  1. Yeah, quit doing stuff to the packjob! Let it all hang, keep things even and do a normal pro-pack. Take a pullup cord and tie the big rings of your 3-rings together to keep the risers together. This will help keep your packjob even. Now you've got to make sure your legstraps even. Not pulled to the same length (since your legs are different sizes), but tightened to the point where your 3-rings are even with your harness even. Agreed. Stopdoing weird packing voodoo stuff. I have a Crossfire 2 139 and a Velo103. The xfire2 opens like a dream. Consistantly slow and on heading, every single time. Nicest opening canopy I have ever jumped. The lines are even nearing the end of their useful lifespan. Sounds like you are just over thinking the pack job. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 2. I shove the thing in my pocket. The one thing I hate about this phone is it lacks a missed call reminder annoyance beep. My old phone beeped constantly when i had a missed call/text/message waiting, this one just sits there waiting to have me look at it. I don't know if they sell the non-3g ones anymore, but if they do, don't buy one. I hate my non-3g phone basically. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 3. If a student is incapable of maintaining proper altitude awareness without an audible altimeter, they don't belong skydiving. The thing about visual altimeters is that in most cases you can see that it is malfunctioning and revert to using your eyes to look at the ground. In the case of audibles, you don't know it isn't working until you have blown through the appropriate action altitudes. Don't get me wrong, I use one as an experienced skydiver, but in any type of learning phase I don't like the concept. I would rather not have to teach my students that "if you hear the thing screaching in your ear pull your reserve" cause it's one more thing they have to remember and I trust the AAD to keep them from hitting the ground at freefall speeds should I fail as an instructor. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 4. Another case of buying something and paying for it before you actually see it. I won't buy ANY gear period unless my rigger has inspected it. If the person isn't willing to send it to me/my dz for my rigger to look at it before I pay, I won't do business with them. I know a lot of people who have been screwed because they don't listen to that very advice. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 5. Unless it was crazy popular as a camera, I don't see how it would discontinue that soon. It has only been on the market for like a month (or less). I would imagine at least 2-3 months on the market minimum. Any less than that and I don't see how they could recoup the R&D, Tooling and Production. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 7. If anyone is flying / driving there and feels like streching your legs in southern wisconsin feel free to drop in on 57c. We'll be in our turbine season by then
  8. Right now we are looking at purchasing either individual songs at $29 a piece from stockmusic.net or picking one of their libraries. I dunno, something like that would be worth around $100 to me maybe more. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 9. Consider the fact that Obama inherited a completely FUCKED economy. Something that wasn't the case when Bush took office. The general population is feeling it right in the pocket book now. That is something that is hard for anyone to stomach. Couple that with the driving desire for instant change, something that is just not possible and not going to happen, and you might understand where a dip in poll numbers would be coming from. In the long term, thngs will most likely get better under this administration than it's non-elected alternative. Time will be the deciding factor. What will the comparison poll numbers look like 1-yr, 2-years from now and so on. Micromanagement of large scale things on a week to week basis as any "proof positive" to any one politician doing the right job or not is a complete fallacy and just a tool for those with a differing agenda to throw mud. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 10. We had 30+ people at our Safety Day in Wisconsin. The weather was beautiful. We didn't jump much though, everyone who participated in every session of safety day got a discounted jumping day in march. We would rather have them inside even though it's nice out so they can start thinking about how to stay safe! ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 11. That seems to be somewhat codec dependent too, not just CPU power dependent. I downloaded some posted footage from the CX100 (the wingsuit base footage) that simply wouldn't play using VLC. I downloaded the ffdshow codecs and the same video plays smoothly in WMP on the same hardware. Would it not play at all on VLC or would it be choppy? ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 12. I know exactly what you are referring to. After reviewing my first day of jumps using this camera, I am starting to think that this camera isn't the great skydive camera which we were hoping it was. I was originally thinking that my camera might be shaking a bit due to being top mounted using only a quick release and the one screw into the bottom of the camera. But all my video has a horrible ghosting/doubling or tripling the image. (see attached pic) Again, I thought this might be from the wind shaking the cam, but I even see this result before exit. I'm not sure this camera can handle any quick movement. Unless I have some setting set incorrectly? I didn't have steadyshot activated, but this does not appear to be something steadyshot could fix. does all your footage look like this? Cause I have seen good footage from this camera posted already for skydiving. That would leave me to believing you might be doing something wrong. Also, regarding a "jumping" issue that someone was talking about doing fast pans. I have found that my computer chokes horribly on processing it in realtime, but if I play it back on my camera (cx100) it plays fine. Leaving me to believe that its a AVCHD decoding performance issue that causes the fast pans to look a bit jumpy on computer. (i have a pretty fast computer too) ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 13. Well, I have found that kind of stuff stands out a bit more in HD video. I can't imagine you were seeing the type of jitter (constant fluttering of the image) that we have seen with the CX7 and other optical stabilized cameras. All the freefly footage I have seen so far from the cx100 has been pretty decent. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 14. Well, that is one of the topics that I am hoping to hear some feedback on from people who have been to more than one place and talked to some customers. Right now, we offer "No video" and "Video/Stills" as options. We don't offer HD or anything like that either. Our sales % is ok, but it could sure be better. I just have to wonder what is motivating them to buy or not. I dunno. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 15. Something that I saw in the presentation that DSE put up was the idea that customers don't like choosing between "Video or No video" but would rather have multiple choices of something to get. Does this lead to higher % of students buying video? What does your dz offer? Do you offer HD yet? What if you don't have anyone on that day that does HD? All digital? Still analog? Handcam? I am trying to get a feel for what people are doing. I am interested in hearing a bit more about this and some discussion on the topic. With the goal of seeing what works best and how we can present ourselves to be getting the most work we can. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 16. Ditto. Don't understood why it requires registration, so I never bothered. It requires registration (at least it was my understanding) because the site was put together on a semi volunteer / donation based system by a skydiver who isn't making money off it and a lot of the bandwidth is donated. Registration helps cut down on the random downloading. The site is meant for skydivers mostly. Or so that was my understaning. Bill, the slowmo is neat but I can't imagine it is worth the trouble. I have a CX100 in my camera bag now, have to sort out mounting and will be jumping it soon! Looks like a really nice camera! ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 19. Bump... DSE the link to your site isn't working anymore. I remember seeing some sites listed on your page that i really liked but I can't seem to remember what they are anymore. Do you still have that list somewhere? 20. Photoshop it and don't tell them exactly what you are going to photoshop on the picture. When they start comparing it to what is in the magazines, they are gonna be unhappy if you haven't done some work on the pictures! The harsh reality is that no one is shown naturally in modern media and that is the benchmark for "good" pictures of someone. Plus it's extra time checking out the pictures! 22. I have had nothing but good from UPT customer service. This is coming from someone who owns 2 of their rigs personally and is running a dropzone that uses all sigma tandem rigs. My rig came with a small D handle (I picked it) which didn't end up working for me and I was able to exchange it for shipping costs. No problem from them! UPT deals with problems faster and more thoroughly than any of the other manufacturers in my opinion. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me.
