  1. As soon as the person that saw it got down, they should report it and the search should start there and then, start looking for the canopy, what if another jump plane is about to drop on top of the guy under his reserve.
  2. This is next monday/tuesday. Am I the only one?
  3. D is a 1000 jumps + some other stuff in the uk, it was 200 but that was approx 5-6 years ago.
  4. I've got an Infinity and they are very good, but I don't let people unfamiliar with the kit go any where the reserve pin any more because when first had it someone checked me on the flight line and put the flap inside the tape that covers the bottom of the pin, luckly I one did one jump that day, the next day I went to turn the cypress on the flat was a little stiffer than usual but I decided not just to pull it open, good job too because the bottom of the pin was stuck inside the flap, one not very hard pull on the flap would have resulted in a pilot chute in the face.
  5. just a big chunk from the inside of my mouth, when I got kicked in the head on exit.
  6. Anything with zigzag-marquis in it!
  7. I lost my Alti, it came off in free fall and went into the river in kolonma in may.
  8. jump it, it looks better than most of my pack jobs.
  9. I think uspa membership number are probably not the best gauge of how many current jumpers there are in the US. Anybody have any actual figures.
  10. Technically I would say Pilotchute leaving hand at deployment altitude. But in reallity for me and I would guess most others wave off & pulling is one automatic motion and the whole process takes 1 to 1.5 seconds, which would be 200-300ft, and your average snival is 400-700ft some times more. So some overlap could be possible if someone waves off or deploys at the same altitude. edited to say: freefall seperation should be what this post is about.
  11. When was the last time the velcro was peeled??
  12. If you were in or very close to a dust devil I would have thought you 4k alti reading might just be a false reading from the low pressure of the dust devil.
  13. its not entirley legal to cloud bust in the uk but at some DZ's it does happen sometimes, and there are a lot of factors involved when it does, who the CCI is that day, who the jump master is that load, weather conditions earlier that day, wind conditions, what the spot has been like up to that point, the height and thickness of the clould, if you can see the ground during tracking and pull time, etc, etc. If we do open in or above the clould slow sprials until you are out of the bottom is usually thought to be best, then pick your landing site when you can see the ground but make sure you land safely rather than always on the DZ, although I do know one guy who has a chest mount gps for birdman or canopy ride. I personal have never had any close calls but tracking and flying the canopy in clould is not fun and should not be done if avoidable. Luckly my DZ is not near any water but if it was I would not get out if I could not see the ground. If the conditions are good (ie clould above 4k, the spot is good that day and the clould is not too thick) I will still jump, if it is just me I am making the decesion about but if I'm jump master I personally will not put an entire load in the clould. Just in case you missed it at the top of the post it is actually illegal to clould bust in the UK. Blue Skies Jas.
  14. We've just come back after spending two weeks there. Spend the first night in a hotel in moscow and get you visa stamped. The DZ can't do it and no one in kolomna wanted to know. If there is enough of you and you call the DZ a while in advance they can come and collect you from the airport for a reasonable price. If not then public transport, bus to moscow 40RUB, bus to kolomna 70RUB and taxi to the DZ 200RUB, not a major problem, although not may people speak engish, a lot of pointing and gesturing required. A taxi from the airport to the DZ will cost about £100. The DZ, the facilties and the staff are fantastic, there's a massive landing area, jump ships are AN28, LET410 and a MI8 (which is very cool and you can with a bit of help put a 4 way out of the side door). The wind tunnel does not work and probably wont any time soon. There is no accomadation on the DZ (building work still in progress), so take a tent. The shower block is fantastic and the water is pumped from their own spring and is very drinkable. They only have mosqutios (I can spell) for two weeks at the end of may and two weeks at the end of august, but take repellant any way, lots. Apart from the DZ where the food is actually edable the two best places we found was the truck stop about 5 minute walk from the DZ and a Italian in Kolonma called Viva Pizza (which was very very nice), and if you get very desperate there is a MacDonnoalds. and I have to get back to work now. Have fun, who evers going you'll love it. edited to say: some of ours guys did 50+ jumps in a week.
  15. The way I understand these new rules there is going to be a certain amount of 'grandad rights' and with your IC1 and a 'C' licence they wont effect you untill you want to start swooping.
  16. I didn't do a tandem before AFF and I was fine; I have also met a person who did, hated the tandem, nearly didn't do his AFF because of it, but ended up loving it. But I'm sure a tandem first is a good idea for some people. I think it all depends on the individual person.
  17. JM1 and CH2 will be needed for B-licence. CP-1 (Canopy Piloting) and 200 jumps will be needed before doing any speed inducing landing manouvres. CP-2 will be needed before competing in swoop comps. What I don't know is when IC1 will be replaced, or has it already hapened? SORRY MY BAD

    L and B

What would happen to the needle on the dial if the batteries die in freefall.
  19. I think the CH1 will be needed before they give you your A licence and then JM1 before they give you a B licence. I might be wrong but I read this to mean that any body with an A licence already will still use the old system. Untill you want to learn to swoop at least then your meant to get CH2. JUST SPECULATION AT THIS POINT.
  20. In the UK the repack cycle is 6 calander months. No confusion.
  21. If got AXA cover, it's good, but how long will you be in Oz, with the anual cover no one trip can be more than 30 days. Not sure about the individual trip policy.
  22. I did AFF and was in an uncontrolable spin on one level, my instructor stop me and make me stable in a few seconds. The first level or two they probably wont let go and its very hard to go unstable with them holding on. Jas.
