To bite, or to be bitten . . . that is the question.

I just got my new issue of skydiving and there are several reports in there of peeps flaring their reserve and getting dumped on their backs - My question is - Could those have been avoided if they did a practice flare up high? Wouldn't the canopy react the same way? Or am I missing something obvious? (which wouldn't be the first time). Scars remind us that the past is real

Need help deciding what to do for my vacation

I would say cross Eloy off your list Unless of course you like melted chap stick and seat belts that leave a branding mark. Scars remind us that the past is real -
Reminds me of a Kenny Chesney song that has made me apply a large portion of thinking and meditation to this very thing - The applicable lyrics - "...all I want right now is to forget every single thing I regert, and drown out these embers, but I remember...." I sympathize with you - there are things I don't want to remember - things I wish I could erase. But if we erase those memories, what's to stop us from making the same mistake again? Those who don't learn from their failures are doomed to repeat them. I think the price we pay by remembering is paid back by keeping us from making the same mistakes again. I've decided not to waste my payment and to drive on. Once you learn how the river flows - you can navigate it and enjoy the ride so much better. Scars remind us that the past is real

wth are you smoking? If it's a cottonmouth it will be very aggressive. Shoot on site. Shoot any snake on site. Don't worry about asking questions later - just shoot. Some harmless water snakes appear to be aggressive(defensive) as well. Not a good indicator. Let's kill everything we're too stupid or impatient to understand. Eventually, what is left will kill us. Jason -- Wtf? *jumper looks around* damn, for a minute there I thought we were in SC... Down heeler, down. Scars remind us that the past is real

I still think some interpid skydiver should rig the exhaust ports so that when they do fire it up for the first time, flames and smoke belch from the top.... Scars remind us that the past is real

Reserve deployment time/altitude and size
jumper03 replied to Hooknswoop's topic in Gear and Rigging
time wise, I'd say the smaller reserve. Less altitude for the bigger one. No scientific reason, just gut feeling.... Scars remind us that the past is real -

I've got a 2004 Golf GLS TDI. I've gotten 52 mpg consistently. Handles great - drives like a race care. I've put 20k on it and it still handles and feel like new. I love it. Not to mention, the monsoon sound system is f****** awesome. Scars remind us that the past is real -

I've seen a lot of lava flows in New Mexico and Arizona. NM is chock full of 'em. But I don't know of any good ones in Texas, and I've been all over it. Except for maybe some small "walls" where magma has pushed up through a fissure, like in Big Bend. Where do you see these? Good lord - where to start...... Ft. Davis State park has a very large rheomorphic flow - some beautifully preserved gas tubes and flow features I might add. On the west side of the park heading up towards Alpine you can see the Star Mountain Rhyolite and Crossen Trachyte flows - both very interesting to me as they display features of flood basalt flows (thin and arreally extensive) but still have silica rich compostitions which shouldn't flow!!! There are many, many more but I'd really get carried away and I'm afraid much geekness has already leaked out here. Pm if you want to know more. I can also direct you to some very nice ignimbrite flows, Maar deposits and some base surge deposits in and around the park. West Texas is FULL of evidence of volcanic activity. As for I-10 in New mexico - you won't see one lava flow. I-40 however is another story and I LOVE driving that road. Scars remind us that the past is real

I hope you're not asking me that.... I've covered that place from asshole to appetite as well as the huge ranch just north that belongs to a TCU alum. Scars remind us that the past is real

Ah, New Mexico...yeah, atleast its a quick drive through there when on I-10... actually, you go across the biggest time gap in Texas...Permian basin, limestones, faults galore. Not to mention plenty of lava flows out in west texas as well. Scars remind us that the past is real

oh, and if you want, I can pm you the locations of some really neat rock formations/faults/unconformities etc along the way that you'll cross.... Scars remind us that the past is real
