Freeflyers start off with more speed and an already flat body position. Belly fliers start of in an arch at a far slower speed. It takes a couple more seconds to get into a good hard track. I have 50/50 of each. It's much easier for me to track off from a head down position.... and a lot more fun. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

That is what I was getting at Derek. There is some myth out there that the chest strap should be loose to accomodate an arch. I'm pretty sure none of us teach a student to arch with the chest. Put your rig on. Make your chest strap snug. Now arch with your hips. As far as I can tell, it does not interfere at all with a good strong arch through the hips. I see the biggest problem is when an AFF-I is jumping with a smaller student. Slender or a small gril. Their own fear of going low makes them focus on the student arching. They tend to keep that chest strap loose. Well guess what? With the slender and smaller students in particular, there should be NO slack in the chest strap. ESPECIALLY the girls with the big boobs and small frame. The chest strap may appear snug over the breasts, but can easily slip over the shoulders. Have you ever seen a student walking in from the field with a shoulder strap hanging off the shoulders? If so, the potential of them falling out through the shoulder straps exsists. This has always been a pet peive of mine. And after this weekend, I think I'll be a bit more vocal. AFF students pull in all sorts of fucked up body positions. Including head low, on their backs, etc. Please make sure their harness can accomodate an opening in any body postion. That's it. Thanks for listening if you made it this far! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

How many AFF-Is gear up their students with a fairly loose chest strap with the theory that the student needs room to arch? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

A two pin has, well, 2 pins. The Racer container system is designed with 2 reserve pins on one cable. It distributes the tension over two pins to minimize hard pulls that could be inherant with an external pop top. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Based on the limited info you provided, I feel a 170 or a 190 would be okay. You can choose if you want to take the more conservative route or push it a bit. Consider this. Are you going to be jumping on a regular basis? Will you be on hold for winter? If the answer is yes, consider a good used 190 in a rig that will also house a 170. Then when spring arrives and you are putting some jumps on the 190, trade it out for the 170. What you want to avoid is just getting off student status, then having to go on a winter hold and coming back uncurrent on the smaller canopy. Too many variables. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Technically Byron is the closest. But your friend will find a smorgasborg of friendly DZs in Nor Cal. Loads of talent and coaches to jump with at most of the drop zones. I would recommend trying them all on to see which one fits! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Peel. Punch. Peel. Punch. And it doesn't take a second to peel. The peel punch is almost one smooth move. I honestly didn't feel the difference at that critical time. You just get the shit out when you need to. I've had 5 on D rings and 3 on pillows. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

selling used gear, buying new, what to do with old AAD?
GravityGirl replied to The111's topic in Gear and Rigging
It's not difficult for a buyer/new jumper to buy their own AAD new or used to put in your container. In my experience, AAD or no AAD doesn't make or break a the deal. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! -

If you are buying a 190 sq ft main parachute you should consider a reserve of the same or similar size. A 143 is a good three sizes smaller than your main. When you need to call on your reserve, you will be opening it lower than you are used to, your heart rate will be higher than normal and your decision time will be reduced. Not the time to decide if you are ready for a 143. There are a lot of used gear choices. Please don't compromise safety for what seems to be a good deal. Inappropriate skydiving equipment is NEVER a good deal. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

You can PM me or any other Gear Dealer to start your search for used gear. Often time when a customer buys all new gear, I'll list or sell their current container system for them. Rigs in the size of 190 and 170 mains rarely even make it to my web site, as they sell right away. These are the most popular sizes in my experience. Find out what size canopies you will need. Then take some measurements to find out what size harness you will need. That will help you determine the fit of a rig sight unseen. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
