Awsome.. I have a nephew around the same age that is obsessed with airplanes and the sky. His mom (my sister) and dad painted his room to look like he is floating in sky. Clouds on wall etc. He lives near the SDC airport and can hear/see the planes all summer. He know what they are up to also!! Kids are great!

Tiger Woods did a tandem a few weekends ago with the GKs. It was reported that he really liked it and planned on continuing, at least one more tandem. Hope he goes AFF.

Bill Booth: Skyhook availability for non-RWS systems?
ScubaSteve replied to CanEHdian's topic in Gear and Rigging
I attended a seminar at SDC a few weeks ago where Bill Booth covered the 3 rings and skyhook systems. I thought (not directly quoting Mr. Booth) that he was holding back licensing so other manufactures would not make their own version of the skyhook and would not follow design 100%. They may have problems and give the system a bad rap before it is mainstream. This is just from memory so probably not accurate. I was paying more attention to how the system worked. If anyone has a chance to sit in for one of these hour lectures, it is worth it. -

SDC Article in the Chicago Reader
ScubaSteve replied to FallingILweenie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My sister lives just south of airport but north of I80. Her neighborhood likes to spend the summers sitting in the backyard watching the sky. They feel like there is an airshow for them every weekend and dont mind what little noise they hear. Being a newbie to the sport, i have get the feeling that most at SDC are safety aware. Its too bad that they get press like this. It would have been nice to get a front page story in reader about the Spring Expo. -
SDC Article in the Chicago Reader
ScubaSteve replied to FallingILweenie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I grew up in Ottawa, IL and know that the town likes SDC there. I think the state senators are looking for a cause , as always, to make a name for themselves. Groing up there I was only aware the dropzone existed when there were world record attempts. Its is really low key locally. After College and moving to Chicago I found them there. -
I have been looking into olders stuff. Here are a few that make me think of skydiving for some reason: DefLepord - Animal ? - Kung Fu Fighting Garth Brooks - Rodeo And lots more.

It sounds like you really want to continue but having some second thoughts. You could take the AFP transition class ($30 I believe) and then decide if you are ready. I was really questioning why I am doing this my first few AFPs ad I think that is common. I only made it half way through last year and cannot wait to finish this spring. I have a friend that started with me and after AFP3 is still struggling to decide if just doing tandems is the way to go fir him. There is nothing wrong with that. We are responsible for ourselves.

I am wearing my tinfoil hat.

They have more self control than I.

All instructors there are great. I will be finishing the AFP program starting 26Mar and looing forward to it. He should call to get into a class. I think you have to schedule in advance.

You can do more. Cancel you cable and but a set of rabbit ears. Ted K. come to mind.

When will jump prices rise? Dont we all depend on oil to get us to altitude?

Start a PAC, gain lots of members, and influnce all parties. It works if you get the #s.

Tell me what went wrong with this opening
ScubaSteve replied to TheShrubber's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Could the problem be in the toss. If not tossed out far colud it slow due to burble? I can't tell from the vid, but wonder about picking vs. grab and throw. Or is that only matter with ripcords. I am a newb so I have more questions than advice. Hope to see you 26Mar at the AFP refresher Shrubber. -
I had a strage dream last night too. I was at a Unvierstiy with three friends and took note of where I parked my car. I dont remember what I did while there. I remember complaining about having to take an art type class?? When it was time for me to leave it was dark and one frined was nowhere to be found. For some reason the rest of the group just started for the car leaving one behind. When I arrived at the place I thought I parked my car it was not there. At this pont I was alone. Didnt notice at time of dream. I could see may car in the next lot and had to go though a building to get there. Once Insdie the building I could not find correct exit and became totaly disoriented. At this oint I awoke still mad that I could not make my way thoguh building to car. Not the strangest dream I've had. Anyone esle like me and when dreaming able to recongize that you are in a dream. I can also change what I am dreaming about similar to changing a channel. I visualize the old dial used before remotes turning (Cick...Click..Click..) and the subject of my dream changes. I cannot choose what i changes to..

Have your relatives come to see you skydive?
ScubaSteve replied to Vertifly's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My mother, sister, and nephew have visited DZ. My nephew (2 yrs old) loved the place. He watched a few swoopers land and it stuck with him. When he hears a plane he starts yelling " mom.... they're jumpin" then starts hopping around yard. Poor kid! -
I looked down on exit and went unstable on a level 5AFP. I just arched like a mother and rolled right back over. It really helped my confidence and trust in the arch.

Skydiver afraid of heights. Friends tease without mercy.
ScubaSteve replied to Brian425's topic in The Bonfire
Sounds like you are not afriad of heights but afraid of being so close to the ground. -
That song about Stacy's mom.
