My guess on the battery thing is that you could make an explosive device that looks like a battery. If it's attached to a camera, they make you turn it on to show it's not a fake. I ran into problems one time with a laptop with a dead battery. Couldn't turn it on to show the A** at the checkpoint. Worked out ok after about 10 minutes... illegible usually

For me - Yes, and sometimes: If the kid is napping on the DZ couch or at the grandparents house. We also drive places in the same car. BTW: I consider anyone that has 6 kids to be selfish. Based on the information given in the example, I would doubt it. While it is clearly the pilot's responsibility to not allow a drunk to jump, there is no way the pilot could have known this jumpers condition. illegible usually

And of course, how you do each activity. The way I normally drive (small car, very fast - on a lot of very winding 2 lane roads) my chance of getting hurt in a crash is much higher than SoccerMom who drives her station wagon to the store in the burbs. Likewise a jumper that wingloads 3/1 and swoops is more likely to get hurt than the same jumper loaded at 1:1 (unless he's doing CRW maybe) Just shows once again that statistics are good for mathmaticians and politicians and aren't worth much to an individual.
