right exactly loose or badly guarded material in the former soviet republics is a far greater threat. A terrorist - may just steal it and not pay lots of money (which aslo leaves a trail) - won't have to deal with a government that would have to fear serious repercussions if a nuclear terror attack had been carried with their weapons and consent. - has less military or secret service surveillance to worry about. I looked around only briefly and found only this article about what will happen with the reward. Here the quote: Unclear was whether a $25 million reward for information leading to Zarqawi's death or capture would be paid; Zalmay Khalilzad, the U.S. ambassador to Iraq, told CNN that the information on Zarqawi came from captured al-Qaida in Iraq sympathizers questioned by Americans. But Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki told Iraqi television that the reward would be "honored." Would that mean $25 Mio will be paid to an al-Qaida member? Some previously posted article speculated that the old al-Qaida delivered Zarqawi since he seemed to become a liability for the organization. But here's another speculation you may entertain: The (al-Qaida inspired) insurgency was in dire straits for money and Zarqawi took one for the team. Thanks to your tax US $'s they can now buy more guns and explosives. yeah right - Saddam was about to shoot down all patrol planes in the NoFlyZones, rapidly reestablish air supremacy within Iraq, use this to expand and technologically advance his military by a few decades before anyone could blink. He then readily would have reoccupied Kuwait and Iran, opened a crusade through Saudi Arabia into Northern Africa, while keeping his northern border secure via a secret pact with Putin. This of course he would also eventually violate, and after a sweep through the former Soviet republics all of Europe would be surrounded and easy prey. Once he has sacked that continent he'd have the biggest naval bases from which he could conquer the Americas. Whew, thank god we got to him just in time .... he may not - HU Business practices "Socratic Dialog" so if you're a quick talker you may get by without being confronted by a lot of hard-fact-testing. Probably the biggest hurdle to get a degree from this school is to get in - and that he managed to take. As to the question of qualification the GMAT is the standard admission test for any serious business school. It would the way to measure whether a candidate is prepared for a serious MBA program irrespective of what their previous Curriculum Vitae looks like. I'm wondering if either this guy of GWB even ever took the test (which exists since the early 50's) and, if so, how they did. Source: TCS Daily why should that be surprising. privileged children are more likely to be able to afford college, and beside the money they will get from mom and dad also the guidance which party is better for their income tax etc. to some extend graduates from professional schools will also have the "I earned so why share it" attitude. However, once you start going up the academic ranks, (Masters, PhD, post-doctoral fellows, professors) the percentage of conservatives exponentially decreases to near extinction. why do you want to guess what's easy to look up It started with a succession of militaries - which is perhaps not a surprise since the agency is a spin-off from the OSS. After Dulles, the first civilian, got the job in 1953 there were two more occurences of militaries in `65-`66 and `77-`81 among 13 civilian directors in all other years. interesting theory - though the wiretapping w/o warrants story was long before anyone really anticipated Goss' resignation. my-oh-my ... getting a bit touchy here, huh ... I didn't make any of this stuff up - it's just what you hear and read everyday - some of it from high-up republican senators. In any case the question is not whether Hayden should be confirmed but whether he will be confirmed. General Michael Hayden has been nominated new CIA director by GWB and is facing congress confirmation. This nomination has created a fair amount of discussion. The NSA he headed since 1999 has made the headlines twice recently with wiretapping and phone data banks. Many think a military man should not head a civilian organization. Others go so far to speculate that the admin wants to get rid of a civilian CIA (i.e., eradicate the agency they conveniently blame for the WMD fiasko) and Hayden is the executioner. How do you think Hayden's confirmation will go? Alright, put down the bong and step back of course there will always be a few left over who consider Bush's performance as better than Clinton's. However, the questions was not what your opinion is, but what you think the public's opinion will be. Massachusetts, who was Mr. Bush's opponent in 2004, had a lower approval rating than Mr. Bush: 26 percent, down from 40 percent in a poll conducted right after the election. just as a few general questions on this - this seemed to be a nationally conducted poll so how would a person from Idaho evaluate whether a senator from Massachusetts is properly representing his state? - How exactly do you compare perfomance in an executive position with performance in a legislative position. - How do the rest of the votes split up between "don't know" and outright "disapproval"? If you really want to compare the two job approval ratings don't seem to make much sense - favorability is perhaps more adequate as they less tied to a particular job or function. For Kerry the latest ones (Pew/FOX February 06) hover in the mid 40's. For Bush the same polls at the same time give roughly the same numbers. However, polls from a couple of month later (not available for Kerry) paint a more grim picture for Bush. In any case not a lot of people were enthusiastic about Kerry. Many however felt a candidate with a significant service record was the only chance to counter the militaristic and red-alert bullying of a bunch of chickenhawks. The one thing democrats should learn from this is that you should never underestimate the gap between the legislative and executive branch. Only few can straddle both. Very significantly increased risks of poor growth, low birth weight, cerebral palsy, stillbirths , mental retardation and learning problems, etc are all routinely linked to smoking during pregnancy. Also later babies will be 3 times more likely to die formSIDS. Additionally she will likely make the infant a passive smoker lateron, creating an enormous propensity for any type of repiratory problem and defect you can think of. And then there are many things that haven't been studied very much, but that simply cannot be good - such as effects of nicotine adiction on the fetus. Generally, if you ever looked into research of environmental factors on prenatal development and how it can negatively affect people in their later development ou will find much more benin things (such as daylight exposure) are having significant influence on fetus and child development. I will presumably get rosted for this but can't help it: A mother who claims that smoking during pregnancy is not a problem at all doesn't know her cervix form a hole in the ground. probably true two ro three years ago. But that name seems to have lost much of its fizz in recent time. Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri are effectively emeriti with not much bang lately to rally islamic nut jobs or shock the west. However, thanks to the Iraq war catalyst, Al Qaeda has a widely recognized and lively new management led by Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi. The old Al Quaeda is a bit scattered but its iraqi reincarnation is alive an kicking with more than fluent recruitment. Assuming GWB will remain in office until 2008 and there are no big attacks of the 9/11-magnitude what will be end-of-term approval rating of Bush junior in 2008? Compare with historical data Of course, this is still a long time and depends on many factors. Presidents have turned around record low approval ratings - usually by refocussing public attention on more favorable issues, but I doubt there are very many left for GWB. In the last few years his ratings have dropped relatively steadily by around 10% a year despite reoccuring reassurances of conservative pundits that ratings are "finally leveling out". I cannot find a reference to "paying respect to anyhting" in the original post - but everyone seems to cite it. I doubt the kids would have much of a higher conception of "respect" anyway. Getting them to quiet down and gather their focus for the upcoming lessons seems like an OK idea to me. It seems like a minute well spent.
