  1. I was thinking "fuck this". It was exit altitude 2000 feet. Round parachutes in a front and back system, no AAD, and my feet stuck out of the door the whole way up with ice forming on them. The jumpmaster didn't ask if I was ready, he just yelled for me to get in the door and go. Canopy control consisted of toggles that did little more than change the view. Student direction was a guy standing in a field yelling up at me with a megaphone. Couldn't hear a damn thing. The landing was me lawndarting into a field full of pigshit. Ahh, happy days.
  2. What do you think animal control will do? Here in good ol' liberal Berkeley, you can specify that they go to a no kill shelter. When I trap raccoons in my yard, they are handled by a no kill animal control system. No reason to kill them if I don't have to. They drive 'em off to the local park area and release them. Also, if anyone laid a hand on my cat, who's been my constant companion for 11 years now, they wouldn't have the wherewithall to do it a second time.
  3. He was saved by the fact that it looks like a Piper J3 cub there that hit him. That plane has a really slow approach speed and fabric wings. He was also lucky that the wing hit him square between two wooden slats, so he only got nailed by a taught piece of canvas that split and absorbed some impact. If it had been a Cessna with a matel wing, it would have knocked his head off. As you can see though, he didn't exactly get up and romp away. I bet it left a mark.
  4. Of course, she's saving the good instructors for later in her progression Well done there. it's not like I haven't been badgering you for years to jump is it ? You have at least 7 more levels to go. You won't be able to avoid me forever you know.
  5. They're a fucking nuisance. They rip off the cat door and come into the house and trash the kitchen. They are unbelieveable filthy, flea infested and vicious and won't hestitate to go for you if you try to get them out of the house. I have a humane trap for them. I've caught over 50 iof them in my back yard in the last few years, and I give them a nice drive to a more expensive area with better garbage.
  6. I shall be there of course, to spread joy and happiness amongst you all.
  7. I never had that problem. My parents bought me my first jump as a birthday present. They used to come to th DZ to watch every chance they could.
  8. We're talking about removing it as a competition event, not banning it from the sport. If people want to skysurf, they'll still do it, but to use the Nationals as argument that it serves to promote the discipline is clearly not correct, as nobody is showing up to compete. I'd go along with it's removal for now, and see where the sport goes with it. If it's really going to be a credible competition disciplne, then what Douva suggest has got to happen. That is, it has to be built up from the grass roots again, with coaches, seminars, and new neophpytes who will bring a new perspective and flavor to it. If that happens, then it might just become popular enough to qualify as a competetive event again. I travel all over the country and world organizing, and in the last 5 years, I have seen one skysurfer in a plane with me. It's dying as a discipline right now, and the the lack of competitors at the Nationals is a symptom of that, not it's cause. By all means, get the BOD to keep it in if you can, but what's left of the skysurf community better field a full ticket at the next Nationals or no amount of emailing will save it after that.
  9. If the international symbol for drunk is you standing in my cat's dish, slumped against the fridge and waving a .45, then yes.
  10. My neigbors are even more wary of me for some reason now. As for the Knucklehead, I've started riding it. Talk about total concentration on the thing. Everything's in the wrong place, but once you get going, it's a blast. Once I get it tagged correctly by the CHP, which in itself takes forever, I'll ride it to Byron. I don't want to take in on a freeway uintil it;s got enough miles under it's belt to bed in nicely. That's what town driving and lots of gear changes are for.
  11. I just called. 25 gusting to 30 again. Sigh. It's just that time of year I guess.
  12. I've had sex using a phone. Does that count ?
  13. I just called the dropzone. Winds 31 gusting 40. Jesus H Christ in a fucking sidecar, I love Byron . Plan B. Ride Knucklehead, then drink vodka.
  14. Eraserhead. None weirder. One of my favorite moveis of all time.

    Poker?

I can;t play. I use a G5 iMac and I'm damned if if I'm loading Virtual PC to play there.
  17. That's amazing. The guy was just seen a s a bum to give Tyson an easy win to keep the big purses coming. He got $275K to Tyson's 5 million. Tyson's done. And not before time.
  18. Hell, it ain't much better in NorCal. When it hasn't been raining, it's been windy. The only weekend it wasn't windy, the drop zone caught fire. I'm nearly 200 jumps short of my total for this time last year. Other that that, it's been great.
  19. Funny you should jump in on this thread for your first outing, becuase the person in the link reminded me of you.
