Slowest start to Atlantic hurricane season…
brenthutch replied to brenthutch's topic in Speakers Corner
From your link The SREX (Seneviratne et al., 2012) assessed low confidence for observed changes in the magnitude or frequency of floods at the global scale Evidence on observed drought trends was limited at the time of SREX (Chapter 3) and AR5 (Chapter 2). The SREX concluded: ‘There is medium confidence that since the 1950s some regions of the world have experienced a trend to more intense and longer droughts, in particular in southern Europe and west Africa, but in some regions droughts have become less frequent, less intense, or shorter, There is low confidence in most reported long-term (multi-decadal to centennial) trends in TC frequency- or intensity Observed trends in severe convective storms are highly regionally dependent. In the USA, it is indicated that there is no significant increase in convective storms, and hail and severe thunderstorms . The AR5 reported a weakening of mean and maximum winds from the 1960s or 1970s to the early 2000s in the tropics and mid-latitudes, and increases in high latitudes, but with low confidence in changes in the observed surface winds over land That is not me it comes from the IPCC. The problem is that too many folks don’t know the difference between an observation and a prediction. More from the national hurricane center today There are no tropical cyclones in the Atlantic at this time. There are no tropical cyclones in the Eastern North Pacific at this time There are no tropical cyclones in the Central North Pacific at this time. -

Slowest start to Atlantic hurricane season…
brenthutch replied to brenthutch's topic in Speakers Corner
What you guys are all missing, is there has been NO TREND in Atlantic cyclones due to higher levels of CO2. For that matter NOAA and the IPCC have observed no statistically significant increase in any meteorological phenomenon. It would seem that the much ballyhooed “climate catastrophe” is just a big nothing burger. It looks like Olof is going to go from to. Kallend OTOH is a deep thinking intellectual whose brilliant insights are breathtaking . “He’s a Troll, he’s a Troll, he’s a Troll, he’s a Troll” is truly inspirational content. -
The Continent’s Consensus on Climate?……Crumbling

Just how would being a “climate change champion” (whatever that is) would show I cared about other people? -

Who did? DeSantis did better than Newsom but the virus did what viruses do, nobody was unscathed.

In more than a decade, confounding the experts who predicted we could see our first named storm as early as May. ”The more we know we learn just how little we know” (paraphrasing A.E.)

Average folks faired better during the Trump administration, inflation interest rates were a fraction of what they are now under the Biden Administration. Real wages for the average American have gone down, crisis at the border, interest rates making housing unaffordable… all under JB.
-
From the BBC “Nobody’s excited about Biden right now,” claimed David Sacks, an influential investor, on his popular All In podcast. “There’s a lot of people who I do think support Trump.” The billionaire venture capitalist is holding a fundraiser for Trump at his mansion on “billionaire’s row” in San Francisco on Thursday evening.” I guess billionaires can be moms and pops too.

“Petrodollars are oil export revenues denominated in U.S. dollars. Petrodollars are not a distinct currency; they are simply U.S. dollars accepted as payment by an oil exporter” Class dismissed
-
You need to learn the difference between fiscal policy and monetary policy. BTW inflation during Trump 2.1% 1.9% 2.3% and 1.4% Biden 7.00% 6.5% 3.4%
-
The money was raised by/from Silicon Valley millionaires not working class MAGA types.
-
Did you get the news? “Crude oil is quoted in U.S. dollars (USD). Countries that import oil pay for it in the greenback. Similarly, those that export the commodity receive payment in USD. This system dates back to the early 1970s after the collapse of the Bretton Woods gold standard. This period saw the rise of the petrodollar system, which promoted the U.S. dollar's rise as the world's reserve currency. Oil producers and purchasers use this system to trade in the commodity in U.S. dollars.”

The world economy runs largely on dollars, but you knew that already.
-
Many countries took advantage of the pandemic and had a money printing party.

Yes Trump is all of those things but the border was secure and wages were rising faster than inflation. The average American was doing better during the Trump administration than during the Biden Administration. When asked the question “are you better off today than four years ago, most Americans, according to polls, say no. That is just a cold hard fact. We just spent about a trillion dollars of our children’s money on a bogus Green New Deal Lite. The only thing that will accomplish is raising electricity bills and lining the pockets of Democrat cronies. It will NOT lower global CO2, it will NOT lower global temperatures, it will NOT lead to a magical energy transformation. From the Washington Post “But now, more than two years after Congress allocated $7.5 billion to help build out those stations, only 7 EV charging stations are operational across four states.”
-
No but they are better than the alternative. The massive deficit spending in the American Rescue Plan and the ironically named Inflation Reduction Act are the primary reason for the highest levels of inflation in a generation.
-
How is this? The House Republicans are largely a bunch of chickenshits who will do whatever the dumbass Trump tells them to do. And I don’t think Trump could even find Ukraine on a map.
-
The Republican controlled House approved $95 billion in Ukrainian aid.

Pelosi lost the gavel and that’s red wave enough for me

EV's / hybrids as a hedge against natual disasters

You are correct, I misread that and took it to say down by 82.5% -
EV's / hybrids as a hedge against natual disasters
brenthutch replied to billvon's topic in Speakers Corner
“While there is some variation from year to year, it seems that a car loses around 1% of range a year for the first 7 years or so, but then the rates increases. By ten years of age, cars were down to 82.5% of the original capacity.” A <20% EV battery is not going to save the day. -

And an 11 year old EV will “just work”? Oh I guess we don’t know as we have yet to see an eleven year old EV save the day.
