Ugh, i rented that last week and thought it sucked ass. You actually made it to the end...that was pure friggin' torture that I could not stand to subject myself to for longer than an hour. I'm intrigued with the emphatic negative feedback for this film. Why was it so awful? (I haven't seen it, yet.)

It was sad to me that Spacey's character hated his life and wife so much. Also, his needs were more important to him that making his own daughter feel valuable. He lived in his daydreams...but I firmly believe that your life is what you make it. The main reason that Spacey disgusted me was because I was a teenaged cheerleader once, and I remember being looked at like that (blatantly ogled) by most men (many older)...sooooo many times. I didn't totally understand my sexuality back then, but I knew that they thought I was attractive or whatever. After seeing this film, it kind of struck me that some of those looks (it's in the eyes) that I used to get were pretty lustful. I was only 15 or so, and when I saw the film in my mid-20's, I had to face that this was what some men think when they look at young girls.

If skydiving didn't exist. . . .what sport would you do?
VanillaSkyGirl replied to Bigwallmaster's topic in The Bonfire
I would definitely rock climb, which I used to do. I was a natural climber, very graceful and stronger than I would have thought. I would also scuba dive more, which I have done a bit (but not enough...would love to do more). I am interested in pursuing Wind Surfing, which I have yet to do. I am also considering caving at some point, but I don't know if that's considered that's a true "sport". Fire dancing also calls to me...gosh, so many things to try and such little time. -
I don't find any movie that moves me impressive. American Beauty was a great film, though. My own personal feelings of disgust should not take away from my observations that it is a well-made film.

Yes, they have it.

WOW~ I have to rent that. It's good to remind oneself that we are so tiny and the universe (and all in it) so vast. It seems like a very humbling film. The title Barakais a Sufi word...I know very little about Sufism. I read about The Whirling Dirvishes back in '97, and I went to see them at UCLA. I found it fascinating, although this may not be true or authentic to Sufism, since we were able to watch them on stage. Thank you for the suggestion, Linny.

Requiem for a Dream is one of the best movies that I have ever seen with some of the best acting that I have ever seen, but it's definitely very dark. I saw American Beauty in the theatre. While I agree that it was very good and deserved all the awards that it received, I felt extreme disgust at Spacey's character, as well as the others...so much that it took away from my enjoyment of the film. That alone proves that the film was incredible.

Yes, I meant to see it when it first came out in the theatres. I've always loved British humor. I used to regularly watch the show The Young Ones when I was a teenager and loved movies such as Trainspotting, The Full Monty, etc. Chaoskitty ~ Eddie izzard...have heard/read a lot about him over the years, but never have seen a show. I will try to rent Dressed to Kill! Remi ~ Sometimes, dark is GOOD...the darker the movie, the better. Are you surprised to hear that from me?

LOVED that film!!! I'd like a new film.

Dave, I've seen both of those films by Joel Coen. While I loved O brother, Where Art Thou, Tom Hanks (and the movie, in general) did annoy me in The Ladykillers. Boondock Saints seems a little much for me right now...I'm not feeling it today. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is one that I never got the chance to see, so I will check it out. Thanks Dave! Remi, they have all three of those films. Les invasion barbares and Jesus de Montreal sound wonderful. Thank you. DShiznit, I am NOT called VanillaSkygirl because of the movie Vanilla Sky , but I enjoyed watching that film once, as well as, it's predecessor Abre Los Ojos. Great concept, imo... DanDruff, Run Lola Run is exactly the type of film that I would watch. I remember wanting to watch it many times before, but I have yet to see it. Thank you so much for the recommendation!

I'm in a good mood, so my answer is "yes".

Blockbuster is doing a promotional monthly movie pass deal for only $14.99 for the first month for unlimited DVDs. (This is $10.00 cheaper than usual.) I only have about a week left and can only take two DVDs/videos at a time. I don't like action films, nor films that are very commercialized without substance. I am interested in any subject film in any language, as long as it's a well-made film or as long as the film has some redeeming qualities. What movies do you recommend?
