  1. Boooo!!! Now we're stuck with Bettina and Jonathan who will probably go to sleep at 8PM!!! Hey Doug, if you want to get crazy I'm good until about 9PM Isaiah
  2. Yes you probably did meet me in Dublin. I'll be at Cross Keys all weekend so come over and say hi. If you think you might want to try a reserve, come over I'll answer any questions you might have. It's a great idea, it builds your confidence knowing what your reserve flies like before you have to. Later, Isaiah
  3. i got an email from isaiah yesterday actually - and he will be up there. didn't ask if he is bringing the tents. a windblade would do me fine though. you know - i never saw that 'action shot' mel took at css. Yup, I'll be there with the tent, some windblades and if you want some of the flags. I'll have a bunch of demos, including the reserves which PD will be paying for the hop&pops on the reserves. See you all there Later, Isaiah
  4. It is funny how you can get totally different opinions on the came canopies, personally I like them both, each one for different reasons. I have more jumps on the XF2 (500) than the Katana, when I first jumped the Katana I could get longer swoops out of the XF2, I didn't really like the Katana at first (just because they feel so totally different from each other), once I put a bunch of jumps and got familiar with the Katana (took about 40-50 jumps for me) I liked it more than the XF2. Now I think I can get longer swoops with the Katana. I think there both great canopies though, What I like about the Katana is the super light riser presser and the bottom end, you can fly it to a stop. Back to the original post though, it would be a good idea to try the Sabre2 120, then the Katana 120, it's a nice step from the Sabre2 to the Katana. You should also try the XF2 if you get the chance, both canopies are in the same performance range. Later, Isaiah
  5. QuoteBy your rationalization then, when a jumper with say 60 or a 100 jumps calls to demo a cross brace canopy, that PD should just ship it out and say: "Have fun! & Be careful!" This does happen, believe it or not. We don't try and think for people, but the fact is, we can recognize a potentially bad situation. The reason I work for PD is because, at PD we are not about selling canopies at any cost, or if it's not the right choice for the person. We don't try and push it on them. We would rather sell 1 canopy to someone who is perfectly matched for it than 10 canopies to people that it might not be there best choice. Unfortunately, not everyone is a canopy expert, sometimes people request canopies that are not right for them. The questions we ask are to make sure it's the right canopy for you, so that you don't end up with a canopy your not 100% happy with. If someone says to me I'm jumping x canopy, and I want to try y canopy and after I talk to them for a bit and find out they would probably be happier with z canopy, don't you think I should suggest it? I will not give someone a canopy that I feel is to aggressive for there current skill level, but I have also given people canopies, that if we just went by jump #'s would seem way too aggressive. It all comes down to a judgment call, yes some people might not get canopies they would be fine with and other people will get canopies the have no business under. That's just something we have to except. Everyone at PD really works hard to make sure everyone who buys our canopies is 100% satisfied with them. We want you to be happy with your canopy. Judging by the huge response to this tread, it looks like we have been doing a pretty good job. Later, Isaiah
  6. Hey, If you are not sure about the length of your break lines you can check out our website it has all the measurements on there. The factory setting on a Sabre2 has a little slack in the brake lines in full flight. http://www.performancedesigns.com/education.asp at the bottom of the page under canopy line trims. If you have any questions feel free to PM me Later, Isaiah
  7. Hey, Here is something that might help do the math. Your pilot chute should produce 7-10 G's later, Isaiah
  8. I just checked to see if we had any canopies come it for any maintenance from Kenny. Nothing from him, if someone can get the serial number I can check and see if someone else sent it in. Isaiah
  9. We haven't came out with "sweet spot" wing loadings for our canopies, mainly because it's not the same for everyone or every size. Also, depending on where you jump, people who jump at sea level tend to go with a higher wing loading, where people who jump at higher a elevation go with lighter wing loadings I know people who think the sweet spot on a Katana is 1.6 and others who think its 2.3, it's really based on who's flying the canopy. 10. Yeah, I know how you feel. I felt like that for the last 2 years at my previous job. Working like a dog so I can get enough money to keep on, but nothing else. Finally one day I had enough, it was like -20 degrees Fahrenheit (in upstate NY) I heard about the Flight 1 canopy skills camp (with the PD factory team and Scott Miller) in Deland. I just pulled out the old credit card and said "I wonder how I'm going to pay for this". I went down to Florida about a week before the camp, just so I would be current again. So, my main goal was to just make as many jumps as I could in that week, I got into Florida Sat. late afternoon, I didn't feel that great after traveling and the day was almost over so I didn't go jumping. the next day was great I made 12 jumps, weather was beautiful. I started thinking I was going to get like 80-100 jumps while I'm here, well the next 4 days were raining, windy and freezing cold. I couldn't believe it "can't I get a brake". Meanwhile, I was talking to a friend, she told me that PD might be hiring a new Marketing "tour" Rep. Just the thought of it made my blood start pumping. So, I went and applied. This was another side of skydiving that I never considered, I was thinking of getting some ratings and making a living at it, but at the same time I didn't want to get paid to jump out of airplanes. For many reasons, bad weather your not getting paid, or thinking "okay, 10 jumps and I'll be able to make my car payment", the other reason is I just love skydiving and I knew that if it was my job to jump I would lose interest. So, after I applied I followed up every week for like 2 months (I'm sure they got sick of taking my calls:-) Finally I was called for a interview. Once again I'm flying to Florida saying "I'll hopefully pay for this later". Another month went by, some nights I wouldn't be able to sleep just wishing I would get the job. Then I got the call "we're offering you the job" Those were the best words I'd heard in a while. That was about 9 months ago, now I'm settled in here at PD. I have to say it's a fantastic job. I can't think of anything else I'd rather be doing right now. I get to travel all over, meet great people every where I go, and just do things I never would have had the chance to do before. Everything now has settled out, I'm making less money than before, but I don't care I'm having a great time. I say go for it! I'd rather say "that was a bad idea" then one day be thinking "I wonder what if" There are no guarantees but it's worth the risk. So, if your ever at a boogie and PD is there come over and say hi, I'll be the guy in a red shirt with a big smile (something I used to only do when I wasn't at work) If you want to demo a canopy or just go make a jump (I really love the full altitude hop and pops), stop over I love it all. Take it easy! Isaiah

    Stows

Hey, The reason for keeping the stows of proper tightness is to make sure that the lines stay where they need to be throughout deployment and come off the bag in an orderly fashion. What happens when the bag gets pulled out and there are loose line stows is, some of the lines fall out of the stow, maybe not all of them so then you have lines all over. This might not always be a problem, but it's just not very clean. It does help you have cleaner deployments if you have nice tight stows Isaiah
  12. I had a little compass once, it came on the altimeter I bought used. It never seemed to be very accurate on the ground, and I never looked at it under canopy. One day I was trying some new velcro on the wrist strap and the thing flew off in freefall. I haven't missed that little compass yet. Isaiah
  13. We also had the RDS Isaiah
  14. This is a funny thread..... Poor sweet Kolla, what has she done to deserve this....LOL Sorry Boss, couldn't let this one go. Isaiah
  15. Just by watching what happens when you cut away one riser (the one side still attached is still inflated and starts spinning very fast, this under a PD 210) I don't think it would be possible to hold onto one riser, maybe a toggle. Isaiah
  16. My wife and I have Bev suits, If I was going to buy a new RW suit I'd go with Bev.
  17. Hey, Have you considered Ouragan? For a freefly jump suit.
  18. [ the manufacturer requires 1000 jumps at any wingloading on that canopy.] If I'm watching someone and there doing really well on a non x-braced wing I might just let them demo a Velo at 999 jumps But really, like Chuck said, If your not getting everything out of your canopy, and more importantly putting it where you want to consistently. (A lot of people can swoop somewhere on the DZ.) Getting a Velo will only slow down the learning process.
  19. We are still testing, like Ian said it's not as easy as just scaling up the smaller sizes. Until R+D is completely satisfied with the bigger sizes we just have to wait.
  20. Who put out those pack volumes? The method how pack volumes are figured is not 100% accurate. P.I.A attempted to put out a list of pack volumes. A great idea, but the method is not very accurate. The chart shows a seven cell PD-235 as having a larger pack volume than a nine cell PD-260. So, your better off going by what the container manufacturer said can fit in a rig, than going by pack volumes.
  21. http://www.performancedesigns.com/sabre2.htm The Sabre2 is a great canopy!
  22. (or their Super Otter if enough people pre-register). More people need to pre-register...we want the Otter
