  1. I was up there a few weeks ago and one of the boys jumped a round into the middle of the river. It was planned, I'm sure it was cold but he pulled himself and gear out with out too much problem. Greeny
  2. I have a ZP topskin FOX with Multi, V-Tec, 5th line I like it alot, For terminal & wingsuit jumps I use my large mest slide with just a primary stow. I don't roll my nose I leave it wide open. My openings are possitive but I, like to know my canopy will be there when I ask for it. Packing a full ZP top skin is not a problem you get used to it very quickly. I also like the integraty of a single material top skin It is hard to conpare it to my non ZP canopy a MOJO as there are so many other difference (vents ect) Greeny PM me if you need more
  3. Quote [Why does it have to be a governing body? That’s your problem right there!] Correct! Quote [However some sort of organisation promoting BASE venues and events, may make possible progress with the likes of the NPS and land\object owners etc.] A lot of us supported The Alliance Of Backcountry Paracutists and would be happy to give time and effort for our fight for legal access. I think our organised legal events are good for the sport as a whole. KL tour Bridge Day GoFast Games UK ProBase Crane events (and all the others I have missed) I think if organised and conducted right it helps to change the public image of BASE Jumpers from 'crazy with a death wish' to 'Profesional sportsmen'. I do feel though we need to keep a destintion between the 'Public' and the 'Undergound' sides of BASE. The 'public' events are governed (and rightly so) by the organisers. They set the jump numbers, jump types ect ect that is acceptable at that event. It has to be that way because the public face of BASE needs to be as accident free as possible. The 'underground' side of base should never and I would say will never be goverened by anyone other than the jumper with his toes on the exit point. Self regulated? Yes Goverened? NO I see a big difference.................... Greeny
  4. It has nothing to do with egos Laird said and I quote [ but legal jumps are just for practicing your BASE skills without the pressure of getting caught (right?).] May be I read that wrong but I'm sure it means everything legal is just training for the illegal! I'm just saying Laird is talking out of his arse....... and obvoiusly hasn't got a clue. I assume seeing as you (MFNREN) are sticking up for him you are jumping buddies & therefore guilty by assotiation Greeny
  5. Quote [Your assuming I haven't.] I have no interest in who you are or what you have done, therefore I assume nothing I’m biting at the fact you come across as the only jumps worth doing are the high profile / high bust in town jumps. Quote [but legal jumps are just for practicing your BASE skills without the pressure of getting caught (right?) ] Wrong! Most legal sites are jumped because the jumps are outstanding in there own way and nothing to do with training specifically (except that every jump is training for the next) and if like you say you have you had been out and done some you would know that! If that is not what you were saying I suggest you rewrite your post. Greeny
  6. I beleive the only place BASE is still a crime is in the NPs every other building antenna span or earth I jumped must therefore just have been training for that one jump. I guess I only ever made one 'REAL' BASE jump Grow some balls, come play in the back country I'm sure we can give you jumps that will add more pressure than the cops ever could. Jumps thast will leave you sat at the bottom giggling like a little school girl just because your alive Your big wide smooth road landing areas will never be the same again. Get a life my friend................ Greeny
  7. Quote[(very subjective) Slider down heading performance is worse on the Flik] 20 jumps doesn't seem to be much for comparison. How were conditions? How was your body position? How was your packing? What are you basing your opinion on? Greeny
  8. Quote [if we develop more local groups exerting somoe form of control, I can see them banding together t form an overall governing organization.] My question is still the same What are you going to do? Hang out on objects on moonlit mights and check log books, maybe give tickets for low pulls / unstable exits. If you organise a legal demo jump (KL ect) you can choose who comes, you can choose the criteria, but for everything else, leave us alone! let us self regulate for those who can't I am sure Darwin will Why do you even want a govening body? What do you think it will do for you / change for the better for you? Govening bodys are for the sheep of this world who feel lost when not being told what to do and how to do it! Trust me you are missing something.................. Greeny
  9. Pete, i am 50 / 50 if I will make the crain boogie but if I do you can jump my ZP fox Greeny
  10. I joined BASE for the freedom, I don't listen to the rules set by the goverment, police. NPS ect. why would I be interested in yours? What are you going to do? Hang out at objects and check my log book before you let me jump. I jump my objects When I want My way That is BASE for me................... Greeny
  11. I love my foxes. both V-Tec, ZP Top skin, mulit, 5th line What do you want to know? Greeny

Quote [The rig he was jumping is a Paraavis Beast -- you can see that it has two cutaway handles, one for each riser, for no reason that I can comprehend. I don't know if it was of any consequence in this incident.] I don't know if this relates to his BASE rigg or not but I used to jump military riggs that had an option to cut away a single riser. The right handle cut away the right riser only. The left handle was a single operating system. The first part of the pull cut both risers the second half of the pull fired the reserve. It was a very simple system all you had to do to get off the main was pull the left handle. It also had the advantage that on the DZ or in the water you could release one riser and instantly deflate the canopy with out losing it or risking the RSL kicking in. I have swum with it and it was quite normal to cut one riser on entering the water. I am sure we have lost at least two other jumpers to water due to being dragged into moving water by canopies they were tiring to save or couldn't cut. Only knowing what is posted here, I'm sure cold was the major factor but if you do not cur away you canopy on entering the water it will re-inflate with water the same way it does with air and you will go no where when you swim. My advice on entering water with a canopy is cut it away and get a little separation. Swim around to the PC and tow it by the bridle. This makes sure the canopy does not re-inflate and keeps your legs clear of all the line. As I said I don’t know if any of this affected the incident.
  13. Managed to talk my girlfriend out of being a Tandam with aguy who was trying to do one at KL. Spoke to anouther girl recently who the same guy tried to talk into going of perrine. he has a rig he built for it, so not as unbelieveable as you might think. All very scary Greeny

What if i jump from 190 and pitch after I clear the rather large ledge at 173?? (no it wasn't on video and I'm not sure I ant to do it again) Greeny
  15. Firstly I have never jumped a Blackjack. I have taken 2 different sizes of Flick both terminal and off 173ft freefall The Flick is a very versatile canopy I do have 270 jumps on full ZP topskin Foxs Talk to Todd Talk to Adam But don’t make you decision based on a bias that they are hard to pack It will take you 2-3 pack jobs and then you’ll find the canopy will go in the container sweet every time. I have heard the arguments that most of the benefit is in the from 30%. Well I want all the benefit I do not believe Todd will build you a ZP top skin canopy without the Multi Due to the reduced friction (in the pack job) the multi is needed to keep it together as it lifts. But talk to him and here it from him. I like my opening with my Multi it stays on for everything from wingsuit to low freefall I am sure the people who jump the Blackjack like their blackjacks too As I said talk to everyone Greeny

Slider down, canopy opens faster (uses less altitude to open and vertical speeds are lower so it is easier to judge. Is a Freefall from 160ft automaticly a low up?? Greeny
  17. It is Indian land not NPS lets go talk and see the price for a mass permit. It would make a great place for a heli boogy. I am sure both jumpers and tourists would come and the owners could make a tidy profit. Greeny
  18. Cheers for the help. Problem solved. I found a geek at the DZ who reloaded my USB - Serial drivers. All is now working well currently able to upload tracks to Tracking derby . com and then view in Google Earth Greeny
  19. I have just purchased a Garmin Foretrex 201 I am trying to down load my saved tracks to my Sony Vaio laptop but can not get it to connect / recognise the GPS I am trying to do it via the Garmin Serial Cable that came with the unit via a Radio Shack Serial to USB converter cable as my laptop does not have a serial port I have been trying to use the software I downloaded off the Tracking Derby . com website I have also tried to connect the GPS unit to my PC via the PCs serial port just useing the Garmin serial cable and the Tracking Derby software but also got a nil response we have been trying this with 2 units and 2 sets of cables so I do not believe this to be a hardware issue any help / advice would be appriciated. Toxic PC's

Found a thread on Blinc, but can't log in or re register: Who is building the TOXIC PC's? Who can give me more in formation on them? Greeny
  21. I think like Tom says keep it simple and just carry a couple of spare carry with you static lines, Inspect them after every jump and replace as needed. The one you used worked great. It did its job. Your rigg opened and you left nothing on the Building. What more can we want they are a desposable item as far as I am concerned. The wire ones are still going to get kinked or have individual wires break, they are still going to need replacing. I think they have more chance / ways to hang up. Good jump by the way, beautiful B I'll give you a call as soon as the wind dies and we'll go play Greeny

    Balloons to BASE

Ballon & helicopter jumps can be a good way to get a feel for low / zero airspeed exits. It never hurts to have a couple of these under your belt. I have a ballon pilot who is willing to drop us a various altitudes. Exiting a ballon at 200ft + an a skydive rig I see as a skydive Exiting the same ballon at 300ft on my BASE rig has much more in common with a base jump. If he is going up and I can get on I go. I have 300ft - 500ft over a big grassy landing area gives me a nice safe (nothing to hit) training / testing jump. I don't log them as BASE jumps becasuse they are not but they can be fun. Greeny
