    Which gear?

I have the same faith in my tried and tested P Pro / Mojo and I pull just as low with it. Still, as technology advances, I want to know what else is there when I look for new stuff. The rig is quite easy to choose, I like the idea of a flat rig for the ws. I once got my hands on a Gargoyle and it looked really nice - I guess they put the same quality into the WSX. But when it comes to canopy-choice it gets much harder. First decision is vented vs non-vented: for big walls and ws I surely don't need to go vented, but I do other stuff as well, so it might be nice to have the vents. What is the experience with wingsuits and vented canopies? Are the openings ok or too hard? What about terminal tracking? I'm quite sure I don't want zp topskin, that's what I meant with "designed for low stuff". Then there are some newer airfoils. Everybody is speaking about the Troll and I hear only good things about it from the people jumping it. But most of these people have never jumped other canopies and I remember seeing a couple of very nasty openings some years ago. I also remember some old posts by Tom where he very much discourages the use of non-MDV-Trolls because of unpredictable openings. Maybe they have adressed this problem at Atair, I don't know, that's why I'm asking here. I also hear that the Troll has quite high forward speed. How does it behave when you dial in your brake-settings so it doesn't move too much after opening? Do the openings stay clean? I hear very different things about the Ace. Some really like it, some others say it tends to open off-heading. What's with that? What about the Black Jack? Or the Flik? I don't want the Fox V-tech, I saw quite a couple of it and I think the flare sucks. Thanks for any input. Obi

    Which gear?

Well, of course I won't go Velcro... I thought about the WSXtreme. Any experience here? What about all the new canopies? Troll? With MDV? Flik? Black Jack? The list is long. Tom, as far as I know you have quite some experience with different canopies. What do you think suits my needs best? Of course any other input is apreciated as well

    Which gear?

Hi all, I'm thinking about getting some new gear and so I'm looking for some advice. Usually I just jump the stuff I have, so I don't really know the rest that's on the market, especially the new stuff. I mostly jump big cliffs, very often with my wingsuit, so I don't need stuff especially designed for low jumps. I was told there are some wingsuit-rigs out now - does anyone have experience with them? I think a canopy should have - on-heading, soft openings ("soft" is relative... I just don't like brutal openings) - low forward speed and good slow-flight-characteristics (more important to me than good glide ratio) - good flare as well as the ability to sink it in Thanks for your input, Obi
  4. Any info on how people lost their toggles? Brake fire on opening or lost out of their hands after releasing? In first case, properly installed? In second, what kind of toggles?
  5. Very nice! I love the visuals flying alongside a wall... BTW I discovered that you get better compression and better quality with WM9

  11. Hey Mick, I have used Blinc for years and so I immediately went over to try it after your post. I asked for a new password and got the screen saying it was send to me. Nothing came. I did it a couple times more, nothing happened. I tried different mail-adresses but they weren't recognized. I then tried your contact-form on Blinc to ask for help but never got an answer. I then emailed you directly using all your mail-adresses I could find (quite a few) and again never got an answer. Honestly, I really don't like it when I get zero reaction.
  12. I just read in an austrian skydiving magazine about a skydiver who was hit by a bullet in freefall, actually during separation from a 20-way. It was found that a guy had shot at the formation with his rifle...

Does anyone know where I can check the times for the ferry from Stavanger to Lysebotn? I've been told there's a fast and a slow one?

    fatality in switzerlannd

Andi K. from Austria, 26 y., ~300 plane- and ~30 Base-jumps. It was his 2nd jump that day and his 2nd jump from the Nose. He jumped straight, tracked, opened at around 200 m off the ground (half-way down the face), had a 180 and hit the cliff 3 secs later. There was zero wind. From what I've been told it was his first off-heading opening. He died immediately on impact. My condolences for his family and friends. A very sad day.
  17. Just because you said that you can watch your pc leave in an angle: I strongly advice especially newbies not to watch their pc. A friend of mine new to ws-flying managed to do what I thought is impossible (because you just don't do what he did)... After throwing the pc he felt a hesitation. So he looked for his pc... Because he was still moving forward, by doing so he managed to do a roll and flip into the opening. Got both hands trapped in the risers, wings still attached and therefore a lot of pull forces on the hands. Couldn't get them out while he was spinning down like a mf Finally got his hands out, chopped and had a somewhat shortish reserve-ride... Now, I personally jump a very hp-canopy even with my suit, but I surely never watch the pc, not even the opening. Why should you? Throw hard, concentrate on a good position and watch the horizon once the opening starts.
  18. After the discussions on how to avoid object strike and how to set up your canopy (http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1098618;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread linking to http://www.blincmagazine.com/forum/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=12&topic_id=1167&mesg_id=1167&listing_type=search), I thought I'll ask Adam to share some of his knowledge with us to help people to set up their gear right. I was specifically asking for the DBS. Here is his answer, enjoy

    Norway this summer

I'm planning to finally go to the wonderful big walls of Norway this summer. As I have never been there, it would be really nice to get in contact with some local jumpers beforehand. I'm also looking for some info on the sites. Of course I have checked basekjerag.com, but I would really like to also go to the other, less known big walls. Any info is appreciated and if there are some locals who want to come fly with me that would be fantastic. To start with: when would be the best time? Who is coming when? I'm thinking about end of july/beginning of august. Obi
  20. >> most people in panic situation revert back to muscle memory, reach for boc. on base jump, you would have gone in looking for hackey >> Sorry man, but this is bullshit. If you went back to what you know you would go in trying to grab your pc from the boc - the wing is hiding it. If you want to grab your pc from boc you have to totally change your grabbing move (at least with a S3). The pouch is located a little further down, but the move is smoother and faster and there's no wing in the way. You're right that you should be used to the location of the pc, but the solution is to get used to the pouch. I wouldn't jump boc in base. As for the fluttering: I don't have that problem and I use a S3 with BM 28" pc and 10 ft bridle. But I think that the 28" pc is very loose in the pouch and therefore don't do things like back-flying when the pc is in there. For those moves I go back to boc. I can imagine that your pc is sneaking out a little bit and then starts to flutter. I always check that it is well inside the pouch just prior to exit. If you want to fly in base you can't make the pouch smaller since you want a bigger pc (38) in base.
  21. On my old rig (Vector 3, Stiletto 120) I always packed the pod SLIGHTLY rotated (grommet 45° up front) and had fine results even without cut corners. On my new rig (Atom 0000 with CF 89) I cut the corners so there are sewn together only 1/2 inch from the bottom. Due to the wedge-shape of the main-tray and the pod it's impossible though to rotate it. But I just started jumping it, so I have no data yet. Anyway, I think it has a lot to do with how you deploy. If you change the angle of your body in the air you also change the angle at which the pod comes out of the tray.
  22. Hmm, emailing the organizers asking for infos doesn't help and the links on the "english version" always point back to russian pages, so: what do you get for 500$ entry fee?
