    Turkey Boogie

Tom, If jumping is legal there, why is it necessary to keep names quiet? I mean the sign that mentions BASE jumping in the parking lot actually helped us to find the popular frozen pizza area... Just curious as to why the hush hush in that area. Ganja

    Turkey Boogie

Well, I have been planning the trip since Memorial Day, but a sudden run in with a tree last weekend seems to be a wrinkle in my plans. I was out riding dirt bikes with the kids when I missed a turn a hit a tree dead on. I'm laid up with broken ribs, broken vertbras and a busted up shoulder (not sure what all is busted in it yet). Have fun out there, and if I am feeling up to it, I may still make the trip just for the scenery. Ganja
  3. Lee, looks like you may have gotten those ESP skills down finally. As I now have an excuse... This past weekend, I decided to tackle a tree head-on with my dirt bike. I am currently laid up with broken ribs, broken vertebras and a busted up shoulder. I can't type much more right now, Ganja
  4. Shrek, who started that rumor? Looks to me like you just made it up... I have croonies? Ganja "Get that croonie off me" Rodriguez

    Opps . . .

On our last trip out to the potatoe bridge, Jalisco and I both forgot to remove them. Mine went through the screening without any questions, they re-scanned his and pulled out. The supervisor knew what he was looking at and stated that it was designed not to hurt anyone and put it right back and sent him on his way. His is a nice one, mine is a cheapo that BR sent with my rig, the tip of mine could easily be knocked off to create a make shift boxcutter... 6. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why anyone would not want a pin check before exiting the aircraft. At my home DZ, everyone is pretty anal about getting them checked and I like that. At another DZ that I frequent, most of the jumpers there do not want anyone else checking their gear. I personally feel strongly about a simple pin check just prior to exit. If someone else climbs out with a pin that is not seated properly they put everyone on that plane in danger. There are just too many things that can go wrong, get bumped, wahtever, to not make my life not worth you getting a pin check.... Ganja "Off the soapbox" Rodriguez
  7. I'm sure attendance for the women's record will double thanks to that announcement... Ganja
  8. I sure am glad that someon'es found a use for him. Ganja
  9. Dangit, my sombrero with the dread is locked up in my RV at the other DZ. I guess you can;t have a reggae party without some Ganja though.... Ganja
  10. I'm not really sure where to start, so I just pop right in. I've been an active base jumper for just over a year now. I made my first 2 base jumps at BD 2003. My wife was not very supportive, but learned to accept the idea. After coming home from BD '03 I continued to explore base. I made a few jumps with some locals, and then booked myslef a trip to the potatoe bridge over Memorial Day weekend, witha side trip out to the frozen pizza E to get my number... By that time, she still thought I was nuts, but didn't really put up much oppostion to the trip. I return home from that trip and make several more jumps with the locals and then book myself another trip out to the potatoe bridge for Labor Day weekend, she didn't even hesitate about my going. So now I've booked my trip to the Turkey Day boogie out in MO and she asked no questions about that (other than you'll be gone for Thanksgiving?). So at this point I'm thinking that she has gotten pretty used to the idea of me base jumping. 29 jumps in my first year was not setting a blazing pace, but it was feeding my "need" and I felt I was learning alot from it. Then comes BD 2004, a couple of buddies and I think it'd be nice to get a cabin for the weekend and take the wives/girlfriends (one each.. lol) along. Everything seems great, wife actually seems like she's looking forward to the weekend. We arrive Thursday and she's not overly excited about the videofest, but she doesn't complain about it. Friday comes along and we pretty much waste the day away hanging out and running little errands, everything seems great. I get up early Saturday morning and drive to the hotel to ride the box truck out to the bridge (thinking I'll beat the crowd and the weather) and I got a a quick two way in before the line has a chance to start forming. I rode the bus back to the top, walked a few hundred yards back to the cabin and pack for another one. My other buddies and the girls are out of bed by now, so we all wlak back out to the bridge together so the girls can watch us jump. This is where it all seems to trun South on me. I don't think the wife has barely spoken to me since that jump. I'm not sure what she expected to see, or what she thought was going to happen, but she just clammed up after that. My quesiton is, Has anyone else ever had an issue like this? Dis a significant other watching you for the first time ever have an ill effect on things? I mean just when I think she's gotten comfortable with the idea of of me base jumping, she seems to be back o square one. Is she right, is base jumping the root of all evil, or is there just another period of "getting used to the idea" thjat she has to go through? Surely someone out there has had a similar issue... My apologies for poor typing skills and bad grammar in this rather long (for me) post. Ganja "Not quitting, just asking" Rodriguez
  11. Perra, are we supposed to pre-register for balloon jumps? Any idea what is left? Are sliders and reserves mandatory? Ganja
  12. Yo Perra, you wouldn;t come see me the last couple of weekends, so I guess I'm coming up to see you. This boogie sounds like a blast! I don't think I'll make it up there for Friday, but I will most definitely be there early on Saturday. What's the scoop on local lodging? Anyone giving skydiver rates? Ganja
  13. Rigging solutions will have vented and non-vented pc's available at their bridge day booth. Gus will also have a sewing machine on-site for repairs and such. I'm sure if someone has an idea for the tailpocket flaps, he can make it happen. Ganja
  14. Gee Jason, thanks for reminding me... As if going to weather.com every 12 minutes hoping the forecast would be changed wasn't bad enough, I have to read about shitty the weather is going to be on here to.... Ganja
  15. You can add Jalisco to the list.
  16. That's just it, I'm already blowing them off for Thanksgiving to go to a base boogie in Moab... I'm already in the hole on the "points system".... lol I'm still going to try to make it, I'm not using any excuses yet, just laying the groundwork... lol Ganja
  17. It'll be tough as a couple of us are going out to Moab for a base adventure the 24th-28th, but I'm not ruling it out quite yet... I have to see the wife and kids one of these weekends ya know... lol Ganja
  18. Rumor has it that we're going to roast Lee for missing the Harvest Moon Boogie.... Ganja
  19. I've got a cabin just on the far end of the bridge from the hotel, and will be glad to host the meeting there if we want to set a day/time... Ganja
  20. Her birthday is this weekend, you need to come play with us ON her birthday.... lol
  21. Jason, As much as I like the idea of everyone getting together, and yes I'd go to a meeting, I think it would just end up being a pissing match that would mostly likely turn into a gang related brawl... lol Oh, and our DZ is having a boogie this weekend, so I cant do this weekend either. Ganja
  22. So John, let's go flik something and drink a few Hefes together. I can see it now, "The biggest of the Sonic Beefs".... Ganja
  23. Does that mean we get to see your birthday suit? Ganja
