Jumps 20 through 100: PD210 (F-111) .85WL Jumps 100 through 300 Saber 170 1.15 WL Progressed to a Stiletto by use of demos Jumps 300 through 1000 Stiletto 150 WL 1.3 1000 to present Stiletto 135 WL 1.5 (weight loss and gain 1.75 to 1.5) After jump 2000 I did a good number of jumps on other canopies going all the way down to sub 100 and it was through this experience that I asked myself if I have adequate fun on the Stiletto 135 at the 1.5WL. The answer is yes, I have fun, can get really long surfs and can bail myself out of bad situations when needed, can perform a flat turn 180 degrees from 150 feet AGL and put that canopy down in very tight spots so my decision so far has been to stick with that canopy and WL because it delivers a good balance between fun and safety. My reserve choice is a PD 150 and will not go below that. In essence, I believe I have found a canopy selection that delivers balance between fun and safety and I will probably stay there, maybe even upsize in the future but I do not anticipate ever downsizing further. Simply because regardless of the method utilized in the training, there is a progression. “Progression”, means that there is an evolution or sequence that skills are taught and learning to wave off is introduced at varying times in the an assortment of methods of instruction. Perhaps this person has not been introduced to this particular skill in the method of progression being utilized in their training. What I may believe “should” be in my understanding may not apply in another method. Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…

Worth repeating and emphasizing until it gets through. Yup... Why o why do people who are not qualified to give advice much less instruction insist on giving students "advice" online? Don't they realize that their well intentioned advice could cause a person to seriously injure themselves or worse? Why act like you know what you are talking rather than just tell a student that seeking advice from the instructors working directly with them is the best course of action? I am beginning to understand now why they are called 100 jump wonders… Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…

Getting involved in a tandem emergency - would you?
AFFI replied to Peej's topic in Photography and Video
When the shit hits the fan, usually is not time for contemplation. If something went wrong that I might be able to help fix, then I am in, probably whether I wanted to or not - being a hero would have nothing to do with it -I assume reflex would just take over. Making saves is what individuals in my vocation have trained for; it is what I live for... Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat… -

What makes a "worst" skydiver? -
You don't need a C License to get up there, for that you need an airplane. Being allowed to jump from certain altitudes has regulations that you can find in your 2007 SIM... Different DZ's may have their own requirements that may be more rigerous... USPA 2007 SIM SECTION 6-7 HIGH ALTITUDE AND OXYGEN USE D. EXPERIENCE RECOMMENDED 1. For intermediate-altitude jumps (15,000-20,000 feet MSL), participants should hold at least a USPA B license and have made 100 jumps. 2. For high-altitude jumps (20,000-40,000 feet MSL), participants should: a. hold a USPA C license b. have made at least one jump from 15,000 feet MSL or below using the same functioning bailout oxygen system Bark Bark Bark Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…

I believe that what is being suggested is for one of the JMs to be open to guide the student in the event of a high altitude opening. I am not terribly experienced as an instructor only having around 500 actual instructional jumps and I have only had one scenario where the student was opened above 10k, I had to pull them out as it was my only option before loosing the student – it was a really wild ride! I was the only JM on the dive and buzzed it down to the ground ASAP to get on the radio. The student landed where she was supposed to with MINIMAL radio assistance because the ground training was through and complete. So opening high was not at all necessary and my first priority was to follow the plan, to land and be on radio. Radios sometimes fail as well, I have that happen a few times but no issues have been created by that so far. I fail to understand how a “disservice” has been created. Hey Andrew, First off, welcome to the sport – stay safe and have fun! That means you are probably new to these forums as well eh? This tip may help you out a lot when you are looking for information. In the upper right hand quadrant of the DZ.com browser window that is a search function that works really well and is useful when seeking out information. I did a search: Your search for tipping instructors returned 162 results http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=search_results&search_forum=all&search_string=tipping%20instructors&sb=score&mh=25 Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…

Those ARE tips... After 7 years as a full time skydiver at a very busy DZ with skydiving as my SOLE vocation I can tell you first hand that tipping is greatly appreciated by 99.9% of every full time instructor I have worked with so far. And you can find 12 year old prostitutes in Miami. No doubt! Me and the Mix-man seeing eye to eye on this one I think... Am I the only one that believes that this TI should have his rating yanked? This is an incredibly stupid decision on the TI's part, the tandem student’s safety was totally disregarded - it is really hard for me to believe that this actually happened. It was worse than poor judgment – absolutely inexcusable! Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
