  1. I started jumping when my oldest was about 5 month's old. I now have 2 kids, and they are growing up to think that skydiving is just something everybody does. Some dads play golf, some dads fish, their dad skydives. As far as insurance, I have enough to take care of my business, and my family in the event that I die. I have good medical coverage in case of an accident. The only insurance I have not found, and would like to, is some sort of income protection service to cover me if I was out of work due to an accident. All that I have found excludes skydiving. I am pretty much an every weekend jumper, and still sneak in the occasional weekday jump. When the kids have a soccer game or something, I try to take the day off from jumping to spend with them. I do tandems at the DZ, and they know that if things are busy, dad has to "work", but if times are slow, I take the time to make it to the games. It's not a normal marriage, for the wife and I, but it works fo us. Ganja
  2. In larger aircraft, I leave there seatbelt on until it's hookup time typically. In the case of "straddle benchs", I undo it when up jumpers are undoing theres, typically 1000', and I go ahead and hook up the lower connectors at that point, leaving them loose. In a 182, I leave the seat belt on until hookup no matter what. It's scary enough if the door gets bumped open or something, much less if they have no since of security. Ganja
  3. I have the harness ready for hook up before boarding the aircraft. Once we're at 11,000 or so, I start my connections, and the harness is double checked, but already snug. Ganja
  4. I load mine much higher than that, and have never had a problem with it. Mine is a 181 Dash MZ. What service bulletin? Did it affect certain model numbers? Wondring now if something might should be looked at... Ganja

It appears this was your first jump, tell us more. What type of object? What type of deployment? What were you feeling at the top, and then at the bottom? I'e only got 5 in now, the last of which was a B on Saturday night. IT had been a couple of months since I had jumped before that. I'm hooked all over again! Ganja
  6. I'm just a baby, so take my post with a grain of salt, but... I weigh in at 260 currently, thats my weight, not exit weight. I bought the biggest thing I could find, a FLiK 322. While I only have 5 jumps on it, it seems to treat me pretty well. Ganja
  7. Well, most of us only have rip cord on our reserves, and I don;t usually pull that until about 1500' I throw my main pilot chute out at about 3000'-3500' on average. Ganja
  8. And all my friend like to drink beer, so that's a good idea too. Ganja "Any color bottles will do" Rodriguez
  9. No use pressuring anyone, it's something they have to want to do. I don't even bother asking people anymore, if they want to jump, they'll let you know. We all go through a spell of telling everyone we know when we first start jumping, I find that the less I mention it, the more they do. I have a few pics hanging in my office, I get a ton of people asking "Is that you" they could have given a rats ass less if I had bombarded them with the "Wanna touch me" speach... Ganja
  10. The better question would be what WILL you do for a jump ticket.... lol Ganja
  11. Is that line under the cutter head, or just folded over the top of it? Wither way, the line is out of place, but it looks like it would be almost difficult to get wrapped around the cutter without trying to do it. Ganja
  12. Would it have worked, Most likely it would have worked if the CYPRES had fired or not. Would I want the slim possibility of it not working on my back? Hell no. No one could sit here and say for sure that it would work, anything is possible, but chances are pretty favorable of it going un-noticed in a deployment. Ganja
  13. The socks are pretty kick'n, thanks for pointing those out, I honestly hadn't noticed them. I can;t figure out why I didn't see them. Ganja
  14. If I can't die on your time, why don't you drag your sorry @$$ down here and help me open this puppy up! Ganja "If no more kids is a side affect, so be it" Rodriguez
  15. Personally, I don't like having to climb my fat ass up anything, but you boys won't take me to an elevator yet... I will admit that the stairs in the B were'nt that bad, to this day, I close my eyes and count me feel my way up every stairwell though. Ganja
  16. Small triangular with an outside climb. Looks like pegs up each side of the triangle, and a crows nest type platform at the top. Ganja
  17. Anything I should know about cell phone towers in general? I'm looking at a 299 foot freestander. Any advice?
  18. I think you should celebrate by making sure I'm on the load...lol Hmm, in April, it might be warm enough to finally get some of us baby's that E, you could help 3 of us at least, spell BASE for YOUR 500th... Let's hook up and get to working on both of our jump numbers... Ganja
  19. Seriously, I think the main factor is that you had this insurance prior to skydiving. Everything I purchased has been since skydiving. The first policy was right after my first jump, and was part of a business buyout agreement. Ganja
  20. I think buying a new BASE rig, pushed me into the 5-10 bracket, but does BASE really count as skydiving expenses? If not, I'm under 5. I spend very little miney on jump tickets anymore, I work most of that off as a Tandem Master. Most of money would be spent on travelling and boogies and such. Ganja
  21. I downsized about every 200 jumps in the beginning, it slowed down to every 400 as I got closer (and over) 2:1 Keep in mind, I'm not reccomending that, just answering your question. As far as what I'd reccomend, Be as familiar as at all possible with any canopy you jump. Know how it will react in every possible scenarios you can think of putting it in. Until you're proficient with every aspect of that canopy, you should not even consider a downsize. In this sport today, most of us downsize too fast, never truly learning everything there is to know about the canopy we are already jumping. I think the idea of "looking cool" pushes too many people into buying smaller and samller gear too quickly, but hey, what do I know.... Ganja "Waiting for a Life Flight never looks cool" Rodriguez
  22. I've never had a health insurance carrier question it, but so long as it isn't obvious, I wouldn't mention how I broke my leg if it ever came up... Accidental Death and Dismemberment, and supplemental policies like those, always ecluded a litst of hobbies from what I've seen, including skydiving, motor vehicle racing, etc... Life Insurance, I have had trouble getting. I have two policies right now, both of which cover my skydiving, and both of which I pay a rider for skydiving. Being a married man, father of two, and a medium sized business owner, I have to carry life insurance. It's expensive, but the peace of mind is worth it. Being worth more to my wife dead than alive is a whole nother issue though. I try to keep her away from my rigger. Ganja
