  1. Howard,Sorry no pic's.There were some in the local news paper but didn't save them. POP
  2. I let Douglas use my 6600' runway to get the DC-9 certified for unapproved runways. The reason being that Quantus Airlines had routes to many islands with coral runways and would buy them if they could get the approval (which was granted with some limits).I was suppose tp get a jump out of it but it had to be on the QT and there were to many news people hanging around so I never did.I did get a ride though. Soon after I let Cessna use the runway for the same purpose on their Citation. They did 2 landings and wipped out the nose gear both times so packed up and went back to Wichita. POP
  3. Hi Jack, I remember your remarkable reserve ride well.Sally did the same thing out of my Beech in 11/73 while training with the ENDRUST team. They were a hardcore bunch of skydivers and great fun. However,Sally did'nt make the DZ!!! She got married instead!!!!! POP
  4. Slug, Looking through the old DZ master logs I see the date that Mark went in was 6/19/78 and it was his 7th jump, a 10sec.delay.His delay was stable until he reached for the ripcord and lost his arch causing him to roll several times, the pilot chute bridle wrapped around his ankles. He was fighting like crazy causing the main suspension lines to wrap around him,The canopy (ParaCommander) never came out of the D-bag.At around 1000' his Sentinal fired but the reserve was prevented from deploying because the main lines were around him and the reserve container (chest). He had a partial main pilot chute inflation between his legs and that was it He landed on his back in a iragation ditch with 5-6"of water and 6-8"of mud.The main was still in the bag which was under his right leg which caused the broken femur. The story has been printed in several magazines and news papers over the years.Mark has also appeared on several tv shows. POP
  5. I witnessed a student (Mark Mongello) who fell 3600' with nothing out at Indiantown,Fl 1978/9.Broken Femur and jumped again later. POP
  6. I ordered mine 2/64 and received it 6/64.1 year before your 7/65 date.I am pretty sure there were several hundred produced within that 1 year span! POP D47
  7. I know Lew Sanborn D-1 has made 49 some years back and my have made the 50th by now. POP D-47
  8. HI Kevin, I remember the day well and we never jumped at Naked Lady again! The crazy manager was Clyde Dawson whom I had trouble with before. He bought Indiantown airport and stopped all jumping there in 1986,He still owns it today and is friendly toward me when I land there!!! I was surprised at his attitude toward us that day because I had done several demos there for him free. POP D47
  9. Clyde Jacks was from Miami,Fl. and jumped at Galveston and houston,Tx.He was killed in a plane crash in 1963.I went to school with him in miami in the 40's.Quote
  10. HI,Jerry Yes, I remember Lyles answer well. What happened to all the cotton, bulky, and heavy sleeves anyway ?? POP
  11. My perferred method is stuffing the canopy as the Army does the T-10.I was using d-bags for free fall before sleeves came to the U.S.and when they did I went to the sleeve. They were free sleeves then (not tied to the canopy)and I got tiered of chasing and losing sleeves so went back to bags.Guess what we are using today!!! Most of todays jumpers have never seen a sleeve. POP D47
  12. They will both work packed in a D-bag just fine.Stuffed, stacked,or rolled.
  13. Larry, At 64 your memory must be failing! When you were at Indiantown I made my 5000th jump, not 2000th.I made it out of Bill sweets loadstar at 4500'and yes I did take it to 500' because 28 others on the load were going to try and dump me at some unknown altitude so I left early and foxed em.Also got the disk with my trusty PC.That was 12-31-1972.Some of the jumpers on the load were,Steve Snyder,Bill Ottely,Curt Curtis,Dan Poynter,John Eiff,Paul Fayard, and many other personalities. I made my 2000th at Clewiston,Fl.with most of the same jumpers present on 12-30-1965. And the rule was no bottles on board (cans only)!!! Those were the days and thanks for the memories. 14. The name change from PCA to USPA was voted in at the general membership meeting at the 1967 nationals.Think it became official 1/1/68.Norman Heaton was ex.director then.POP D47
  15. The Fat Albert at horseshoe, beach (only 8miles from my house) and cudjoe key have been closed down for at least 4years.As I think most of the others are also. The R area is still on the sectional charts though.POP D47
  16. In the Airborne we had pilot chutes (umbrella type)on chest reserves.I started free falling in 1956 and always had a pilot chute (ma-1) in my chest reserve.Of 32 chest reserve deployments I had no problems.BTW in 1961 I was reprimanded by PCA for teaching and using the cut-a-way method for reserve deployment!!! Unbelievable was'nt it....POP
  17. They are called outlaw jumps and a lot more fun.We have all done them (old timers). If someone offers me a jump from a 180 for gas I'll do it anytime! Mike is right (always tell ATC your intentions, don't ask) It's an option for the pilot to were a parachute no longer a rule.Be careful up there.POP D47
  18. Wayne,I have over 4000 jumps on the PC and never owned a sleeve.Jumped a few times with barrowed rigs that had the sleeve. The bag always gave me softer openings and packed faster. Also, less bulk.Dan Poynter's (The Parachute Manual 1st.edition)has PC packing instructions w/sleeve. POP D47
  19. ***There is no rule on what kind of log the rigger uses as long as it has the required intries are entered! POP D47

  23. WOW John! I had completely forgotten about those patches.I stated giving them out for reasons you mentioned but, it was in 1968 when the California guys did'nt believe we were doing 8 ways. POP D47
