working my way to that........ almost half way to the magic 500 number. Hard to build numbers when you work weekend evenings, and are constantly getting bumped due to tandems. I know tandems are the money maker, but there needs to be a balance, and the owner has over time chased off all the upjumpers. I guess I'm gonna be the next one "The Angry French Woman" chases off. The land owner and pilot said it used to be very busy before she got there. Now it only has the one c-182, and has trouble filling it. Hi G&T It's called reality Read what you wrote above You'r pissing in the wind and bitching about getting wet Some other "big" folks from your Dz saw the writeing on the wall a long time ago and started to travel the the big DZ in the south and now there happy campers in spite of that drive. Leave home early, go home late, car pool, sleep over, who knows maybe you'l be a happy camper. Good luck with whatever you choose, your in control not the Tandem factory. R.I.P.

slug replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions

Hi John Sorry I'm not a expert just a old fart. Skydiving was going on for a long time before 1989, my comments were based on a larger database than 15 yr's more like 37 yr's and take into account, changes in equipment training etc. Sorry I don't have total recall but IMO your number of 25 fatalities due to no pull/low pull doesn't sound right. But I won't argue with you about the point. I agree that we disagree, can you do the same? Sometimes jumpers make poor choices of wquipment because "everyone else is doing it". Using a lead fishing weight on the end of ripcords was a case in point. The idear prevented some lost ripcords but during a mal added a snagging possiability with tragic results. IMO students/low time jumpers using full face helmets is a bad idea but a great fashion statement. If it ends up being a problem they do have a cypres which will only help them in Free fall. Over and out the debate is over. People are going to do what they want to do. Thats why the number of fatalities/yr hasn't changed except last yr

Someone screwed up Skydivers Oh no They need parachutist's R.I.P.

Hi RMH You can have it both ways Lie R.I.P.

Hi SS I'm with you Some people have "lived" the history of skydiving and base their opinions on their experience. Other folks have a shorter history to base their opinions on. Their emperical review of the fatalities "back in the day" is based on the info provided in the reports which don't tell the whole story. ie lack altimeters, audio and visual, surplus gear one size fits all, 7500' sop for exit altitude, 1.5 shot capewells, 300 jumps was a lot, Lower opening & cutaway altitude etc. The avg number of fatalities/yr in US skydiving has stayed the same for the last 30 yr's, the cause of the fatalities has changed. IMO that says the weak point is the Human factor. A person with 22 jumps wearing a FFH is like a kid playing T-ball wearing a glove while batting. The pro's do it so the kids want to look cool like their hero's. R.I.P. R.I.P

Slug...I was thinking the very same thing! LOL Hi BB Who knows, the dude might be getting a bunch of PM's. Stay tuned folks, maybe someone attending the WFFC will let us know if he shows up with a Harem Without a picture, it never happened. R.I.P.

Welcome home Spencer

Veter Seriously Try jumping at another DZ who knows you might even like the new DZ better than "the ranch" If that don't work for you try another DZ until you find one you like. You don't have to jump at "the ranch". R.I.P.

There was a story about it on T.V. a dad (cop) found his 12-14 yo son sitting up in bed dead with the straw from the spray can of keyboard cleaner still in his mouth, Dad said he was on the lookout for reguler drugs but this stuff was new to him so he didn't recognize the signs. Sore throat, throwing up, etc R.I.P.
-
Hi cudlo Wouldn't expect anything else it's the internet. Someone had a good idea the site is being discussed on T.V. and if enough of the "chosen" ones get accepted and pay their dues someone is going to make some money R.I.P.

Hi AD Thanks for taking the time to give us the heads up. sorry to hear you had a problem. We cleaned out our profile about two years ago , just started to get some bad vibes. If there's any doubt about "the way people are" the response to your post should take care of that R.I.P.
