  1. I needed to read that thanks... Dave totally - I sound like a hypocrite because I am a freaking instructor but in all honesty, I do not like my wife to skydive! I don’t buy into all this skydiving is safe stuff going around - it is unforgiving as hell and very easy to die. I want her safe and sound and to live a long and happy life, but skydiving makes her happy, so I make certain she is well trained, has good gear to jump and pray that she is not in a mishap and of course - I don’t even tell her I don’t like her to skydive because I want her to have fun and not feel she has to give up something she loves just because it makes me a bit uneasy. I believe that everything happens in this world exactly the way it is supposed to, or it wouldn’t turn out the way it does so everything is the will of the gods, fate or whatever you want to call it. I am with Rok, it is not my place to tell my loved ones how to live their life, as long as it does not create issues in my value system… Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
  2. Often times, some are so eager to condemn the actions of comrades significant others after receiving details from one side of the fence concerning one or two issues. There are so many varying intricate details when it comes to a relationship to be able to make judgment calls from small tidbits of information. It is easy to jump quickly in making statements/judgments concerning someone’s significant other without living the whole story. It is important to accept the choices our peers make that create contentedness and to encourage them to do whatever it is that makes them happy while remaining within the boundaries of their own personal value systems. For some, splitting is the answer, for some it is finding balance and for some making sacrifices and not participating in certain activities, there is no one size fits all answer as we are all different in the way we decide to live our lives and conduct ourselves in personal relationships. I believe that it is important to not make any hasty decisions in life, especially ones that can have a tremendous impact that we may regret for an extended period of time. 3. Good choice! Are you buying new or used? If you are going used, it will save you a lot lf $$$ and there are a lot of good canopies you can get second hand. You should really try some demo canopies to see what you like - and there is nothing wrong with a good old Saber (original) if you can get a good deal on it - my wife jumps one and I have around 700 jumps on that type of canopy. 5. Of course not, there are only 2 guarantees in life right? There is just a lot of it...
  6. AIDS Altitude Induced Divorce Syndrome
  7. Another thing to really watch closely is changes in altitude within 24 hours of certain types of Solar Flares. Solar flares are typically classified as A, B, C, M or X, depending upon the degree of their peak flux. Most solar flares occur in or around sun spots as the result of intense magnetic fields emerging from the Sun’s surface into the corona. The powerful energy commonly associated with solar flares can take as long as several days to build up, but only minutes to release. It is when our planet gets blasted with tons of hot ionized plasma called a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). This can actually create a flux in the warpage that the Earth produces in the space time continuum and can affect freefall times as much as 9.7%, making it seem like you will have more altitude after so many seconds in freefall as you are accustomed to, but since you are actually loosing altitude faster it is ultra important to pay close attention to altitude. Some will tell you that this is all a load of dingo’s kidneys, but it is true and something to consider after coronal activity. 8. Well, that is not a very nice thing to say (more needless online tough talk), I am with you and prefer the trekkie path as well... Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
  9. Okay, since I got no answer here I Googled it, turns out it stands for "Star Trek Federation University". I don't get it. Still curious how smoking near an unpacked rig is a safety issue (for the rig, not the ass of the person with the cig) Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
  10. I am more prepared to handle EP's now than when I was at 400 jumps, simply because I continue to train before every jump. At 400 jumps, I was less prepared than when I had 20 jumps because back then I did not continue to train. But that is just for me, continued training makes me better prepared - I cannot speak for everyone, but I would imagine continued training is the best course of action across the board, but only religious or political people speak for everyone, so fire em up if ya got em if that’s what your into… Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
  11. A 170 would put you at 1.1 to 1, that is perhaps the safer choice over 1.26. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1981329#1981329 Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…

  14. I am slow on the acronyms: STFU? Not that I condone it, but exactly how is smoking near a rig being packed a safety issue? There may be a few points that are outside the realm of your comment about not mattering to anyone how many jumps someone has to know what’s what in the wrong department. It is difficult at times to read someone’s demeanor when reading the written word, so I cannot tell if you are upset and frustrated, or just sharing. 15. "Country Music" sounds like an oxymoron to me..
  16. Me to. It is especially difficult for me because I have health issues that do not allow me to participate actively right now, probably never again. If you have a good career, before you let it affect that, think long and hard about it. I gave up a really great career to skydive fulltime, did that for over 6 years and have no regrets (met my wife and made great friends), but it was quite a sacrifice but was worth it for me. Now that it has been taken away, it sucks. Try to keep things in perspective and remain balanced, and as has been stated we skydive year round here in the south, so you are in a good state for it, and one of the best DZs around is right here in Texas. 17. I am with Wendy, although I do not know Will (the OP) very well I have had the opportunity to see him in action working with students and he is a terrific instructor and a really nice person. After so many years in the sport and illustrating a willingness to continue to learn and better himself, more respect is deserved than comparing his accomplishments to a Cracker Jack prize. 21. You know what you sound like? PA in the form of an attached picture removed by slotperfect.
  22. I am going to quit wasting my time trying to deal with this dead skydiver’s trolling auntie. The dead skydiver died as an accident of their own making that was perpetuated by their unwillingness to adhere to a sensible approach to learning. Lesson: Skydivers who are not dead, be sensible when progressing in this sport and don’t waste your time with angry surviving relatives of dead skydivers who are bitter and want to blame the whole world for the poor decision making of their lost family member. I am done with this thread... Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
