    I had a knot in the bridle once on a bm-skydive. Although nothing happened, I'm not too keen to experience that in base. Does anybody know what exactly has happened to Cold Steel?   3. I can only guess, but maybe it's because you can't put the velcro on the spandex. An easy way to avoid this would be placing the velcro beneath the pouch.

  5. See the attached picture. This is the flight path from my last jump on La Mousse. First x is where I pulled, second x is where I landed. 20-25 sec flight, 5 sec canopy. Going straight, I think I would have hit the wall - on the other side of the valley! (edited to upload)
  6. I just read the thread on how to install the shrivel-tube for the base-pc-pouch. Obviously none of the posters have understood the principles of a shrivel-flap/-tube. As the name says, it is designed to shrivel when pulled in a certain direction, more precise when pulled parallel to itself and therefore parallel to the velcro. You need a lot of force to peel off a velcro when you pull it parallel to itself while you need only little force when you pull it at a 90° angle. Shrivel-flaps were invented for velcro-closed base-rigs to ensure a consistent force needed to open the container, even when deploying in a head-down position. When you deploy out of full flight in your wingsuit, the pull of the bridle will be somewhat parallel to the velcro on the pouch, thereby increasing the force needed to pull it off if the bridle had the velcro sewn onto it. That's why you use the shrivel-tube. But it will only work if you stitch it ONLY to the top. If you stitch it to the bottom or both ends it will not shrivel. You could just as well sew some velcro on the bridle. It will finally work, but the force needed will vary with the pull-angle and condition of the velcro and you will loose valuable altitude. When I look at the thread "pull altitudes" and think about where you guys are pulling, this might not be so important when skydiving, but in base this will ruin your day. Another thing about the pouch: I always use the base-pouch when I fly with my S3, even out of a plane, because I want to have 1 location for my pc. It has happened to me once that the pc came out while backflying. Be aware of the fact that this not a spandex pouch and check that the pc is well in the pouch before exit. I have to admit that I might not have checked well on this particular jump, but since then I check very well and have noticed that the pc tends to come out by itself. And yes, I do make a very nice pc-pack-job.
  7. I use the wedge too and yes, it is great. Just one note: on the 1 fast spinner I had, my risers were so badly twisted that my head was pushed down and forward so much that I couldn't read the mudflap-mounted alti anymore. Guessing the altitude by looking at the earth didn't work neither because I was spinning like a mf. I ended up chopping by feel (when I felt I had burned off enough altitude ).   8. I mounted an alti on my mudflap only for ws-flying. I don't want to let go my wing just to look at the alti. I can see no downsides. Even if it is a little incorrect, who cares?
  9. I fly a s3, a CF 89 and dump at 2500. Had a fast spinner once, tried to repair it for a while, then chopped and landed with no problems. When I jump my Mojo I pull a little higher than without the suit

  11. I know and like the maneuver you described and I do it with my S3. But there's no way I will do it around 1000 ft. It eats up so much altitude, you would just go in. (1000 ft = bridge with which Dwain collided). Besides that you can dive with a suit.

  13. If the Nitron is the same than the Nitro from HiPer-Canopies then I've jumped both at a 1.8 wingload. Totally different canopies. I liked the XF a lot more because it has a longer natural recovery arch and you can keep it in the dive with risers for a long time. The Nitro really wants to come out of the dive and I couldn't go for a nice smooth 270 just because riser pressure build up so much. I felt I had to make low, snapping turns to avoid the riser pressure (and that was with the 88). With the XF on the other side I could start a 270 at 800 ft very smoothly and make it dive more and more, always controlling it with risers. Openings on the XF are a cake also. Did wingsuit-flying (with a s3) as well as camera with it. I might be buying one. Actually the only reason I didn't till now is that I want to try a Velo some more, but I just can't get a demo (here in germany). I didn't make as many jumps on the Nitro, but I think it has a better glide in brakes. This is surely true for the Blade, the new HiPer canopy. The low speed flight is what impressed me most about those canopies, but then again I'm more into canopies that can DIVE. Side note to GeeeeeeFly: I think the XF flies a lot more like a stiletto than the Nitro does. The XF has nicer openings and longer dives than the Stiletto, but in the end is quite similar while the Nitro is a very different canopy. Very different design also. Obi
  14. I'ld be glad if I had to worry about this. In most places I've jumped (and that is quite a lot of places all over the planet), the majority of the people just land like in a freaking ZOO. Keep your eyes open and don't expect anyone to stick to a pattern. Besides that I do the left hand pattern, but finish it off with a right 270 because I think that is the way that goes the most with the flow. Obi
  15. Hmm, if that is really the case then it's not interesting for me. But can't you keep in a dive? I mean, if you go for a front-riser/body turn and keep it in the dive by pulling down the second riser, how long can you hold it? Is it possible to start way high?

  17. I started WS-flying this summer. I directly bought a S3 and made my first-ever suit-jumps on it. I am totally happy with the suit and happy that I didn't take a less performing one. I recently started base-flying it and again, I am totally happy with the performance the suit delivers. I think it really comes down to one's overall flying skills. Like you, I have about 2500 jumps. I do freeflying, rw, tandems, camera, base and even throw tricks off cliffs. With that experience under my belt, jumping the S3 was not a problem. BUT: it is a serious suit. You have to learn how to fly it if you're looking for maximum performance. Since I have it, 99 % of my funjumps have been with the suit. Which is not a problem neither because I totally fell in love with it and flying my suit is all I wanna do
  18. I have no idea if and where and who and whatsoever, but I've heard about an accident where somebody had his slider under his chin/in his mouth and it came off and up right on final. I think the idea is pretty scary and I wouldn't put it there. Obi

    Hmm, maybe we're not talking about the same here. If I would want to flare a suit before opening I would do it like this: Go full speed through the entire flight, then flatten out the flight and thereby transform energy into lift until the point where you start to drop again. Once done this, go for a normal pull with collapsed wings. While I think that you should be able to gain a little distance without loosing too much altitude, I see the problem of the weaker airflow maybe resulting in the pc not inflating properly and fast enough, that's why I've never tried it. But that is actually my question: is it really a problem that you're moving slower? The airflow is weaker, but isn't therefore the burble smaller? If you flare a suit for 2 secs you loose both forward and downward speed (first you will loose more downward speed). If you then throw and collapse your wings, would the pc have more problems getting out of your (smaller) burble? P.S. As we're talking about base here, collapsing the wings for a couple of secs is not an option. I'm talking about pulling out of full flight vs pulling after a 2 sec flare.

  24. Hi, I'm planning to buy a new rig soon. Just demoed a Velocity at 2.0 and liked it, but I didn't do enough jumps to be able to tell if I would want to jump it with my wingsuit. Of course the best would be to demo some more and just fly it with my WS, but I just can't get a hold of one anymore. I know that Jari is flying with one, but are there some more people with that combination? Some very experienced WS-flyers told me that they would never even consider it, but then again I did quite some WS-flying with a Crossfire loaded at 1.9 and felt ok (still, I had to chop it once due to twists that went into a spinner....). Thanx for your input. Obi
