  1. Here ya go. As you notice, I'm not wearing a rig though ...coz I don't own one yet.
  2. The DZ.com home page features an article on Eliana Rodriguez. I bet 2-ways with her would be memorable.
  3. I'm all in favour of the freedom to post pretty much anything in Talkback, but I do get a bit pissed about the Subject titles that people use. Subject titles such as "FUCK!" or "OMG!" or "Can you believe this..." are a pet peeve coz I then have to actualy open the thread to discover that it's just another 'bubblegum' thread instead of being able to dismiss it at a glance just from reading the subject title. *gripe* *gripe* *whine* *bitch*
  4. In fairness to women; I do think that 'wealth appeal' is not an entirely a clear-cut phenomenon. Some simple examples are: Part of the attraction is that his aftershave smells awesome. The aftershave is super-expensive but she may not even know that, she's just really perked by the scent. Driving in his car makes her feel great. The cab temperature is perfect, the sound quality of the car audio is superb, the seats are more comfortable than the home sofa. She doesn't like him more because the car is expensive, but the creature-comforts in the car has the effect of making her happier, more relaxed, directing her mood in a favourable direction, etc. At his home, she is awestruck by the Egyptian theme used in the interior design. Sure, it costs a lot of money, but that's not why she likes it. In reality, there are thousands of guys with excellent taste in interior design but lacking the money to implement it. But, in her eyes, he is the special guy with rare and exceptional taste. At the nightclub, the shooters are being swallowed at great speed. Girl 'A' is with the guy with unlimited credit at the bar and she's having the time of her life. Girl 'B' is about to order another row when her date akwardly mentions that she cant... coz he's on a budget that has just reached a limit. My point is; in my opinion, femmes are often attracted by the effects and results of wealth, and not the simple notion of cold, hard cash. In may cases they may not even realise that it's all related to money. They are simply aware that spending time with the guy makes them happier, whatever the reasons may be.
  5. commitment ? BEGIN RELATIONSHIP IF @relationship_error = 0 COMMIT RELATIONSHIP ELSE ROLLBACK RELATIONSHIP Some 'puter geeks will get this.
  6. To add: There is an important difference between 'light body' beer and light (low alcohol) beer. Most of the 'light' beer labels are lower in alcohol than the regular labels but may still have been manufactured in a way that leaves a bit too much malt unfermented, resulting in a 'heavier' body. The only way to identify the light-bodied beers is to try them all . They will typicaly be lighter in color. BTW.. has anyone other than skymama felt bloated from Bud Light ? Maybe its more than just beer to blame.
  7. Hmm.. quite a few barstool beer myths going around it seems. Hops is a flavourant, it hardly ferments at all because it contains extremely little sugar or starch. Starch, in the form of rice or barley, is what ferments. It breaks up into malt (or maltose) which is then processed by the yeast to release ethanol and carbon dioxide. The kind of beer that makes you feel 'bloated' is usualy the kind with a 'heavier' body where not enough of the malt was fermented and it's mostly the residual malt content that makes one feel bloated. You should be drinking 'lighter' beers.
  8. When, and if, it begins orbiting the sun. The most common definition of a planet I have read state that it must not generate light of its own and must orbit the sun (or any star.) This definiton does not appear to exclude comets on an elliptical orbit though. Yes it is. There are widely acknowledged to be 2 types of planets, solid terrestrial and Jovian (giant gaseous) planets. A suggested structure for Pluto is a small rocky core covered by an extensive water ice mantle with a crust of methane ice. And so, Pluto is argued by some astronomers as not being either a true terrestrial planet or a true Jovian planet because it has characteristics of both. During the late 19 century; astrologists, priests and early astronomers around the world proposed theories of additional planets; including Vulcan (between Mercury and the Sun), Lilith, Nibiru and PlanetX out beyond Neptune. PlanetX was later confirmed as Pluto but no modern scientific evidence exists to support the existence of the others.... until the article that started this thread appeared.
  9. My relatives are eager to see me, grandma in particular. My parents recently began scuba diving and so they can relate to the enjoyment of being introduced to an extreme sport. I've been stalling them though because with my low jump numbers and canopy variations (3 different sizes and models in 30 jumps), my landings are sometimes embarrassing and I would prefer to have a bit more regular success in that area before inviting them to watch.
  10. The "What's your 5" thread got me started on this: Has anyone watched a film that was really close to home ? I didn't think Vanilla Sky was such a great film, but I just had to buy the DVD for nostalgia reasons and some interesting parallels to my own life: In the week that Vanilla Sky was released, I had just broken up with someone... (1) My first name is David. The lead character in the film is David Aames. (2) My girl was Spanish. Penelope Cruz is Spanish and was similar in appearance in many ways. (3) Our pet-names for each other were 'tomcat' and 'catwoman'. At exactly 1 hour and 3 minutes into the film, Peneleope Cruz has a bizarre script line: "I'll tell you in another life, when we are both cats." Tom Cruise echos this same line at the end of the film: "I'll see you in another life, when we are both cats." I have no idea what prompted the writers to add that to their script ...but it gave me cold chills to hear it.
  11. Aah, I'm real dissapointed that none of you have listed 'Snatch' in your top 5. That movie has got to be worth something to someone here. I laughed my ass off.

    Dating a Lie

I once lied like a champion every day for a week in order to 'prove a point'.... I met and chatted regularly to a girl on an internet channel for about a month, being completely honest at the time. She then asked to meet me for coffee and we began dating for a short time. But then, a particular incident occurred (details not important) that drove us apart and for a while after that she would tell me and tell our mutual friends that I was the worst scum/bastard she had ever known and cant imagine how she ever would have wanted to meet me etc, blah. So, I then began visiting the internet channel again and began chatting to her again, but under a different name, different location, different occupation etc so as not to allow her to know it was me. ...And sure enough, after just 1 week she found me absolutely charming and eagerly asked me once again to meet for coffee, and at that point I ended the charade and told her who I really was and, of course, she exploded on me all over again. A cruel experiment perhaps, but I did it to observe her total lack of objectivity, finding it really weird that a person can feel such animosity toward a person they know but yet be absolutely thrilled by the company of that same person when they are anonymous... and do it twice.
  13. Some friends of mine have also suggested a few times that men have more appeal to women when they already have a woman. Apparently, the male loner makes many femmes wary and skeptical. They suspect there's a really good reason why he's alone so often, concerned that the guy may desperately misinterpret anything they say to him as advance of some kind. The guy who already has a partner, especialy if she seems like a good catch, often reassures other femmes that the guy is at least straight and probably has some really good qualities that attracted his current partner, qualities that are worth pursuing for themselves if and when he becomes single again. The popular trophy perhaps ? The guy they have to work on a bit to lure his attention away from the female competition ? Anyone concur ?
  14. A bit of a story... My grandmother has never done a skydive and has no association with skydiving at all, except perhaps for the simple pride that many doting grandparents have for their 'brave' grandsons and relatives that jump from aircraft. She's still in good health and expects to live a few more years.. but has already asked me if I can disperse her ashes over the DZ when the day comes. She turned 92 years old this year. Originaly from Germany, she has lived through two world wars and has spent the last 60+ years of her life in Kenya and South Africa. It is her wish that her ashes be scattered "...high over Africa. Anywhere in African skies will do." When I first read about ash release dives, it was my assumption that this tradition (if it is that) was more commonly carried out for people of significance in the skydiving community; people that had held a passion for skydiving for many years and had perhaps even made some significant achievements in the sport. Is this so ? ...or can anyone be scattered without 'tainting' a tradition ? Of course, there are alternatives to an actual skydive. I could just release the ashes from a hot-air balloon, microlite or the door of a plane, but there may be some practical issues about ash blowing in inconvenient directions.
  15. Many computer Operating Systems have a file association that causes them to immediately attempt to open and play files such as wmv's when you click to download them. There are 3 things to try: (1) Right-click on the link and 'Save Target As..' then play it once it's complete. (2) Use a specialised downloader program such as NetVampire, GetRight or Godzilla to download the link and play it once the download completes. (3) I may be stating the obvious, but here goes.. Update your MS Media Player. It may be having trouble connecting to Microsoft to download a codec. To my knowledge, WMV's can only be played on recent versions of Windows Media Player. They will probably not play on RealOne, Quicktime or non-Microsoft players if you happen to be using one of those as your default media player.
  16. So... Are you planning to open a bar anytime soon, streaker ? And if you use my suggestion, does that win me a free cocktail when I visit ?
  17. Just to clarify; the video link posted by Edgar was from a separate incident in which the student survived. To my knowledge, no video of the actual fatality mentioned in the original post exists. Using Edgar's quote: ..which can be understood as: "Here's a video of a similar incident."
  18. Three come to mind: (1) The Barrel Roll (2) The Hard Deck ..and my favourite: (3) The Prop Wash
  19. Hiya Angela, remember this post ? You apparently have talent. If the scrutiny is getting to you, think back to the times you performed well and know that you have potential for great things in the sky. As an instructor once told me; Be safe. Pull. Land safely. The rest is gravy.
  20. I jumped yesterday; my first fall through cloud, 3000ft thick between 8000ft anbd 5000ft. Yesterday was also the first time I had to land with the plane, because of a thunderstorm that moved in on the climb to altitude. Yes, I did use the word "first"... Beer!
  21. That's an unfortunate typo, dude. Use his ass ? PS. I agree with you, kallend and Nightingale on this topic.
  22. I guess I'm just different, but I dont like shaved at all, it just instinctively feels.. wrong. "If there is grass on the wicket, we can bat."
  23. To quote from a popular movie: "Are you going to tell me to stay away from your girl ?" "Well, if I had to do that then she wouldn't be my girl." I think it's usualy best to discuss the problem with the 'significant other', but to let him/her handle it themselves unless they specificaly asked/agreed that you intercede. Either the S.O. is happy in their relationship with you or not. The flirting stranger, or someone else like them, will either succeed or fail based on that factor alone. It's just a matter of time.
  24. It appears that "clouding the issue" is rife in this thread. Where, pray tell, did I suggest that I have, and/or am entitled to have, a power unique to me that solely determines the life and death of other people ?" My posts have expressed an attitude of apathy more than divinity. I'm more inclined to let fate take its course and let the dice fall where they may. Taz, apparently, seems to advocate the principle of persistently educating even those that dont heed the education, of somehow changing the entire culture of a developing nation so that even the poor may one day be capable of abstinence or eventualy put freely distributed condoms to proper use long after their purpose had been explained to a reluctant community. Taz wishes to teach the unteachable, prevent the inevitable, and intercede against fate. So.. which one of us is really 'playing God' ?
  25. Not at all. Assuming she acquired the condition through her own fault or negligence, then she would have failed herself a person, and I would have failed her as a father.. and it will be our fate, our consequence, to deal with it as a family as best we could without crying out at the world to deal with it for us. The responsibilities towards one own family cannot be compared to the reponsibilities towards a global community.
