  1. 389 Tri-Power & 4 on the floor
  2. This seems to come from the DCI (Defence for Children International) website. They publish "reports" of incidents involving children. I looked around the site for the story about the 3 Israeli kids that were brutally killed during a home invasion recently but couldn't find it. I'm sure they'll probably get around to publishing that "report" in time.
  3. No religiosity here, but if yours requires stoning me to death for eating shrimp steamed in beer with a nice garlic butter sauce and ....where was I? Oh...If yours requires stoning me to death then I'd have to get Ban Ki Moon and NATO to try to figure out who the good guys are and then get France to send some Mirages (but not too many!) to take you out if they decide you are one of the bad guys. Otherwise (and this may be worse!) they will bore you with one of their strongly worded resolutions. Maybe not.
  4. I think that looking back over the millenia that it's really the other way around. Sharia is really not much more than the "law of the desert" and bedouin hospitality. Other societies and their varied religions might also have sprung from rules of "interaction" developed over centuries. As long as these societies remained isolated from each other there were no problems except at their frontiers. What you don't seem to get is that you are really a conservative but you can't get past the more visible elements that you think define conservatism. Let go! ...join us!
  5. Hey! I think I could get used to this prophesy business. I know this was a pretty easy one but all the great prophets had to start small ...playing keno and twenty questions and such.
  6. Sooo...How much responsibility does Terry Jones have for the massacre in Afghanistan? See post #8
  7. I don't know wether to laugh or cry... It really is hard to find a good Church these days. God help us... I wonder... did they leave over philosophical differences or did they scatter to keep from being targeted by the religion of peace?
  8. So ifa some left-winger burned an American Flag and a militia group went on a rampage killing dozens of people, would you assign 100% blame to the flag burner? Don't be silly. It has already been determined that burning the US flag is an acceptable form of protest protected by the 1st Amendment. The "militia group" would be committing a capital crime by killing folks who were not even involved in the burning. In contrast, the protesters in Afghanistan were just doing what they were "supposed to do" by defending the Koran. Perfectly lawful and probably mandatory. Also, IMO, I seriously doubt that burning a bible on Jones doorstep would get you killed and certainly would not get a bunch of non-involved people killed. (You might get killed while you were trespassing and starting a fire at his front door, though)
  9. Yep, something like Ron's post over in the "Christians Shooting Immigrants" thread.
  10. Religious riots, and not restricted to one religion in particular, are nothing new to history. Of course the murders by the pliable, poorly-educated rioters were abhorrent. By the same token, Terry Jones intended to provoke exactly that occurrence, for his own personal enrichment and aggrandizement. Morally, civilized society shouldn't give him the smallest patch of sanctuary. Terry Jones burned a book owned by him. No law against that (barring any fire codes, etc.). I think he did it in this country where he enjoys the sanctuary of the 1st Amendment. Only he knows his motivation (personal gain or act of faith or conscience) and I don't particularly care one way or the other. The civilized world has long ago condemned murder as an acceptable response to being "offended" or insulted.
  11. I agree with one thing Terry Jones says: "We... find this a very tragic and criminal action. The United States government and the United Nations itself, must take immediate action. We must hold these countries and people accountable for what they have done as well as for any excuses they may use to promote their terrorist activities." ...and one thing quade says: "The guy is a fuggin' jackass." As far as who bears responibility for the riots and murders: The clerics with their bullhorns and the fanatics who are whipped into a frenzied froth by them. But thankfully, the matter has been severely dealt with by the UN and Ban Ki Moon: He stared at the people who killed for no reason. Who just happened to be feelin' that way without warning. And he spoke through his cloak, most deep and distinguished. And handed out strongly, for penalty and repentance... ..."I condemn it in the strongest possible terms" But you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears ...bury the rag deep in your face for now's the time for your tears. ~B.Dylan (mostly)
  12. Strange foreigners, will they ever learn? I try to write out the month to avoid confusion (ie: 01 APR)... Because everyone knows it makes more sense to put day/month/year but too many people refuse to accept it!! Sometimes I use YYMMDD format to name folders or file names to keep them in chronological order in a file manager list (windows explorer, etc.) when it matters. If I use day/month/year the order of the files would make no useful sense. Yeah, I know I could click the "date modified" tab but what fun is that?
  13. Strange foreigners, will they ever learn? Don't you mean 20110401? Don't you mean -312248.01 (...converted using 11:57GMT as the time)
  14. I think that's what he meant. Just get that mess straightened up by Saturday. My son and I are planning to spend the day there.
  15. This one's not me. I have a modest collection of prints, lithos, and paintings. The avatar is not a picture of my actual print. (mine is not in very good condition)
  16. Thoughts are with Mark and his family. I know this is a very hard thing to deal with. Having gone through my mother's passing just two months ago I have to agree with everyone who commented on Hospice. I'm sure that Mark staying with her is making a difference. There are 6 of us siblings so we were able to care for our mom 24/7 at home. Having her children with her was a great comfort to her but we couldn't have done it without the help and advice of the Hospice workers. They were just a phone call away and available around the clock for any questions or aid we needed. They provided everything we needed from equipment to medication. It finally came time to move her to inpatient Hospice care and she was there only one day before she passed. Not enough can be said about their dedication, competence and compassion.
  17. I'm sure they would, but she is famous, so they know it would be a PR disaster. It is not required that a cleric or "leader" or other person-in-charge order an execution. Since there are over a billion people who have the authority (mandate) to carry out such an "honor killing" I'm sure that there are more than just a few who really don't give a red rat's ass about PR. Even a fraction of a percent is still a lot of willing people. Just my opinion, of course ...no numbers to back that up. Her notariety just increases the number of would-be assassins who are aware of her "indiscretions".
  18. Well ..the Racer and the Raven were "OK" ...and the Nova was good down to about 75' AGL ...and you're not supposed to depend on an AAD anyway. So, not too bad if the price is right! (I'll trade you a Sodfarm container for it.)
  19. Oops! ...sorry. I saw the word "politician" in that thread title and didn't read it. Besides I don't consider an autocratic, banana-republic dictator to be a "politician" (at least in the J.S. Phogbound sense).
  20. Looks like they could meet the same fate as the Martians.
  21. I hope "the West" doesn't find out too late that ridding the Middle East of all these despotic tyrants was a bad idea.
