California on the verge of electing its first black governor
headoverheels replied to brenthutch's topic in Speakers Corner
What is stopping companies from building more homes apartments condos? Not enough demand? NJ real estate taxes are double that of California. -
Edit: might have been in poor taste.

He got off the ventilator and out of the ICU 6 days ago. I haven't seen an update since then.

At a school meeting regarding masks, things get a bit demonstrative.

Interesting, easy to read paper regarding transmission: http://science.sciencemag.org/content/373/6558/eabd9149.full Figure 3 shows how long aerosols can linger as a function of size. Figure 5 shows distribution of where aerosols inhaled will be deposited.

A cougar went into a bar in Austin, Texas, and saw a cowboy with his feet propped up on a table. He had the biggest boots she had ever seen. The older lady asked the man " is it true what they say that men with big feet are well endowed?". The man grinned and said.. "Sure is little lady why don't you come to my apartment and let me prove it to you?". The lady considered she might never get an offer like this again and was curious to find out for herself so she spent the night with him. The next morning she handed him $100 bill. Blushing he said "Well thank you, I'm really flattered...no one has ever paid me for my 'services' before!". "Don't be flattered" she replied. "Take the money and buy yourself boots that fit ".

Humans are not supposed to eat that. They aren't even supposed to eat meat of horses treated with that.

Maybe we should have a thread for best covid memes.

Here is an interesting thread on waning immunity: https://twitter.com/jburnmurdoch/status/1429878189011111936 I don't have a twitter acct, and after a while (number of pages) on another thread I was unable to click on a linked thread or page -- opening in an incognito window got around that roadblock. This is the other one I read: https://twitter.com/EricTopol

A left wing blogger I follow on youtube had an interesting take. Of the four presidents who were in office, he places the most responsibility on Obama, since Obama is the smartest of the four and did little to address the situation.

A lot of what I hear/read is like this: It's not that I oppose opening the door, it's that I oppose the *way* we opened the door. I would simply have gotten all of the bowls out beforehand.

AZ governor says he will withhold new federal school grants to public schools from those with mask mandates. You money or your life. https://www.azfamily.com/news/arizona_schools/gov-ducey-announces-grant-funding-for-schools-following-all-state-laws/article_20f9467c-ff90-11eb-94d9-b7b9114749f3.html Reportedly, Ducey's offspring attend a private school with mask mandates in place.

California governor recall election
headoverheels replied to headoverheels's topic in Speakers Corner
Typo? $215M is the lowest estimate I have seen. -
This has been going on for months. Most insurance plans have a maximum out of pocket, so unlikely to get hit with $35k. Here is an article from earlier this year on ending waivers: https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/some-health-insurers-ending-waivers-covid-treatment-fees-n1265422

Well, we have a jungle rules recall election coming up in 4 weeks. For the non-natives, there are two questions. 1. Should the governor be recalled? 2. If 1 passes, who should be elected? There are ~46 people running, and only a plurality is required to win, so in theory someone could win with 3% of the vote. It seems unlikely to be more than 20% for the winner. The field of candidates is by and large weak, and the forerunner says that there should be no minimum wage, that employers should ask potential female hires when they might get pregnant, and is a climate change denier. There is no way that electing any of the 46 will be an overall improvement. On a lighter note, here is one candidate getting served with a subpoena during a debate:

I hear that they could inject a semiconductor chip along with the vaccine, that could just be quickly scanned.
-
And he gets an injection of Regeneron, at a cost to taxpayers of thousands of dollars. Because masks send the wrong message.

Sydney Powell didn't say "release the Kraken." She said "release the crack head." -
And don't get hit with a hurricane.

In case you are interested in reading legal complaint/indictment papers, here is a site with the cases related to January 6th. https://www.justice.gov/usao-dc/capitol-breach-cases Sorting by date shows arrests as recent as today. -
Probably accelerated by the corruption allegations.
