  1. Congrats. Does this mean you have to buy beers for the other 299 skydivers? Thanks for the updates. Cheers " You have never lived until you've almost died, and for those who has experienced it, life has a flavour the protected would never understand"
  2. Sorry to hear about your misfortune. This was not the first time I heard about this problem. Apparently Chute Shop did have a problem with a batch of Vortex11's. I have had mine now for six months and no problem so far. Must say that I am very happy with mine. Let me know what the manufacturer is planning to about your rig. 6. Glad you are OK. Same thing happened to me. I think people under estimate how tight the Spandex of the BOC should be, for it to be safe in freefly positions. 7. Not to nitpic your facts, I seem to remember from my pilot training that the standard lapse rate is 2C degrees for every thousand foot. 11. Agreed, most popular brand is the Hanwag 2000 or Crispy. Very good boots if you can afford them. " You have never lived until you've almost died, and for those who has experienced it, life has a flavour the protected would never understand"
  12. Anti Fog liquid. Any scuba diving shop will sell you a bottle of canned "mucus" " You have never lived until you've almost died, and for those who has experienced it, life has a flavour the protected would never understand"
  13. Just my 2cents worth. You recently had the unfortunate experience of having a buddy go in. My condolences to all. If I look at this incident, your three cut-aways in 36 jumps, a DZ that allowed a low-time jumper to assemble a main with no supervision. I start to see a pattern developing, that is unfortunately not a good one. IMHO I will start to review some of the safety aspects there before someone else gets hurt. I do not agrre with you that your last cut-away is your fault, yes you did assemble the rig but that should have been done under supervision and checked, before the main was repacked. -" In skydiving you start with bag full of luck and a empty bag of experience, the trick is to fill the bag of experience before the bag of luck runs out. 14. Congratulations on a very informative article!! Good to see that the experienced are willing to share their knowledge. 15. Hey Screamer. I agree with your comments. My comment was intended as a general comment and not to attck your content. I am not allowed to say how much I have paid for my Vortex. But I do agree with you that purchasing in SA is the only option. I constantly monitor the forums and sometimes get a bit fed-up with comments about quality and re-sale value of SA products. So, I made the comment about knowing the product and the manufacturers as a general statement. FWIW Iam a SA or ex-Sa boy too. So excuse my patriotism. 16. There are times that even with the best quality control you do have problems with equipment. This has happened to almost all the manufacturers, and sometimes it is just a misfit of canopy, reserve and container. What strikes me ass odd is that a number of people comment on gear that they have never even seen in their life. Both Chute Shop and PISA have been in the gear manufacturing for longer than 20 years and in my book put them up there with the likes of PD, Sunpath etc. " You have never lived until you've almost died, and for those who has experienced it, life has a flavour the protected would never understand"

  19. Contact Manny at Icarus. manny@icarus.co.za. The price is a bit steep , you will get it from him at $2100 without the cypress. " You have never lived until you've almost died, and for those who has experienced it, life has a flavour the protected would never understand"
  20. try Manny at Icarus in South Africa. manny@icarus.co.za " You have never lived until you've almost died, and for those who has experienced it, life has a flavour the protected would never understand"
  21. The Vortex 11 is an excellent container, the decelerator a good reserve, but I do think that you will be better off with a hornet. The ZP exec is a good alround canopy much like the hornet and I know many people in the UK that are jumping the package. The ZPexec has got a very steep angle of attack and in comparison to the hornet tends to sink in much faster and therefore gives you the impression that the glide is not as good as the hornet's. I also think that the price is on the steep side, Contact Manny at Icarus in SA. manny@icarus.co.za. I think with the current exchange rate the rig without the cypress will cost you $2000, Blue Skies " You have never lived until you've almost died, and for those who has experienced it, life has a flavour the protected would never understand"
