ROFL *gasp* that's funny... well... as long as it doesn't happen to me ! Sorry. Wouldn't wish that upon anyone... ouch! Ich betrachte die Religion als Krankheit, als Quelle unnennbaren Elends für die menschliche Rasse. (Bertrand Russell, engl. Philosoph, 1872-1970)

To the Original Post(er): I'm with you. But still, life is good and I will enjoy it until I die. If there's one thing giving me comfort, it's the knowledge that we all will share the same fate in the end: Death, and whatever (maybe) comes after that. I haven't read the whole thread. Just wanna contribute a few quotes (edited for readability by myself) of a movie I think is a must see... Fight Club! I found that to be one of the strongest and most enlightening scenes I've ever seen in a movie. Ich betrachte die Religion als Krankheit, als Quelle unnennbaren Elends für die menschliche Rasse. Which btw is exactly 1.90m (~ 6'3") from Pin to PC (measured it yesterday). Ich betrachte die Religion als Krankheit, als Quelle unnennbaren Elends für die menschliche Rasse. (Bertrand Russell, engl. Philosoph, 1872-1970)

Ah thanks, now I understand. That makes sense! I bet you never had any line twists, that looks like the optimal gear/bag combination for WS to me. Ich betrachte die Religion als Krankheit, als Quelle unnennbaren Elends für die menschliche Rasse. (Bertrand Russell, engl. Philosoph, 1872-1970)

Just received that reply from Jean-Pierre Maenner: Sorry Falko We don't have any longer bridle for use with Wingsuit jumps Jean-Pierre Hmm... Ich betrachte die Religion als Krankheit, als Quelle unnennbaren Elends für die menschliche Rasse. (Bertrand Russell, engl. Philosoph, 1872-1970)

Yes that's what I always thought. But a few months ago I sent an email to Parachutes-de-France, asking if I may replace the PdF-reversed-risers with standard grommetted risers (like Aerodynes). The answer was "no" because it would void the TSO, as main risers are considered a part of the harness. Then again, I have conflicting statements from Riggers who told me that it's ok to change the risers on an Atom. I guess they only meant "technically ok" (standard risers are no problem on an Atom, just you have to reach a few cm higher to reach the toggles because of the position of the main D-Ring.) Maybe some insurance companies lawyers would tell you exactly that?! Say: "a closing loop or BOC which has not been supplied by the original manufacturer and is not part of the spare parts supply list of THIS container voids the TSO". Who really knows? I've heard so many conflicting statements regarding the whole "voiding the TSO" issue that I don't know what to believe any more. Thanks Erno & JFK for your replies Since noone had answered to your old thread Atom Legend and open corners, could you provide a few photos/sketches and/or manual on how to do that correctly? I have a picture in mind of how that would look like, but am just guessing. How exactly do you put it in the container (orientation of lines etc)? If you could also provide a few photos, it would be nice to see that! ... you mean sewn on the bag. What bridle length (pin to PC) do you use/recommend? Talking about all these modifications to a TSO'ed rig: These mods do void the TSO, especially the corner mod, don't they!? From what I've heard it's even void if one were to only modify the bridle length? Ich betrachte die Religion als Krankheit, als Quelle unnennbaren Elends für die menschliche Rasse. Hello Forum, I have an Atom Legend (size 0) and am wondering if anyone here is also flying WS using this gear. I've never done a WS jump but will do very soon, and I'd like to be prepared correctly: Right canopy (thinking Spectre150), appropriate gear modifications. Seems to me that most people are recommending a longer bridle (at least 2.40m ~ 8ft), which is why I wrote PdF an email on Monday asking if they offer a longer bridle as a spare part. No reply as of yet. A rigger here in Germany told me they don't (he had asked the same question), they only have standard size bridles. If one would simply replace the bridle with a third-party spare part it would void the ETSO (that is the EASA certification) Also, do I need a corner modification with this rig? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Yup, agreed! To the OP: Go get the original DV material and use VirtualDub to discard one field of the video frame (or use Gunnars Smooth Deinterlace filter). Could this really happen to/with any other rig (long)
Falko replied to feuergnom's topic in Gear and Rigging
Hi Rob, what do you think about this (just brainstorming): Sewing-in stiffened "bars" (maybe 1cm-1.5cm) alongside or inside the side seam of the deflector flap to prevent the line from cording up the flap, but still maintaining some bending flexibility for the flap to sit snug on the Pod. These plastic stiffeners would not be rigid (as in "iron" ) but stiff enough to allow the flap to maintain a certain trapezoid shape. It would be important for the bars to be aligned in a tapering angle to allow the line to slide down and over the grommet-stiffener. This is more of the approach of the Atom Legend, where the Flap 1 (loop flap) is almost rock solid, making a line snag virtually impossible. Just to clarify: ... that is, the old Atom Millenium (which is outdated and not manufactured by PdF any more) That is what they did with the Atom LEGEND... a complete new design! See the photos in this thread (german language) here. (The photos say it all, I was trying to get a line to snag on any of the flaps, to no avail.) Aaargh it's been a long time since I watched that video... *slightly embarrassed* I look so ... so... so STUDENT with that helmet & rig. It's been my jump #20. The net never forgets......... Yeah shame on me! I was busy skydiving the last 2 years and too lazy in my spare time ! I sort of explained it in the rec.skydiving thread, but if there is still need for clarification I will try to post a more detailed explanation here. If anyone needs the XLS file with the macro, let me know and I'll email it. That executable windows file is still halfway finished, but at some point I just had more important stuff to program and forgot about it. Sorry guys!!! By the way there is a nice new Software out that works both with Neptune & ProTrack and is also capable of exporting jump profiles to ASCII files: Paralog Ich betrachte die Religion als Krankheit, als Quelle unnennbaren Elends für die menschliche Rasse. Don't think so. On the video/pics you can see the left 2 cells being pulled down at least (my guess) 3-5 ft (that is the distance from the riser to the back of your reserve tray and back). There must be a lot of tension on that line. Without gloves you're probably going to cut yourself. And even wearing gloves, my guess is you would slip off the line. A hook-knife might have helped, if one had the TIME and presence of mind to recognize the scenario ("damn, line snag on gear, I need to get rid of that"), analyse the implications ("if I don't cut the line my freebag might not come out") and then vary your standard emergency procedures (i.e. grab hook knife, cut line and then normal cutaway & reserve pull). But I can say that sitting comfortably on my ass... I probably would have done the same, follow my standard procedures! By the way, Kudos to the jumper... he saved his life in a situation where many people would have just gone in. WHOW! edit2add: another WHOW!!! Reading the site & looking at the formations is thrilling. That puts a smile on the face of everyone who likes to turn points. Too bad I suck at freeflying. That was well written and I can relate so much! My parents drowned when I was 4, the only survivor being the third person, a neighbor and good friend, who lived to have 2 more children in the 80's. If that's not Irony, what else? So I absolutely agree: Live Life NOW! Right now that scene in "Fight Club" pops up in my mind, where Tyler burns Jacks hand with lye and says: First, you have to KNOW that someday, you are going to die." Yes! And I'm gonna live life now... countdown for RyanAir flight to Empuria: 3 days 20 hours 1 minute. blue skies & happy landings Ich betrachte die Religion als Krankheit, als Quelle unnennbaren Elends für die menschliche Rasse. Definitely NO! And I'm saying that while being one of the most "hooked" newbies you can imagine. When I started skydiving it absolutely blew my mind, and I (and most people here) can relate to you so much . Thankfully I got a good job so I was able to do more than 500 jumps in less than 2 years, but if I hadn't, I definitely wouldn't sell my belongings to pay for my addiction. I'm not saying "don't live your dream", of course you should, but like many people already said: Do it with a sound mind, without endorphines interfering with your reasoning. Think about all the implications and if the positive really outweighs the negative for you. And don't rush it! As a couple you will probably be able to make a decent number of jumps and gain some experience without quitting on all you've build up so far. Have fun & be safe Ich betrachte die Religion als Krankheit, als Quelle unnennbaren Elends für die menschliche Rasse. (Bertrand Russell, engl. Philosoph, 1872-1970)

Agreed! If for example a turk immigrant here in germany receives citizenship after so many years of living here, they'll be referred to as a "german" only in every written official communication. He won't receive any benefits for being of turkish origin, either. IMHO, if "nationality" (citizenship) isn't the "smallest measurable unit" when it comes to equal treatment by the state, what else could be? Bahahaa...
