I think whatever canopy it is, the drag from a PC diminishes performance... I can think of several objects where this may drastically improve my ability to reach nice LZ's versus ending up in talus - and therefore I'd be interested in a sort of PC collapser for these specific jumps. I thought people were using diapers or something like that, as opposed to a kill line - because fabric around the bridle is pretty obvious and therefore it's harder to pack yourself a total mal than it is with a kill line. Going handheld as well, I see little possibility for the fabric to collapse the PC prior to the PC doing its job. Who knows about making one of these? I'd be interested to see some designs.

Many thanks to our fellow broken jumper who just provided quite possibly the best groundcrew ever! Such a slick and smooth operation may never hit that building again! Cheers dude, thanks for all your effort and where-with-all!

I'd try calling clint. If he's not free he might know someone who is.

Oh, we have a skinny little 180' free-stander that likes to sway as people jump - that's why I'd prefer to go first! But you're right, the big ones don't really move at all. Hey Vandev, quit being such a skydiver and get out and climb a big tower ladder! sum1 PS: If the wet-back gimp is reading this, please let me know if you're coming to my party Friday and if you'll need a ride. Anyone else want to come to my party - we'll be having a flaming vagina...

I'm not sure it matters what we do to get our money...Tell your dad that by making judgments about people based on their career or occupation is probably going to be misleading more often than not! He'll end up judging me to be XXXX, when he's never even met me, it's just too narrow minded - there are all kinds of people in all kinds of careers! Regardless of our jobs, what most BASE jumpers really DO is: LIVE our lives to the greatest extent, the best we can! Actively work to pursue and overcome our greatest fears! Ignore people who tell us, "You can't do ________"! Appreciate the natural beauty of the earth! Support CHANGE instead of hiding from it. Trust in the power of BELIEF Know that just as much as everything matters, to the same extent NO-THING matters!

Neither is your outwardly apparent and extremely intense or deeply rooted LAZINESS! Get off your lazy arse and do some research! Read 100,000 posts here and Blinc and then start asking your questions. If you sound like you might have even a little bit of intelligence when you ask them, maybe you'll have better luck than the method you're trying now which seems like it's: "Hi I'm an inherently lazy buffoon who wants to know what gear to get so I go burn your objects by assimilating my self towards exemplified Darwinian evolution". I'm not against removing yourself from the gene pool, but there are better ways of doing it than messing up our sport with your death and dismemberment.

Hey Russel, Keep your smile on! Even though you feel a little low sometimes, you're an inspiration to us all - a piece of human spirit so rich we can taste it. If more people went for their dreams with such gusto, the world would be a much different place - BASE jumping might even be normal! If they won't give you the drugs because they think you can't feel it - just tell them when phantom pain mixes with boredom it hurts worse than they can imagine!

I like the functionallity of the forums here, but I have a problem - I can never see the polls at the top of the posts with polls in them. Is there something I've done wrong, or anyone else with this problem? Thanks, sum1

It's not near useless - but it's not too friendly either. I've been around much of the country and found several possible objects but most are pretty challenging and remote. What I found was the buildings in SJ (anyone know what a bust means here?), a really-low-but-doable-for-some stack near Tilaran, a couple of low waterfalls with super sketch landings, and one low cliff with no landings at all... Take your surf board instead of your rig and be sure to spend some time in the jungle!

I one time measured up all of my pc's 2 inches shy as well, the manufacturers measure the top skin stretched tight, which somehow - amazingly - adds two inches. Try that and see what you get.

Ha! I was going 130 on I80 going to twinn one weekend when I saw a state trooper gaining on me fast. Same feeling - like I was going to jail already, but much to my chagrin and satisfaction - that cop just hauled on past me - he must've been going 150. The lesson I learned, speed as fast as you want as long as you're not the fastest.

Not very crazy, but I will always remember this: One time I had packed slider off then had to unpack... then repack with the slider, then unpack, then repack without slider, then unpack then repack with the slider, then unpack, then repack without slider, then unpack then then repack with the slider, then unpack, then repack without slider, then unpack then repack with the slider, then unpack, then repack without slider, then unpack then repack with the slider, then unpack, then repack without slider, then unpack then repack with the slider, then unpack, then repack without slider, then unpack then repack with the slider, then unpack, then repack without slider, then unpack then repack with the slider, then unpack, then repack without slider... ...and then... ...after 17 packjobs... ...I finally got mother nature's cooperation and made a jump! I did get some damn good "packing memory" in that parachute, and after that I had pleanty of motivation to get to the plasma center twice a week to save for a second rig!!!

You'd honestly want to base jump a canopy that has it's reputation centered around soft openings/long snivels? Even hypothetically, it is a bad idea. Really bad! It's a good thing you were smart enough to ask first before trying it out off your local exit point!
-
You also should take into account that had you jumped straight out (like you would off an E) that the distance between you and the wall will be at least 10 feet more than it was from your floater exit where you just dropped straight off. The other thing you're missing is the line twist that will be there, even if it's just a 1/2 twist, it can mess with your hand's reactions a little bit. To really practice having a 180 - I'd have your buddy turn your packjob over some night when you're not around or after you've had too much to drink. That way, you'll not be expecting it, you'll jump just like you would from an E, and you'll have at least 1/2 of a twist in your risers. This is sort of like when my shooting coach would load a dud in my clip, to see if I was bucking.

I hate to beat a dead horse about the cammo situation... but here it goes: Assuming people in my area don't normally walk around wearing cammo, I understand the risk of being confronted while wearing full NAT-Gear and cammo'd rig... however, I am the sort of person who isn't too keen on being confronted! The only way I'm going to be seen wearing anything, is if I'm seen in the first place! There are some objects were cammo will make you stand out, and others where it's your only hope of NOT BEING SEEN. In my opinion, the objects where you have to army crawl in full cammo for several hundered yards, amongst guards and high security, are far more entertaining than those where you just mingle with the general public or hope your display goes undetected. All I am saying is that cammo has it's place in BASE jumping!

You don't think you're "educating" the "enemy" by writing this? Remember: Since the video won't disclose the locations jumped in Colorado, I guess it's good the B team is dropping everyone all these hints! Jeez, before this post I thought there were no active jumpers in Denver! Well, at least they won't be calling me when something gets jumped. It's not too hard to find the real ID's of the "B-Team" if you're savy with the internet. What does that stand for anyway? Busted? Where did the photoshop image go? Anyone who has it will you PM it to me?

I don't imagine anyone will be out to see - are you going to go for B-O or BB?

Sounds like fun to me, I should have been a T crane operator.

Of course we all know now, that a PC can hesitate even when it was hand held. http://www.blackopselite.com/skydive/late-open.WMV

That's funny, wouldn't you need a C2 DVD to come up with the answer?

I have made lots of skydives on a base canopy (266sq.' dagger) using a mesh slider and 32" PC... Although several of these were short freefalls, I've got at least 30 terminal deployments, one time out of a track. While I wouldn't want to make more than 5 or so of these a day, I did not notice the opening shock being too hard to handle. For two of the terminal jumps I free-packed my dagger in a J4 container using the tailpocket - those were pretty brisk but didn't hurt me. I'd recommend if you're making many skydives on it, getting a skydiving D-bag made to fit your system. mattsplat's recommendation of using a PCA to ease opening shock of a slider down jump from a plane is just ridiculous, even if it's out of a puny & slow plane! While it may work, there's really no purpose to risk the chance of getting hurt by the opening. Rig/reef the canopy just like you would for any skydiving terminal jump and you should be okay. edited to add not subtract

I don't know about everyone else that saw the premier at the Gorge, but I think it rocked... loved every minute of it! I thought the video really related with how fun, dramatic, and liberating our sport is - but at the same time how dangerous and punishing it is. Hank's prison photo was awesome too, how did you guys get that shit?
