  1. I have reviewed the Norman Kent video available here - it has good information in it but there is more than one way to skin a cat. http://www.vasst2.com/product.aspx?id=a51ff035-440f-44b1-90d3-74d52c029250 Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
  2. You do not need to leran to sit or back fly - you can belly fly and get great shots on tandems, I have seen camera flyers do it with all sorts of different helmets. I believe that getting the right suit and learning how to use it is paramount. Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…

  4. So, I am not quite clear as to which direction you were facing when you touched down... Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
  5. Overall, I think that RW guys and gals need the exercise more than swoopers, but the swoopers do not have the presence in numbers or on back to back loads as the RW folks, at least what I have observed in my limited experience. So the swoopers should be the opposite of Christopher Reeves. Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
  6. Furthermore, I would find it even more satisfying that a dynamic test concerning emergency procedures and canopy flight issues were to have more emphasis placed on them for acquisition of each subsequent license, and for that matter, annual renewals. In my limited experience, the ability to perform a freefall maneuver is secondary to the aforementioned skills where personal survival is concerned. Freefall skills that are necessary for survival and safety are issues like the ability to stop quickly while recovering from a corked maneuver and other aspects like tracking that ensure group safety may have a higher level of importance over being able to turn ones body etcetera... But, I am a United Stated Parachute Association Solo Freefall Instructor, so I much test in accordance with their procedures, even though I am not in complete agreement as to which maneuvers and skills necessitate a higher priority where safety is concerned… Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…

  12. Honestly, at this point, you have no idea. All you need to concentrate on right now is the task at hand, and that is getting through each level of your student level training, and that is it. The rest will come with time, trust me… Don’t sweat what it is going to be like jumping with others at this point… Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
  13. What anyone here thinks has no bearing on this issue, it is up to your instructor(s) who will be jumping with you. Some instructors will allow them on a dive, some will not and I have seen some allow the suit to be worn but to tuck and tape the booties up into the legs, Talk to the instructors who will be working with you... 15. I think what they are trying to say is what is the point of having a law/policy/rule if there is not enforcement of it whatsoever? If laws against murder or speeding are not enforced at all, then why should it be against the law if violators go completely unchecked? Here in Texas, there is a law against sodomy, why is that even on the books? It is ridiculous, like the sodomy squad have been going around kicking in bedroom doors and setting up anus check points. There is also a law against fucking a dead cat… What would you say to the judge? “I swear your Honor, I thought that cat was alive, I wouldn’t fuck a dead cat – that’d be sick”! I believe that the frustration some may have with BSR’s/rules/policies/laws concerning skydiving is that they are seemingly not enforced, so what is the point of having any if violators go unchecked? So perhaps it is not a matter of “being against” BSR’s, but rather not understanding the point of having them in the first place if there is no type of enforcement (other than the honor system) whatsoever. I do not have any quick solutions, just thinking out loud… Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…

  17. bytch, you are always right on with your posts and this one is no exception - right on indeed... Seems like these days though, there is at least one or more on every load that scare me under canopy ... Glad we have 130 acre landing area... 18. I use Encore and seem to get decent results with fully interactive animated menus and it shipped with a shit load of canned menus, but I make all my own. D knows a helluva lot more about software than I do though, Encore is the only DVD authoring tool I have ever used except for Sonic, which I thought was very limited in comparison. I have been using Adobe products for well over a decade, so I pretty much stick with what I know... In my limited experience, it is not the software as much as the jockey that gets the results... 19. Yup. Compared to any other sport or hobby, it really is not that expensive... Scott is right on as well, it cost a DZO who maintains the equipment they are providing a lot. It is not cheap to keep an Otter (or 3) well maintained and flying, buying student and rental gear and keeping that maintained, not to mention all the other overhead. I am also willing and more than happy to pay a premium to jump at a DZ that offers the best, well maintained equipment staff and program like at the DZ where I work and play, and hell, jump tickets are only $20, that is cheap when considering all the overhead involved. There is an awful lot of overhead to manage a quality DZ, just staggering… Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
  20. I am with the big “D” on this one – like I give a fuck if so and so is sitting across the Otter from me. To me, skydiving is all about taking risks and having the freedom to do so, and the most irresponsible skydiver with a total disregard for safety was not as apparent to me until after I got my rating and really started paying attention to the safety levels of others and how many under-trained and reckless individuals there are on the plane at any one time. If there is an individual I have it in for, it is probably more personal than anything and since I am of the opinion that anyone willing to sign the waiver, “pay their money and take their chances” has a much right an the next person to jump, I never feel inclined to not share the sky with so and so. There are enough people in the world full of self righteous indignation trying to save others from themselves, I try not to add to that mess, especially at the DZ… The sky is full of potential accidents waiting to happen, some more so than others… Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
