I thought the common charge was Reckless Endangerment - if so, it's easily argued in court that base jumping is not reckless. Reckless means behavior or demeanor which evidences a lack of concern for consequences or acting in a manner that evidences absent due consideration of risks. Another definition is: A person commits the crime of reckless endangerment if the person recklessly engages in conduct which creates a substantial risk of serious physical injury to another person. - So it's not illegal if it only affects yourself. I know I give all the risks involved due consideration - otherwise I wouldn't jump! If base jumpers were recklass, there would be a lot less of us, and there would be many more cases of property damage and worse. Doesn't mean that it will slow down the cops from charging you with that crime - it just means it's a stupid charge.

Sorry for the deleted post, it's hard to ask my question without identifying the object in question. If you're familiar with tower setups, hot towers & live antennas specifically, please let me know via PM so I can get your opinion on something. I have schematics and photos of the system in question I'd love to have someone look over so I don't get fried. Thanks, sum1

BASE is now the acronym for a new strain of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (aka Mad Cow) - but I thought it was interesting that: I'm not sure BASE doesn't affect the nerves connected to my digestive tract, I often feel like micturating at the exit point! More on the article here in the journal of american veterinary medical association news - also, check out the crazy astrocytic brain cell they've found, it looks just like a cow head!
-
this is some of the object's visible history: - two people seen jumping in daylight over early arriving work crews - two people ask workers if they would give some jumpers a lift in the crane, worker agrees then object turns hot before they can make good on the arrangements - two new jumpers say they saw a person jump the fence and start climbing the tower while they are on it, they jump in front of that person (who was this person who saw these jumpers?!) - the fence is seeing repeated mutilations for weeks - a jumper walks up to someone working at the tower and strikes up conversation... uses a good aliby for being there and then mutates the topic onto BASE, effectively ruining that useful alibi for better situatiuons at this object and also letting the people know that BASE jumpers are actively jumping this object still, despite the fence. - motion sensor put in, jumpers activate the alarm and boogie, never looking back to see if the heat arrives. the fact is that people have been seen jumping this object (yourself or your cronies included), walking all around it, or actually going right up to the workers and talking about BASE.

I think it sounded more like this

nicely put MH. you know who you are, what happened to calling the locals?! Just 'cause you're from around here, doesn't mean you don't call to find out the scoop! There were MUCH better ways to go about jumping that tower - we would have shown you the ropes had you given your fellow jumpers some respect. I'm glad I'm not you.
-
The MERLIN looks like a pretty tremendous w/s container as well. You might ask a big wingsuiter like 416 what they think you should get started with.
-
What are the advantages of using the rope bridle? It looks like your PC is extended beyond the SL attachment point - is there a reason for this?

I also have a safety jacket but I find it restricts raising my arms up - I still am able to reach the toggles/risers etc... but it just feels restrictive which sort of feels wrong standing on some exit points. I was thinking of removing the hard shoulder pad shell - thinking this might help - but then that shell might be nice in a knarly PLF someday. Does anyone have any experience with hurting your shoulder from a vicious PLF? Not sure how much force goes there b/c I've only PLF'd a couple of times on relatively soft ground. Anyone remove your shoulder pads from the dainese safety jacket?

I'm already destroyed by staying in this society, I can't imagine how destroyed I'd become spending life in jail. MH, forget about what ever it was I told you I could do... and remember we never talked about, or even seen the sight, of the secret base site website, sites, or siteses?...

I'm not sure exactly how the man would scope such a secure site... The database can be secured to specific users and passwords just like any business database is structured. The man doesn't really have motivation to hack such a database as long as it is cammo'd as another sort of business. It could for instance, look like an insurance site where you login to access your policy details, but that takes you to a secure connection that turns into the secret BASE website.. I'm not sure about a secure forum, but I know a normal website could be at least as secure as your banking details etc...

when i decide to go stowed it's usually in a place where i know i'll get a stable launch and pull at an altitude high enough where a pc-hesitation won't kill me or put me in a knarly place. i don't care which mushrooming technique you use, there's always that chance your mushroom could open slow and give you a fast trip...

I'm off to Moab today for several days and would love to hook up with anyone in the area for some jumps. I'll be checking in with Vertigo and Clint, if you're in the area and want company, just hollar to one of them and I'll find you. thanks, happy hucking.

I thought a bit of this web research I've been doing might come in handy for any of you seen at the site of an "A" - by land owners or even the man . We all know it's best to have your story ready.. so here's what I say: "My name is Mickey Mouse, I'm a member of the American Bird Conservancy - we are volunteering our time to collect data concerning avian collisions with communication towers. We had some poor weather the other night, and often times the lights confuse the birds and they strike the towers. I'm just looking around for carcasses so we can identify which regions in the US we have this problem, which species are involved, and what the FAA and FCC can do to help change the issue. We have found for instance, a lot less mortality around towers with white strobes as opposed to red. You know, over at the _______ tower - we find around 500 dead birds a month! I've never found any here! Some species have more cones in their retina than others and they get really screwed up by pulsing red lights. Don't worry, there's no problem for you landowners, the issue is with the FAA!"... ... ... You can pretty much talk anyone's ear off on and on about this - it helps to look like a birder and carry a printout of one of the great big articles found below. Here's a couple resources to get you going: http://www.abcbirds.org/policy/towerkill.htm - ABC's tower kill page http://www.towerkill.com/workshop/proceedings/index.html - articles concerning towerkills http://migratorybirds.fws.gov/issues/towers/towers.htm - US Fish & Wildlife Service page http://www.cafeshops.com/biologybase/144126 - alibi for your car

i got my jacket for the spine protector... i'd say you're missing what it would feel like to plant your back against a pointy rock after you overamp your rear riser flare after clearing your first base line over - or maybe it was getting a 180 with line twists because you slipped on exit from the E and your back slams into the wall just as you're grabbing risers - or maybe your missing all the stuff that can happen that none of us can even fathom. 'course taking risks is what the sport's about, every jump is a gamble - body armor or not.

yeah, I was within 5 feet of that truck when he hit and I can still hear the sound resonate... and that was after he almost wound up in two different trees! Sorry who ever you are who rammed your noggin into that bumper, but you're going to find it tough to live that one down! I say all this knowing that some day, some where, I'll likely fuck myself up simmilarly so that it makes a loud noise... and then you can make posts about it on the internet. :)

wait, I never heard it was another charge to have a scanner involved... wtf?

Please build a 1200' free-stander with a 6 person 1 minute elevator and a big railing-less deck up top. let me know when it's ready thanks

Hey guys, anyone who's seen this video know what's up with that skinny climber-looking dude dancing around with panties over his jeans? WTF? Just a little FYI: I found Continuum for sale for just a hair cheeper on triax's website - looks like they also have a list you can get on for Continuum II. http://www.triaxproductions.com

There's all those countless stories of object strikes going through my head at every exit point... so I know that anytime there is the option of running off a solid object I'm going to do it! It just gives my butt a little better odds of turning around a 180 with line twists by giving me more separation. It does require a fairly clean approach which is rarely the case. 10 meters might be pushing it... just a few steps seems to work well. I want to be certain where my last step will be so that it's not short or long! I haven't noticed a difficulty with balance or body position as long as I think about my body position before I launch, but I don't do aerials either - I'm sure that adds many more variables to the mix - if I was doing them I know I'd rather complete a gainer and end up close to the cliff than stall it out five feet farther out. Notice I speak only in the first person - everyone should make their own decisions.

Anyone have any experience with the Rockgardn Flak Jacket? It looks to me alot like the Dainese but for less cost... What do you think? http://www.cambriabike.com/dh/rockgardn_flak_jacket.htm

Actually was able to convince my mom it would be okay for me to base jump instead of eat turkey with the family. Therefore, I'm showing up Thursday morning... anyone got an extra place for me to crash thursday night?
-
I can be expected at least on Saturday, but I'm going to try to make sunset load Friday. I will be driving down from the boat instead of the fort.

Oh yeah, I can think of a guy who deserves this treatment. - Same story = my first solo w/o ground crew. Too bad I didn't have a permanant marker - I'd have written base first on his forehead. Nice job! Hope you find some better jumping friends that have their priorities right. sneak
