Semi-automatic weapons are far superior to bolt action rifles in most defense scenarios. Removing every "assault weapon" from the United States would not even make a noticeable dent in violent crime statistics. Comparing owners of "assault weapons" to smokers is a false analogy because smokers endanger the public every time they smoke; whereas, you'd be hard pressed to find an "assault weapon" owner who has ever endangered the public. in Watts, CA...3-4 AK-47s are confiscated (from gang bangers) per month and "assault weapons" are ILLEGAL in CA. edited to add: source is a friend of mine whom is a LAPD Officer stationed at the Watts division. What owning a firearm does, besides offer the opportunity for recreation, is improve the owner's odds of survival in a number of scenarios. And THAT is why it's a constitutionally protected right. In some, but not in all scenarios, and taking a look at homicide rates, Americans are FAR more likely to be homicide victims or gun accident victims than residents of any western country where there are strict controls on guns. i have a book where i jot down little gems i hear people say whether they are inspiring, wrong or just funny. i jot down little things people say in passing and sometimes from dz.com and that just made it in right at the top of the page That's awesome!
