  1. Learn to tell the differnce between cameye indicating 'stand by' and 'record'. This way you don't end up shooting an entire spot and then set the cam to stand by on line up. 2. This is actually some GREAT ideas. This is something I'm currently asking my fellow cam jumping buddies about so I can be as safe as possible. Respect!!!! “The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once!
  3. Thanx for the advice, otherwise I probably would have went out and bought them both... You have just saved me like 130€... If I ever meet you I'm gonna buy you some beers *promise*
  4. Since this is my very first camera setup I'd consider this as a 'learing project' when it comes to fit the box for the camera, but with all the specers I have added there is NO way for the camera to even shift 1/10 of a mm when the cover is closed Well the lens choice was the one thing I failed in researching properly, I even got 2 of them I actually read the post DSE made regarding wide angles for HDV cams some days after I got my lenses delivered..... I bought the .3 and .45 to cover all my needs, and now I have to replace them.. Found a dealer close to me that sells the Raynox lenses for basically the same price as I got the Cookie's for. So the lesson is, do your homework properly, then buy quality. This way one only need to cry once ;) /* EDIT: Spelling issues */ “The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once!
  5. Unless they have changed the mold tool for the top mount box it doesn't fit the HC5 very well. You need to add a whole lot of foam spacers inside and also cut away a bit around the opening. Atleast if you plan to use a cookie wide angle lens. I also cut a hole in the box so I can access the mode switch without opening the box. I have the pic's to show if you need it, just PM me and yo'll get the URL “The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once!
  6. I have seen several vidiots using top mounted PC cameras and those vidiots have been shooting for national teams (4 & 8 ways) so I don't see the problem using PC cam's on top. Personally I didn't want a side mount due to my neck problems (yes I do know it's quite stupid of me to strap on a cam when I have neck problems), and therefore I wanted to have the load centered instead of having a twisting momentum when I get a hard opening. I'm aware that this can be debatable what way is the better but I prefer to have it on top and centered. And no, I’m not going to add a still to my configuration “The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once!
  7. I had 279 jumps before I strapped on the camera helmet (vid only) and I'm still very careful what I'm going into. So far I have only done cam jumps in small groups 2 and 3 ways (myself included). I did a ton of research here on DZ.com and from expreienced cam jumpers wherever I met them (sending my thanx to you all). So when I bougt my gear I had a very good idea what to buy. I ended up with a HC5, .3 and .45 cookie lenses, Tonfly Diablo helmet complete with an 'almost fit' cambox I'm not planning on doing paid stuff until I have a solid level of experience. I just don't consider myself safe and good enough yet. This season I will focus on shooting 4-way FS “The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once!
  8. Well well well.... At least we now know where to spend our money Thanx man!! “The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once!
  9. My experience with Tonfly is that you have to take statements from them with a pinch of salt. They said that my HC5 should fit into the HC3 box without any need for modification. Yeah right.. I spent 8 hrs cutting it and insert foam spacers in order to make the HC5 fit into the box. If you know what you need then Tonfly is an excellent company to buy from, first class helmets no doubt about that! When it comes to boxes, I will buy from Cookie in the future. “The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once!
  10. Why not keeping a log book? Then you would know your jump numbers and wouldn't have to 'annoy' any one... Just a thought.... And btw, it's mandatory at least in some countries..... “The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once!
  11. Use Total Commander (WEB site) for this job. Just right click on the file with an '?' and press F6. Then you are able to type a new file name
  12. OMG!!!!! That's only 1/3 of the price compared to the prices in Sweden for this camera. It makes you wonder if this isn't to good to be true, and usually we know what that means. If they are for real it's just to bad that they don't ship outside of the US. “The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once!
  13. Probably Sweden is an exeption then, no problems buying a laptop without an OS here. But I agree, more $$ and time have to be spent in order to have a taylor made system. “The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once!
  14. I never buy a new computer with a bundled OS license, I buy an OEM license instead and then I'm free to choose any OS I please. A bit more expensive but freedom isn't cheap But getting rid of a pre installed OS isn't very hard, I have found the command 'fdisk /mbr' very useful (DON't try just beacuse your curious, it will wipe out your master boot record on the hard drive) When it comes to drivers it's always a hassle I agree, but most hardware should have a working XP driver by now. I don't even have a clue about mac's, they are like woman to me. I know they are great for some fun stuff, but I just don't get them “The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once!
  15. Since MS has announced that XP will be supported at leas until the end of 2012 and XP is the only (according to MHO) stabile workstation OS ever (I'm only referring to MS OS's). I can't really see the need to switch to an OS that will steal a whole lot more resources from your hardware, on top of this compatibility issues with almost everything that you can connect to you PC. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to diss anything just seeing things from a practical point of view. So go back to XP and cry a little bit less “The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once!
  16. I know that Tonfly isn't selling the mounting seperate so you will have to find another dealer for this. Skyrats located in Empuriabrava, Spain do sell this ZkullsTM quick attachment “The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once!
  17. Isn't that actually the same camera in this thread???? Oregon Scientific ATK2 Helmet Cam “The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once!
  18. Correct me if I'm wrong but, didn't DSE write something awhile ago about high def cameras having different format other than PAL / NTSC? I have a HDR-HC5 camera and I record in HD mode, however since I don't have either a HD compatible burner nor a HD TV then I just create a PAL project in my editing software. I could just as well have chosen to create a NTSC if that standard would have been the one used in Sweden where I live. “The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once!
  19. hehe... I have a car, well if you can label a Volkswagen as a car. And YES I will get on the freeway some night very soon and push the speedlimit "some" to test this. Train wouldn't be an option, beacuse all of the Swedish trains I have seen lately don't have windows that you can open “The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once!
  20. hahahahaha, now why didn't I think of that???? Well now all I have to do is find a car that can do 150mph and someone who are willing to stick my camera out the window Thanx man for your infinite wisdom. “The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once!
  21. Hey man. A question regarding the bandaid and the microphone. I have a HC5 and very often during free fall the sound are a bit funny. It's like 'cuts' into the sound, very annoying. Do you think this band aid trick might be useful for this issue to? Right now we have winter here and our plane is at service for about 3 months so I can't do any live testing myself at this time (otherwise I would have done it already). “The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once!
  22. I bought a Tonfly Diablo with a top mount cam box. It’s very comfortable and weighs only 1.6 kg with my HC5 (3.5 lbs). I chose all of the available options for this helmet, Tonfly mounted everything for me before they shipped it (CamEyeII, Newton ring sight and the box). The cut system is very simple and reliable even when loaded very high. 23. I learned my lesson when I bought a cheap ass camera box instead of going for the more expensive quality version from Cookie. Buy quality, cry once. “The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once!
  24. Damn, are you guys really that hen pecked Nope, but I do know the basics about how to keep ‘em calm. 25. My advice to you is. Ask her what she wants, the Canon or Nikon then stick by the answer no matter of what you want. This way will not come around and smack you in the back of the head. Sure you might have to buy a couple of extra lenses and stuff, but its gadgets man. You can't have too many gadgets. “The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once!
