  1. This link has prompted this poll. This thread has some points of view on the topic too. Please note, in the above poll options, I have excluded the obvious exception of emergency exits. A poll similar to this may have been done before but I couldnt find it, so here goes...
  2. Yup, what Chelle said. "Sorry" is not some magical redemption to free a person from all shitstorms. Some things just cant be 'fixed'. Having said that, I will admit to once being so blinded by love that, if she had nuked my home and buried my car, a "sorry" would have covered it. Go figure.
  3. I find it funny that 2% are members, about 25% claim to be members and 75% have a total lack of interest in being associated. (Perhaps they are the smart one's. )
  4. Ivan's ambidextrous.. both hands are clumsy.
  5. As often happens, your boss is over-simplifying the complexities of IT. He needs to know that your office network is not a PlayStation console. Never tell the boss "I cant train the guy...", rather phrase it as "The guy cant be trained..." If the boss needs convincing, show him as many books and manuals as you can collect and explain that, in order to be reliably competent, the new staff member will have to learn most of whats in those books. Invite him to make enquiries with personnel agencies on the type of qualifications and market-related salaries that are associated with network administrators. When talking to the boss, never appear angry or frustrated, smile if you can and speak with confidence. Start your sentences with: "So, the most logical course of action would be..." or "Prudency dictates that we should rather...". In this way you can often get your boss to go along with your suggestions because, if he disagrees, he is indirectly showing himself to be illogical and/or imprudent. This tactic works best if other staff members are also present during the discussion. Management will usualy agree to anything in order to avoid looking foolish in front of other staff. Best of luck.
  6. I distinguish between "I am a skydiver" and "I used to be a skydiver" by asking this question: Could he/she make a successful solo skydive right now, falling stable, landing uninjured, and capable of dealing with most malfunctions ? I will assume that all skydivers who are current could answer 'Yes'. I would also assume that talented skydivers with thousands of jumps and years of experience could take a 5-10 year break and still answer "yes" to the above question. (..or not ? Comments welcome.) However, someone with

    I hate banks!

When I last renewed my Credit Card in 2001, the interest rate on a credit balance was 10%. Because of that, I would always move as much as I could into that account each month to score on the interest. I was mildy miffed when they lowered the interest to 7% the following year... and totaly pissed off when I discovered last week that the credit interest was now a mere 2.75%. My credit card is never 'in the red', it's currently about R15000 in credit... and I still pay about as much in service charges as what the bank pays me interest. ...and then there's service charges on ATM transactions, internet banking etc. No wonder my bank made headline earnings of R4,4 billion this year. Fuckers!
  8. Yeah, I know Watt. He's that guy that did funky things with steam engines and units of power.
  9. From Brent Finley's view... So, it did bounce, right ? There was video, it happened.
  10. Perhaps she wants to strengthen or "confirm" her relationship with you in order to send a message to your "friend". Maybe he is trying to get her, and the best defence or excuse she has against his advances is to show him that she's already taken.. by you.
  11. I dont mean to be a nasty critic but... Are you sure you're not being a little paranoid ? Could it be that your "friend" may be getting distant, not from guilt or a conflict of interest, but because he feels insulted by what you might be implying of him? The strength of a bond is measured by the force required to break it. I wouldn't throw a relationship away unless the facts were both crystal clear and unforgivable. Dont always assume the worst.
  12. Of course, dude. Did you never watch Star Trek ?!
  13. A strategy that seems to work best for me so far is to hold off on the lightning and use just the flood and the hay bale to pin as many people and animals in one spot as you can. Then, when the angels and evangelists move out the way, zap the cluster with a good strike or two. I got to Level 5 that way, but now I cant seem to get those sheep to stand still. (No Clay, it's not what you think. )
  14. I dont think it's quite that simple. Very often, the idea itself is a failure, not it's execution. I have failed to make a hookturn because, at 42 jumps, I have never tried. Should I be trying ? My point is that many people bite off more than they can chew sometimes and reflect on their failures as something that should never have been attempted in the first place. In retrospect, they feel foolish, embarassed and fearful of similar mistakes in future. As skybytch suggested earlier, the price of failure can have more serious implications than a simple denial of success.
  15. Hmm.. Reminds me of "Wild Things". I need Denise Richards and Neve Campbell to come wash my car.
  16. "So.. you think I know fuck-nothing ? Wrong! I know fuck-ALL!"
  17. Yup, that would be my answer. Actualy, pretty much anything that is heavy and hard enough to damage the floor/tiles is the worst thing. Everything else, food included, is only a temporary inconvenience that wont cost a lot to clean.
  18. As some folks have already mentioned, you need to avoid contact with the body as much as possible. All of the "chop up the body and then..." ideas leave a trail of waaay to much fiber and DNA evidence. Keep the body intact, wrap it up well, and either bury it cleverly or incinerate it completely. I do have an exact plan in mind but I'm not gonna share it here. I wouldn't want my own forum comments used against me later if I need to use the plan one day.
  19. Does the paper necessarily need to be "skydive high" and exposed to the air ? Could a pilot take your paper up to 35000ft+ in the cabin of a commercial or military jet aircraft, or would that not count ?
  20. I've heard from a resident of the area that police are looking for an accomplice. It is believed that he (Mr. Heemeyer) had help in welding the "main hatch" closed from the outside. A person might wonder what motivated the accomplice to "help" in this incident.
  21. I have fantastic success using Tiny Personal Firewall. Disadvantages: (1) It cannot cure a PC that is already infected. TPF has to be installed directly after a new Windows installation. (2) It takes a bit of practise and reading to learn how to use it properly. Not suitable for grandma. (3) It's not freeware, you gotta buy it after the evaluation period runs out ($50). Advantages: (1) A single, small program, takes up about 10MB drive space and just a few MB of system resources. (2) Monitors network traffic going in and out aswell as the execution of files and programs, allowing the user to deny, grant, or set a custom permission profile on any and all file execution and network traffic. New files on your PC are automaticaly detected and brought to your attention until you grant/deny them permission to execute and/or permission to connect to the internet. (3) Using the above principles, it can protect you from pretty much any virus, trojan, spyware, unwelcome popup message, or combination of the above. (4) If $50 is not what you had in mind, send me a PM and I can perhaps arrange something cheaper.
  22. Hmm.. surely it's not exactly the same as hitting concrete, is it ? I mean.. if you hit concrete you'll literaly bounce. A body would not bounce off water from a vertical impact at terminal.. or would it ? The water does yield to some extent at least, albeit not enough to make the impact survivable. As for movies, as 'educational' as they are, in 'Saving Private Ryan' we all saw German MG bullets penetrate easily through 6ft of surf and 1ft of soldier before hitting beach sand, apparently not significantly affected by the water impact.
  23. Zero! South African 'highveld' weather, yeah baby! In winter its mostly clear skies and light wind. In summer it's mostly scattered thunderstorms that blow over in an hour or two. High winds have grounded students several times at my DZ but the wind has never persisted more than an hour or so. Of course, I do make a point of checking the weather forecast before driving out to the DZ. That usualy helps a lot in improving my chances of jumping when I get there.
  24. Lt. General Robert Gard expressed an opinion on the videos, in his capacity as a military consultant and a man who has seen action in almost every US campaign since Korea and Vietnam. Quade was quick to suggest here that, despite the general's obviously superior knowledge and experience, he may be a "pandering asshat". Could the same be true of experienced skydivers when expressing opinions in their field of expertise ?
