Well, the Raven 2 would be lightly loaded if i did have to go to it. It is the set up this rig has. With the 190 main, I would probably be loading about 1:1 full clothed and equiped. So, with the Raven2 I would be less than 1:1. Thanks for the advice. Chris ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty

Thanks all. I haven't seen many deals out there and I liked this one. I just wasn't sure if this was the catch. I am going to have it inspected by my rigger!!!! Chris ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty

Riggers: Should someone buy a used reserve with 2 jumps?
storm1977 replied to storm1977's topic in Gear and Rigging
I just posted in talk back, but I wanted to here from some riggers. I am looking into a container, res, main, and cypress as a package deal. The reserve has 2 jumps on it. Am I better off finding one with 0 jumps, or is this one OK. How amny reserve rides is it usually good for? I hear many people get rid of them after 5 or 6 reserve rides. If you were buying used gear, would you still buy the reserve if it had 2 jumps on it? Chris ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty

Well, there is an offer out there for a Tri 190 with only 2 jumps on it (the guy jumping it quit after 2 jumps) for $1K. I am thinking that is a good deal. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty

I didn't want to post in incidents, because I don't know if there was one. Was there a fatality in MA or New England this weekend? My parents said they caught something on the news, but didn't know where it happened or what had happened. Has anyone here had a triathlon chute? I have heard conflicting statements about them. I have heard they open very softly, and I have heard they tend to open very hard. What has been your experience? Obviously there are differences depending on how it is packed, but, do they tend to have hard openings? Thanks drew!!! I've got the dark Jumpsuit and the altimeter. I am glad I got the ass and legs black on the suit!!! Had one nice down wind, and a couple of late flares!!!! Thanks for the advice, now the seach is on. I have only been looking for a few days, but i get the feeling this is going to be about as fun as it was to find a one bedroom apt in Long Island. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty

Yeah, that's the way it usually is...student rigs are not usually freefly friendly. Take their advice because a premature deployment when you are stading and going 200mph is going to hurt you and the gear. And that would mean some time without jumping. I am new too, and am interested in FF, however, it is really good to learn your belly skills too. It is one of those thing you should know and become proficient at. So, take your next 20 or so jumps and chalk them up to experience. If you can try and do some 2way belly jumps with someone other than an instructor. It is amazing to see how much of a difference it is jumping with someone that has 100 jumps vs. 5000 jumps. You will very quickly notice that during your coached jumps, your instructor was doing most of the work not you. My first few RW jumps made me realize how tough it was to fall at the same speed as someone else. Good luck and blue skies. My airline trip with carryon gear...
storm1977 replied to SkySlut's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You are completely right Kev. When it comes to thing like this people tend to get a bit angry and start ranting about their rights. But, the truth is that flying is not a right, driving is not a right they are infact privledges. If one agrees to fly, then they need to know that they, or their belongings may be scrutinized. If you don't like it, don't fly. However, if the TSA shoves a probe up your ass looking for bombs, well then, there could be a "RIGHTS" problem. I got some suggestions from friends, and tell me what you think... First off, I am not one to "Hot dog" it in this sport, and I don't think i ever will be. I view the canopy ride as a safe way to get me down, not as part of the excitement of skydiving. At my current level, I know I can handle a 190, and in a year or two w/some experience maybe I will want to drop to a 170, but i won't be downsizing beyond that for many years to come if at all. But who knows... A friend recommended getting a NEW rig, and a used main, reserve, and (cypress new or used). The reasoning is that the container will be costum fit to me. We all know what rented gear is like, or a rig that doesn't fit exactly right. I could get a rig where a 190 would be the upper limit, and it would allow me to drop to a 170 in a couple years. Money is obviously an issue, but renting gear on every jump cost $$$ too. I figure after 120 jumps renting, I have already payed for a used rig. Ok, I am now finally starting to look for my first rig. There seems to be so many options and opinions out there, and I am not really sure who or what to go with. I have looked up sizes, and it is just too damn confusing. I am looking for a 190 Zerop main, and 170 res. I weigh about 170 and I am 5'8". A little help... Obviously there is going to be alot of opinions out there, so some suggestions on what NOT to buy would help, but I also what to here some recommendations. Thanx. UN seeking to regulate small arms sales in the US
storm1977 replied to PhillyKev's topic in The Bonfire
That is not true. The US government has only One real function, and that is the protection of the american people. The fact that the US gov helps with schools, and medical care etc... is just a bonus. People assume the Government owes us something (aside from protection). They don't!! Now the UN was designed as a world organization of protection, representation, and relief. This is why they were ineffective in all areas. It did not do so in this instance. It had no roll in the Bay of Pigs. the Hungarian invasion, or Tenneman Square, it did nothing to avert the Cuban missile crisis though the subject was debated there, it failed to reduce tensions between Croations and Serbs in Kosovo, and above all has done nothing to support the Cechnians in Russia or freedom fighters anywhere. What has it ever done that makes its expensive continuance worth our while. Even when we succeed in our quest to be a nation, the U N will do nothing but grant us a seat in their ineffective chamber, after the fact. Most new nations have been deluded by this honor and have spent more money belonging to it than achieving anything through it. We should save our time, our energy, our breath our health and our money and set an example by boycotting it. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty -
UN seeking to regulate small arms sales in the US
storm1977 replied to PhillyKev's topic in The Bonfire
No, I truely don't care what there goals are, that is not why it is bogus. It is bogus because it is an ineffective entity which wastes too much time ond money. The concept of the UN is a good one. The output from the UN is poor. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty -

Sorry guys... USPA can't help you here. I have been at NY TRACON, and NY CENTER during many of these presidential "trips" . This much I can tell you. The FAA will not let up on this one. And, don't even try to take off. The 4 F-16's will be on you like flies on shit. There are exceptions to the rule, but there is no way it will be a jumpship that is let through. There is talk in the FAA though to drop those resrictions to 20nmi. We will just have to wait and see. UN seeking to regulate small arms sales in the US
storm1977 replied to PhillyKev's topic in The Bonfire
Your comment about the US not paying it's dues is fucking stupid!!!! We put a boatload more money into the UN than anyother country. Oh, and by the way how much do you thing the repairs to the UN building are going to cost the USA (not the UN) next year????? I will give you a hint around ohhh about a billion dollars. What % of the financing came from the US in Kosovo? What % of the financing came from the US in the first Gulf war. Why does the US supply 70% of the food for the UN's world food program? Don't give me the bullshit attitude that we started are own problems with the UN. It is a fucking bogus organization. And without the US paying "most" of the expenses, the UN wouldn't even exist. We are doing them a favor!!!! ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty -

storm1977 replied to PhillyKev's topic in The Bonfire
All the more reason to get the Fuck out of the UN, and to kick the UN out of the USA. What good are they really? Do you think single gun ownership in the US or other countries is the biggest concern the UN should have? This is just stupid.... I hate the UN almost as much as I hate the ACLU!!!!! ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty -
Recession.............................Economy.. Hmm.....??
storm1977 replied to rhino's topic in The Bonfire
I don't know how much it cost, but the US supplies 70% of the food for the World food supply program. Maybe we could use that food to feed our own people, and stop spending it on everyone else. As far as the more economical cars... well, that is an individual choice, that probably won't go over big in a country like the US. Rhino is right, when gas price went up, sales of SUV's didn't go down. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
