If ever we were to pursue the GND as a nation, we would become the world leader in stupidity.
-
If the GND is so great why isn't China doing it? https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-45640706
-
I stand corrected. I thought the GND was just a bunch of left wing gibberish. As AOC's intercepted message from the future proves, not only was it possible, it was wildly successful. I apologize
-
You need to take another look at the video I linked to
-
In AOC's own words, without redactions. https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2019/04/17/the_intercept_a_message_from_the_future_with_alexandria_ocasio-cortez.html Just as I said, 12 years. Some of you guys are starting to look as foolish as AOC.

Source please. I would love to learn more about reputable scientists who claim "catastrophic consequences" WILL occur in 100-300 years in the future. (I want a job like that)
-
You are quite right sir. I should never try to Speakers Corner, when I am trying to put the kids to bed, good catch.
-
I'll let you know when it happens
-
She said "we're," which is a conjunction of we and are. So she is part of the group doing the asking. My point stands, in context and without back pedaling. I say again, breathless and catastrophic.
-
Since the subject of this thread is the GND, and it’s main sponsor claimed “the world is going to end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change”. I think breathless and catastrophic are appropriate adjectives. Oh and BTW Bill, the warmists are now using terms such as “weather weirding” and “loading the dice” since there is no detectable Anthropogenic component to AGW.

Given the demographic shift in France it will be rebuilt as a Mosque

There IS a point to be made here. The whole idea of catastrophic-man-made- global warming, is predicated on the notion that higher temperatures will result in cataclysmic weather. The failure of reality to comport with the breathless predictions is at the crux of the matter.

We don't pay taxes. Only the little people pay taxes
brenthutch replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
I am a big fan of the one percent, they are responsible for much of the progress in this country, the one percenters signed nearly every paycheck I have cashed. That said, they have a responsibility to society. Not by paying more than they owe, but by paying every penny they owe. When a successful person starts to believe they are somehow exempt from the rules that govern the “little people” the hammer should be dropped with vicious intent. -
I love to watch you backpedal.
-
Can you clarify what exactly worked and what failed.
-
Thank you for understanding, that was my point. The terrible irony of succeeding by failing.
-
Did you not read my OP? I said Trump has FAILED at securing our border. I also said that the reduction/elimination of aid to the Northern Triangle countries would make the problem WORSE. I am just pointing out that the same dynamics of cultural and economic unease that lead to Trump's victory could repeat. To Stumpy's point, the position of Democrat presidential candidates will carry much more weight in 2020 than a failed budget proposal. Thus far I have yet to see a Democrat proposal that will address, what Obama's head of Homeland Security had characterized as, an emergency.

Ok guys, when a leading climate scientist says that "snow will be a rare and exciting event", and then we have colder than average temperatures and blizzards in mid April, it's ok for a little bit of fun poking. Oh Bill, BTW, my companion was not exclusively based on value, it was based on performance on a road course.
-
I have not heard of a Democrat policy that tightens control of the border. They all are based around expediting the asylum process, and having a more permissive approach. If we get to the point where hundreds of thousands of Central Americans are pouring in every month, overwhelming our ability to accommodate them, we may witness a dramatic shift in public opinion. With the current crop of Democrat candidates pandering to the most left wing of their constituency, it is not hard to imagine a backlash.
-
Ask anyone in the Chicago area how their global warming is coming along. ROTFLMAO!
-
I'm beginning to think that Trump's biggest campaign promise failure may lead to his reelection. A continued increase in the rate of illegal crossings combined with the reflexive opposition to any border security measures by the Dems may flip public opinion. When crossings were around 50k per month, it was no big deal. Now that is 100k a month, it has been widely acknowledged that we have a problem. If the trend continues, which it may well now that Trump has cut aid to the Northern Triangle, we could have 200k+. That could be a game changer.

My 2013 Accord is worth around $10K (it cost me <35K new), a 2014 Tesla model S is worth around $40K. (>$129K new) I can sustain a governed speed of 135 indefinitely. After the Tesla is forced into low power mode, I have better acceleration, better handling, better breaks and a higher top speed, I have duel climate control, heated power leather seat, backup camera, lane departure warning, blind spot camera, proximity warning, premium stereo, Bluetooth, GPS multi-screen infotainment center, yada yada yada...Who got the better deal?
-
Wait, wait. So the lack of global warming is due to reduced solar activity, but the presence of warming is because of CO2? Have you ever considered that the sun MIGHT have something to do with the warming?
-
OTOH my V6, VTech, six speed Accord coupe would spank a Tesla on a road track. https://www.thedrive.com/news/5207/this-video-reminds-us-that-the-tesla-model-s-is-an-awful-track-car

From the warmist site Climate Central, “The last time there was this much carbon dioxide (CO2) in the Earth's atmosphere, modern humans didn't exist. Megatoothed sharks prowled the oceans, the world's seas were up to 100 feet higher than they are today, and the global average surface temperature was up to 11°F warmer than it is now.” If CO2 were a significant driver of climate, seas would be a hundred feet higher and temperatures would be 11 degrees F warmer than they are today and we NEVER would have had an ice age with levels 8X what they are today. Oh and BTW the planet survived. Bill, my initial 0-60 times were based on the manufactures' claims. After looking into it further the Tesla looks to have the edge (consistently)
