https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12551439/used-electric-cars-price.html “Dealers have warned that Electric Vehicles (EVs) are sitting on forecourts for 'months on end while they haemorrhage value', with some at risk of selling at a loss if the market does not recover.” “Figures revealed earlier this week also showed that sales of new zero-emission vehicles to private buyers have fallen by more than 11 per cent.” looks like it’s not just the US market that has tapped the brakes on EVs.

Construction, roofing, landscaping, demolition, heavy machinery operators, apprenticeships for plumbing, HVAV, mechanics, electricians etc. BTW those are all jobs that can not be easily automated. It’s worth noting we have eliminated tens of thousands of checkout clerk jobs and the unemployment rate remains at near or record lows.
-
We are going to need to increase our reliance on automation as many industrial regions are facing an aging workforce with birth rates well below replacement levels. China, Japan, Russia, much of the EU and yes even the United States are all demographically declining or flat-lining. Not only is automation good for our future, it’s critical.

One of my rental properties has the HVAC poop the bed at the end of July, I couldn’t get a replacement until next week. We want to get a bathroom remodel, contractor can’t get to us until sometime next year. My daughter’s bathtub has a slow drain I can’t get a plumber for two more weeks. Why? They all have more jobs than they can handle. AI can’t change a tire on your Tesla.

They said the same thing about the power loom. It was soft thinking then, it is soft thinking now.

Replaced with another conservative no doubt. The Labour Party doesn’t stand a chance as long as they promulgate net-zero nonsense. And they know it… “At Labour’s National Policy Forum (NPF) in Nottingham the following day, Starmer told his party: “We are doing something very wrong if policies put forward by the Labour party end up on each and every Tory leaflet.”

“In a press conference Wednesday, Sunak announced a series of major U-turns on climate policies, including delaying by five years the target to ban sales of new gas and diesel cars — which will now come into force in 2035 rather than 2030 — and a nine-year delay on phasing out gas boilers, which will now come into force in 2035.” Just as I have said for the last ten plus years, once the consequences of net-zero policies draw near they will be dropped like the useless, steaming piles of excrement they are. https://www.npr.org/2023/09/22/1200795496/rishi-sunak-uk-climate-policy-changes#:~:text=The government's Climate Change Committee, investment every year by 2030.

That still doesn’t make 1000 miles in one day, or explain why neither Granholm nor the CEO of Ford were able to accomplish the same feat with presumably more resources
-
Or explain why Biden is the presumptive nominee even though a majority of Democrats want an alternative.
-
I just find it curious that Buttigieg won two out of the first three contests while Biden lost three in a row. After Biden won South Carolina everyone bailed, claiming there was no path forward. Of course there was no path forward as the Democrat machine had made its choice. There was no way they would let another woman be sacrificed on the altar of progressivism, no way they would let gay man be the Democrat stander bearer and absolutely no chance of a socialist getting the nod. It used to be that Republicans fell in line while Democrats fell in love, clearly the opposite is now true.

I’m intrigued, please do share.

Aww, that is adorable. Please explain just how a reduction in US coal production that is dwarfed by the massive increase from China and India is “good for us” Unless you are referring to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecnS1Ygf0o0 which I suspect you are

Clinton was hand picked just like Biden was hand picked.
-
Reduce the rate of growth? Perhaps, however there is no sign they are going to reduce actual consumption in real terms in the foreseeable future as they are building more than two coal plants per week, each with an average lifespan of around 40 years. CO2 emissions will continue to rise for the rest of your lifetime, just as I said.

“President Barack Obama endorsed Hillary Clinton on Thursday, saying, “I don’t think there’s ever been someone so qualified to hold this office.” Obama met with Bernie Sanders in the White House and told him to stand down. I’m pretty sure that endorsing one candidate while shutting down the only viable option is literally the definition of “ hand-picked”

https://www.iea.org/news/global-coal-demand-set-to-remain-at-record-levels-in-2023# “Global coal demand is estimated to have grown by about 1.5% in the first half of 2023 to a total of about 4.7 billion tonnes, lifted by an increase of 1% in power generation and 2% in non-power industrial uses.” And to think some folks on this forum have been calling me a dead-ender and a dinosaur for correctly predicting the continued high demand for coal.

https://nypost.com/2023/09/14/granholm-squirms-when-pressed-about-gas-car-fiasco-on-ev-trip-poor-judgment/ Her road-trip only made possible by an accompanying fleet of ICE support vehicles. Ford’s CEO had a similar “red pill” experience on his trip. (Not to mention the more than four billion dollars in losses from his EV division)

Bottom line, did Trump beat Clinton? Normiss said “no he didn’t” I guess you agree?
-
No argument from me on MB maintenance costs. I just had break pads, rotors and calipers replaced on my 11yo Honda Accord coupe and it cost about the same as my wife’s 50k scheduled maintenance on the GLS

You must have flunked civics class
-
That wasn’t the question, and to be fair Trump did beat Obama’s hand picked successor.

“Jeep is generally not recognized for its reliability, landing in 19th place among major automakers in J.D. Power’s 2022 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study”

No, my wife bought it because she is a Mercedes fan-girl. But I have to say it is a nice bonus that it came set up for towing, not to mention the two inch receiver is perfect for our bike rack

I tow a utility trailer and a boat with it. With a capacity of 7700 lbs it is no slouch. We are going to be renting a camper next summer and it will be more than capable

Early adopters fueled the initial spike in electric vehicle (EV) sales, but the next wave of consumers — the more price-sensitive "early majority" — is proving to be more elusive. Mainstream shoppers aren't willing to pay a huge premium over conventional gas-powered vehicles,
