  1. I have used my 3-ring cutaway a number of times, I like the system and think that for the type of jumping I do I need a quick and easy cutaway system. I have personaly cut my canopy away: >Hanging in trees (Cops on route and back country) >Canopy hooked on Pole (downtown) >Intentional still water landings (much easier to swim if cutaway and pulled by PC) > I also use it for faster get aways when needed. I stuff my rig leaving my harness and helmet on and run. When I reach my car i cut my rigg and drive. I also heard about a guy who landed next to fast flowing water, his canopy droppedin and dragged him in with it (integral risers). He drowned. This is second or third hand info............... anyone know any more?? Greeny

    SOLO WS off an A

Faber, I only have 3 solo antenna WS jumps but I usually climb with the rig in my stash bag (WS on rigg as it would be prior to kitting up for a plane jump). On reaching the closest platform to my exit I strap in to my kit as normal but leave arms free and legs if I still need to climb the ladder. At the last place I feel stable I zip my legs in. (this can be done on a vertical ladder). Once in exit position I zip my arms in. On my local 'A' this is done kneeling on a 4inch wide rail holding onto the vertical lightning conductor for support. All I need to do now is stand up and exit. Greeny
  4. Sorry to get picky Tom, but in ref to: Was 9-lives 79ft jump done over solid ground? I ask because I believe the 63' jump on Fixed 2 was done into water! We often jump our local 100ft cliff into water with no riggs. Low base jump records should only count if done over solid ground. That said doing them over water is a great way of test jumping at low heights to see if you want to progress back to the land. Greeny
  5. Sorry mate but you already did it was just to dark for you to see it. Mine says fox right the way across the bottom. Yes its a bitch to pack in the dark but thats what I get for black lines on a black and olive green canopy but I like it.

    Water landings

I believe but may be wrong that: As fabric gets wet and then dries it can shrink. This shrinking won't be equal, so may lead to suttle changes in canopy geometry and line lengths. Salt damages most things. BASE gear must be fully rinsed in fresh water after a salt water landing. Take you time and do this properly. Jumping does this to your gear anyway, I think the water just exagerates it. My MOJO has had 5 water landings, 2 of them in salt and it still seams to fly OK...............
  7. Quote. [The bottom line is that our brains are hard-wired for us to be land dwellers on two feet. This hard-wiring creates the voices in our heads as we climb towers or head toward and exit point.] Ever since I can remember, every time I've stood some where high ( up a tree, a first floor window, a tower block balcony, up a anntenna. I was climbing anntennas before I new BASE existed ), all I've wanted to do was jump. My problem isn't stepping off the edge, its talking myself into staying on it, when I go up high without my rig. I was never 'hard-wired' to the floor. They just forgot to give me wings.
  8. It took 121 jumps for me to get myself into a situation that Mr Blind Luck could no longer get me out of. I believe that that makes my odds of walking away from the next jump 99.2%. I can live with that, for now.
  9. To the moderators on both sites: I think it would be good if when you deleted a post it was replaced with a short message saying why. I don't think it would be much work, but it might stop alot of bad feeling building up.
  10. I've been trying to edit some fotage using Adrobe Premiere 6LE. The fotage was imported on to my Sony Vio from a Sony PC 110 camara. The imported fotage is fine and when I review it on my time line it looks fine but when I try to burn it back on to my hard drive as a movie it loses a lot of quality (becomes unwatchable). Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?
  11. What suits do people consider the best at the moment? What are the best glide ratios being achived? What are the lowest vertical speeds? I'm currently flying a BM classic which I love I'm just looking for options as I'd like to replace it.
  12. >>>>As far as the hangglider license thing, how about putting jump limits on the local As? Moab style. And then enforcing that number without prejudice...
  13. >>>>The other logical opinion is to limit the number of people that can attend FJCs, and "prohibit" experienced jumpers from showing their friends how to jump... Maybe FJCs that require 500+ skydives, no exceptions. Otherwise, with every BR, CR, Morpheus, and Vertigo FJC class, the problem continues to grow...
  14. To those of you how know who you are " thank you for all your help and hospitality." If your talking about what I think you are, good luck and don't lose it, its too good for that.
  15. I can hear a gentle humming in my ears. The sound of a car engine, coming down the hill. I manage to lift my head only a few inchs off the rocks. Nothing will focus. The car passes unseen behind a mound of earth. I lower my head softly back to the cold, hard ground. Absorbed once more by sleep...... ........I'm cold. Really cold. My fingers are numb, I can't push myself up onto my knees. There's just no strength in my arms. Another car whistles by, blinding me with its lights. I could reach out and touch it, but all I can do is watch, as the tail lights fade into the darkness. I can't remember anything since leaving the DZ. I know what I've done. I'm face down at the bottom of an object I know well. Its not hard to work out. I'm in my harness. I'm wearing my full face. My fox is spread around me. Brakes still stowed. Another set of head lamps push back the night. The frost glisserns on the rocks, before I'm plunged back into darkness. I stuff my rigg and try to pull my self to my feet. One hand on the cliff, one hand on the stuff sack. I'm trying to focus, trying to let go of the wall, without falling down. God I'm cold. I'm shivering uncontrolably, but wait, there's my car. If it had been any closer I'd have landed on it. Staggering over, I lean on the trunk to drop my container off. Its wet. Looking down at my hands, they're red with blood. I stare up at the exit point, I don't remember leaving. I don't even remember driving in here. Slumped in the drivers seat head pounding, I fire the engine, kick in the heaters, but all I want to do is sleep. I rest my head on the wheel, I just feel numb. No pain , just no power. My body doesn't want to play. I mustn't sleep. I need to drive. I'm a hundred miles from home. Its getting light and I need to be at work. I slip her into first, flip on the lights and roll out of the most beautiful place I have ever seen. The moon light makes the cliffs glow. I only make it ten miles, down to the first gas station. As I go to get out of the car I realise I'm still wearing my helmet. Reaching up to take it off, I feel a warm tricle running down my back. The guy looked at me prity funny as I paid for my coffee, but he didn't say a thing. I guess he just figured it would be better just not to ask........
